Find me something lovely to do in lanzarote

It's another " improve my holiday" post sorry and I know I'm lucky to be away but I'm in lanzarote and bored of AI. My boys are loving it so I can cope fine as the entertainment staff are great with the kids and of course I can drink all the drinks but I'm bored. We attempted bus to arrecife but it was a dump. Perhaps heading to Ranchero Texas for change of scene tomorrow. Would like to do volcano trip but can't face the hard sell at the trips / experience kiosk. Got a teen and a pre teen. I think a paid excursion might be good compromise if I can book one without losing my sanity and paying £200. My friend is in France and I'm so jealous. We came for a change as kids said gites were boring. I'm checking my privilege don't worry. I'm asking for travel / to do tips so no "you're lucky to be away " please. I know im lucky. Plus I miss the dog which is my own issue.

There’s lots to do. We spent a week there a couple of years ago and visited:

The national park.
Jameos del Agra.
Cactus Garden.
Cesar Manrique Foundation.
Museo Lagomar.
Mirador del Rio
El Golfo.

APurpleSquirrel · 15/08/2023 17:29

Thank you. I'll get Googling these. Youngest loves succulents and cacti so that's a good suggestion.

Where are you based? From puerto del Carmen you can walk along the coast to Caleta which is a lovely spot, have a drink and get the water taxi back. Walk the other way from puerto del Carmen to where the airport is and it’s so much fun watching the planes land. They feel like they are almost touching your head! My kids loved it. Cactus garden good fun and nice gift shop, mirador del Rio is lovely, rancho Texas great and then up at the very top of the island are some rocky coves that are crystal clear and very quiet. Also beaches at playa Blanca good too. Have a great time!

TeaandHobnobs · 15/08/2023 17:41

I really enjoyed Jameos del agua - not only is it beautiful and impressive, I really enjoyed the museum at the end (but I am a big geology nerd).
If you hire a car, then Charco de los clicos at El Golfo is worth a look.
We took the ferry over to Fuerteventura for the day (on foot) just for something different to do - sadly, Corralejo is a bit of a dump, but the beaches are beautiful. You can do a boat trip out to Lobos which looked cool.

PearlRuby · 15/08/2023 17:42

Also from los pocillos which is at the bottom end of puerto del Carmen you can hire go karts and ride all the way along the super wide car free promenade. My kids are 10 and 12 and loved that

Lanzagrottyhelp · 15/08/2023 17:42

Ooh this is all looking more up my street and also a bit of a nerd so loving the idea of a trip plus museum ! Thank you. Will get a wine ordered and have a read

If you have a car Cezar Manrique house then old town Teguise for lunch or a drink at La Cantina (not on market day!). Arrieta is a pretty little fishing village with a nice beach and casual but good places to eat. Arrecife the nicest place is the marina but you need to find it. Playa Blanca. Buses in Lanzarote usually pretty good and cheap if no car but sometimes need to change in Arrecife. Walk from harbour at Puerto del Carmen to Puerto Calero to watch the yachts and have a nice lunch.

HalfasleepChrisintheMorning · 15/08/2023 17:48

Hire a car.
Do the volcano yourselves and then drive down to the coast for a beachside lunch
Jameos del Agua
Cesar Manrique house

jolies1 · 15/08/2023 17:48

Costa Teguise good for swimming or water sports if kids are adventurous - windsurf lessons etc

BarbaraofSeville · 15/08/2023 17:51

Go and snorkel over the sculptures in the sea off Playa Blanca or see them in a glass bottom boat.

If you have a hire car, use that to go to the volcano.

There's some caves up on the north east coast that are pretty spectacular.

APurpleSquirrel · 15/08/2023 17:52

We did the Texas Rachero - was a good day, especially the waterpark.
Santa Barbara Castle
Jameos del Agua
Had a lovely meal at La Gamba loca2 in Orzola; & at La Bodega de Santiago in Yaiza.

I've seen family cycle things - is that what you mean or more tradition go kart type things? This sounds ace

There's also an aviation museum at the airport but I think the opening hours are quite short. History of tourism to the Canaries and arrival on terrifying turbo props is the theme I believe.

christmassausages · 15/08/2023 17:53

Cicar is good for car hire in Lanzarote. Good rates and have always been really nice when we've hired from them.

Mannilea · 15/08/2023 17:59

we thought the submarine was a good trip my children are younger so not sure if it would appeal

not sure what it was called but there was a dirt buggy drive the children wouldn’t be able to drive as you need a licence and I’m not sure what the age limit is we was 2 adults doing it but that was good go up the mountains a little bit

we didn’t do it but there is also a trip up the mountains and you can have a bbq dinner over the volcano

at ranch Texas you can also swim with sea lions which was such a good experience but that is gonna be dearer than most things

There is a shop near the seaside los jameos hotel that rents just go karts by the hour. Adult sized and kids!

Lanzagrottyhelp · 15/08/2023 18:53

@PearlRuby we are near there! Will definitely do that. Thank you 😊

You can walk to Puerto Calero from Puerto del Carmen and get the water taxi back.

Hire a car and go to Playa Quemada for authentic fish restaurant right on the sea.

Drive to the other side of the island to Famara beach - really big and open with lots of surfers .

Take a trip to Marina Rubicon at Playa Blanca - lots of lovely shops and restaurants and a nice cliff top walk.

Lanzarote is a lovely island we have been many, many times and before the brexit rules came in had planned to buy an apartment there, but now we just rent.

If your teens get on well together you might find in future a villa with a private pool is a better option. At AI you could be anywhere in europe, but if you have a villa and a car, you have the freedom to explore and try different restaurants etc.

Car is the way I think. I don't like being in the same place but can see that it is a beautiful island with more than just this.

You can take a trip to La Graciosa, a beautiful quiet island.

The Rubicon Marina has a fantastic market every Wednesday and Saturday that’s worth a visit and Arabella’s make the most amazing cocktails and delicious food.

There are so many stunning and quiet beaches along the coastline which are so much better than the more popular, touristy ones.

Persiana · 15/08/2023 19:08

Yes get a car! We went years ago with people who only ever sat on the beach. We hired a car and went all over, all the lovely and interesting places mentioned on here already. It's actually really interesting and.beautiful if you get out of resorts. Enjoy!
