Find me something lovely to do in lanzarote

It's another " improve my holiday" post sorry and I know I'm lucky to be away but I'm in lanzarote and bored of AI. My boys are loving it so I can cope fine as the entertainment staff are great with the kids and of course I can drink all the drinks but I'm bored. We attempted bus to arrecife but it was a dump. Perhaps heading to Ranchero Texas for change of scene tomorrow. Would like to do volcano trip but can't face the hard sell at the trips / experience kiosk. Got a teen and a pre teen. I think a paid excursion might be good compromise if I can book one without losing my sanity and paying £200. My friend is in France and I'm so jealous. We came for a change as kids said gites were boring. I'm checking my privilege don't worry. I'm asking for travel / to do tips so no "you're lucky to be away " please. I know im lucky. Plus I miss the dog which is my own issue.

The Cesar Manrique Foundation and Jameos del Agra are both amazing. And the volcano trip is really worth it.

Blueuggboots · 15/08/2023 19:15

We took a drive into the mountains which was ok, as was the volcano trip, but other than that, I hated it!! I wouldn't go back.

MaryLivingOnDreamsAndCustardCreams · 15/08/2023 19:18

Jameos del agua love, love, love 😍

Lanzagrottyhelp · 15/08/2023 19:18

Which beach is the most beautiful if you had to choose? I saw one in a random blog and forgot to write it down but it was white sand and crystal clear water. Maybe lobos? Thank you all so much for understanding what I was asking. I want to see more than the AI buffet (delicious though it is tbf ) and this little place

Outdoor cinema on the rooftop of the biosphere shopping centre in PDC.

Market at Puerto Calero

Rancho Texas

Jameos del Agua

Windsurfing north of the island

2 Go-kart tracks

Waterpark in Costa Teguise

Volcano is worth a visit

Ride the camels in the national park.

Retsina · 15/08/2023 19:20

There are submarine trips from Puerto Calero - google Submarine Safari.

CurlewKate · 15/08/2023 19:23

@Lanzagrottyhelp incidentally, that's a pretty unpleasant user name......

PagingMrTomMorrow · 15/08/2023 19:27

@Lanzagrottyhelp we went to Playa Mujeres. It was absolutely stunning and so quiet.

Pissedoffandcovidy · 15/08/2023 19:28

National Park and the volcanic landscape is something you don’t get everywhere so I would definitely make sure you do that.

S0upertrooper · 15/08/2023 19:29

If you have a car, drive up the coast to Punta Majures to swim in the natural sea pools and eat seafood in the local restaurant.

There's a rooftop, open air cinema in the Biosphere centre in Puerto del Carmen. You sit on beanbags and have Bluetooth headphones.

The best beach in my opinion is a beautiful unspoiled lagoon called Playa Caleton. It's not very well known.

Also Playa Poscillos & Playa Matagorda for families down Puerto del Carmen end are lovely big beaches ; also there are beautiful beaches in the Playa Blanca area nature reserve (eg Pozo) but watch out for naturists! Some car hire places don't like people driving down the unmade stony tracks of the nature reserve but it's worth it so just put your car through a car wash after like we did!

Famera (sp?) is stunning and good for watching daredevil surfers but don't let your kids go in.. several people are killed there a year I've heard.

Also there's a black sandy / rocky fishing beach near a bright green volcanic lake that is quite fascinating, I don't know the name of it.

As the sand is darker on Lanzarotes beaches you will need to wear sliders or your feet will be too hot! Also some of the beaches mentioned don't have shade, toilets or sell drinks.

We did the tour of the Volcano and the winery and El Golfo and salt flats in a full day tour. It was really good. It cost €80 pp, but was well worth it.
Where are you staying as the TUI Rep in our hotel was so good. No hard sell. We rocked up to see what there was to do and this suited us down to the ground. Lunch was included.

I agree. Apologies

If you do decide to do the volcano by yourself in a car, expect a LONG wait to get into the car park (it's really quite small) and coaches get priority about driving around through the park so I would recommend a coach tour here.

Lanzanotsogrottyhelp · 15/08/2023 20:02

Name changed. DH been calling it that since a childhood experience and it stuck. But it's not kind or accurate. Changed

bruffin · 15/08/2023 20:05

If you have a hire car, use that to go to the volcano.

I would do that as a coach trip, the cars have to queue up to get into the car park and are not allowed to drive round the volcanos and you still have to get a coach to see them,
Cueva de los Verdes underground caves are worth visiting

We loved
The Omar Sharif house , lunch really nice beside the pool
The Cesar Manriques house
Jameos del Agua
Mirador del Rio

On Sunday there is huge Market in Teguise but the buses were a bit of bun fight getting back. The town is lovely on other days

LookItsMeAgain · 15/08/2023 20:06

We were just there a few weeks ago. Had a wonderful time.

TwigTheWonderKid · 15/08/2023 22:06

Mount Timanfaya is fab. And literally anything designed by Cesar Manrique. We have loved chartering a motor boat along the coast from Marina Rubicon and a sailing boat (search for Alex Sailing on FB)

MaryMagda · 15/08/2023 22:58

I like a trip over to Fuerteventura, nice and breezy on the boat and a stroll along the sand dunes is lovely.
The market down in Playa Blanca is nice, probably quite hot right now though.
Puerto Calero from Puerto Del Carmen us a lovely cliff top walk.
Papagayo beaches, if you fancy a boat trip and swim.

The South Island tour is also worth doing.

TiredArse · 15/08/2023 23:17

If you do want a tour/trip without the hard sell then you can book direct with https://www.lcteurope.com/

TiredArse · 15/08/2023 23:19

You can also go whale and dolphin watching.

CameraCoffeeCrochet · 15/08/2023 23:56

I used to live there, for beaches I'd pick the pretty little lagoon white sandy ones in Orzola or for decent swimming and quite private -Playa Chica which is the divers beach in the Old Town.
Visit the green caves, there's a volcano museum nearby which is different to Timanfaya national park, really interesting. Lagomar is a funky place. Rancho Texas is definitely worth it, the staff are lovely, good food and they've got a new water slide as well.
There's a guy that does fun tours as well, he's taken my family out on quads before, does kinda bespoke tours, but I can't remember his name!!

There's loads to see if you do a bit of research.

BarbaraofSeville · 16/08/2023 04:59

Second the Playa Chica recommendation, I've dived from there a few times and it's a little cove beach so good for snorkeling, loads of fish including some brightly coloured ones near the rocks.

Lanzanotsogrottyhelp · 16/08/2023 12:43

Currently at rancho Texas and car tomorrow for beach and cave exploring then Friday will probably have a cycle down to the next beach down or drive to the seafood places. Probably very outing now but teen is coeliac and would probably love a seafood feast. I really appreciate all the suggestions thank you.
