Despite not living too far away we've not really explores Northumberland so we've booked a cottage for March next year.

I'm after walks, pubs, activities, anything that can't be missed. Just 2 adults. Thank you 😊

Craster, the Jolly Fisherman, the walk to Dunstanburgh

Seahorses, fish and chips, the walk to Beadnell or Bamburgh

The Potted Lobster in Bamburgh

The Ship Inn at Low Newton

Lindisfarne

Hoppinggreen · 13/08/2023 20:19

I love Alnwick, Seahouses and Craster

Fundays12 · 13/08/2023 20:26

We all liked Amble market when we went recently

bryceQ · 13/08/2023 20:28

Love Warkworth. The castle, the beach, the village and the river

AuntyMabelandPippin · 13/08/2023 20:30

There is nowhere in the world like Bamburgh. Nowhere.

patterpittercake · 13/08/2023 20:31

I agree with the above points.

If you want something a bit different, Chillingham Castle is great.

Go inland to Sycamore Gap and then explore Hexham and Corbridge.

Eat at Hjem if you can afford it.

I personally love the Allan Valley and Blanchland for walking, wild swimming and brilliant pubs but they're both quite far from the coast and the touristy areas (but worth it IMO).

Bamburgh and seahorses are my favourite.
The joiners arms pub in Newton by the sea is lovely, as is the beach there.

fancyfrogs · 13/08/2023 20:34

Seahouses that should say, obviously!

lndnbrdge91 · 13/08/2023 20:48

Alnmouth, generally so lovely especially the estuary and a wander around The Old School Gallery

QueenofLouisiana · 13/08/2023 20:50

I love Blanchland, Kielder Forest and Berwick. Tynemouth is in Tyne and Wear but also lovely.

SpamFrittersYouSay · 13/08/2023 21:11

Wooler. Felt at home there.

motherofawhirlwind · 13/08/2023 21:17

We didn't get Seahouses at all. Couldn't see the attraction... But everyone else raves about it.

All the other places mentioned were great and Cragside was amazing.

DragonflyLady · 13/08/2023 21:26

Amble and Warkworth.

Curlysusie · 13/08/2023 21:27

Alnwick gardens
Embleton beach

It's all great, have a lovely time Smile

AdaColeman · 13/08/2023 21:30

You should definitely take a look at Hadrian's Wall, once the edge of a vast Empire!

PixiePirate · 13/08/2023 21:31

A boat trip around the Farne Islands.
Alnwick Gardens.
Durham (realise not in Northumberland!)
Hadrians Wall walk (Black Carts Turret on B6318, just past Walwick Hall - free.

feellikeanalien · 13/08/2023 21:32

Definitely Corbridge. Also Bamburgh especially if you have lunch at the Potted Lobster followed by a walk along the beach.

We live not too far from Kielder and that's well worth a visit if you like nice walks.

If you're a National Trust or English Heritage Member then I'd recommend Belsay Hall, Wallington and Cragside. The grounds of all of them have lovely walks and the houses are interesting as well.

For something a bit different try Tea on the Train in Bellingham. Afternoon tea on an old railway carriage.

patterpittercake · 13/08/2023 21:33

I've just clocked that you're going in March which changes everything as places like Cragside won't be open.
But much of Northumberland has the dark skies national park so you could stay at Kielder or Wark and book into the observatories. Apparently there are some amazing places you can stay at Kielder where the roof comes off and you can star gaze from your bed.

ranoutofquinoaandprosecco · 13/08/2023 21:34

Just come back from a week there, we love it! Bamburgh is fab. I'd recommend booking any restaurants you definitely want to eat in. Jolly fisherman and potter lobster as suggested. The landing at Beadnell was good for brunch. Joiners Arms at Newton by Sea was really good.
If you want to surf, speak to Sally at Surf Northumberland.
There's a nice little park with a zip line in Embleton.
If you want takeaways the Chinese and Indians in Seahouses are good.
In Bamburgh the butchers and deli next door are fab and very reasonable.

IAmKenough · 13/08/2023 21:39

The Ship Inn at Low Newton by the Sea for lunch after a walk along the beach. Lovely.

maximist · 13/08/2023 21:41

Howick Hall near Alnwick is one of my favourite places up there.

legosunqueen · 13/08/2023 21:41

I adore Alnmouth, Alnwick Castle & gardens are great, also Cragside is definitely worth a visit. It's a beautiful & unspoilt part of the UK.

SuperSange · 13/08/2023 21:41

If the tides are right, Holy Island is worth a visit.
