Enough of the plug-in air fresheners. They're foul a matter of personal taste. Also they make me very suspicious about what you might be trying to hide.

And if all the temperature and function settings have been rubbed off, what am I supposed to do, play oven roulette? Give me a fighting chance and leave me the manual so I can look at a picture of it.

Anything else?

Serving spoon.
Oven glove.

I have given up on sharp knives (take a serrated and chef's knife every time now).

DH packs a knife sharpener whenever we go to an Air BnB for this very reason! The knives are always blunt.

And he also packs spare batteries for the tv remote (you can guarantee they will be dead).

We don’t stay in hotels, because we want a kitchen and dining area. Also there’s 5 of us, so we have to get two hotel rooms so it’s more expensive.

Dymaxion · 12/08/2023 21:39

A tin opener, a corkscrew, one sharp knife, a decent sized wine glass and a decent sized mug please. And for the love of God get a proper sized bin/pay for recycling. I hate having to deposit rubbish around the town in a great escape manner, we don't let it drop from holes in our pockets before anyone has a conniption, we just have to secrete rubbish and put it in bins out and about.

ShinyBandana · 12/08/2023 21:41

Please…. Some shelves in the bathroom, coat hooks in every room, mirrors near a light source and 2 keys not just 1

BunnyBetChetwynnd · 12/08/2023 21:43

Mirror near a socket for the hairdryer.

Kindofcrunchy · 12/08/2023 21:48

Curtains in the bedrooms that actually block out light please. I'm fed up of having to hang blankets up to darken the room, usually over the top of some sort of decorative gauze artfully hung across the window and squinting into the sun while I try to have a lie in!!

Also, wash linens in detergent that doesn't smell eye-wateringly strong.

Redglitter · 12/08/2023 21:53

If not a bedside table then at least a wee shelf for your phone, kindle etc & a wall lamp at the bed

Threegreenbirds · 12/08/2023 21:56

I always stay in Airbnb and have never had a list of instructions to clean when we leave. They have always been very true to the description and have most things we need. The hosts are always super keen to please. But then I always read the reviews first and choose accordingly. That's the beauty of Airbnb.

What I would say though, not all leave a small welcome pack of milk, tea and coffee. The basics are an absolute must!

If you don't like it, try a hotel; there's plenty around. Is this really a thread topic fgs.

🤣 you're going to be in for a bit of a shock if you're new to the site! You realise people will discuss literally anything and everything on here?

HorsePlatitudes · 12/08/2023 21:57

Don’t charge people £1500 to stay in yoir Dublin shithole:, piles of crumbs in the cutlery drawer, no mugs or toaster, grotty grouting and your undies spiking from every drawer. ALSO persistent smell of cat piss/food.

But being British we left a nice review 🙄

We’ve just stayed in a lovely Air BnB which had absolutely everything you could possibly need. I think that’s because it used to be a family home so still had that ‘lived in’ feel, which I don’t mind because it was still very nice. We cooked a couple of meals and it was great.

In contrast we have also just stayed in a private rented holiday apartment - not through Air BnB - and I missed some of those useful things e.g. no iron or ironing board, no cleaning products, no Tupperware for leftovers!

Ninacampbelltiled · 12/08/2023 22:01

Can I ask if people like to be greeted when they arrive or just left to put a keypad number in and let themselves in? Yes I should start a thread! Although tbf this is a naturally flowing conversation on here from both guests and hosts alike.

SheilaFentiman · 12/08/2023 22:03

Main thing is for a host to get a trusted friend to stay there for them for a few days. So they can feedback on whether they can work the washing machine or find the pans!

personally prefer the keypad as it gives more flex if traffic is bad etc

Dear Airbnb guest please stop changing the furniture around. I mean who even does that? Except the frigging people I have just cleaned after!

I don’t know what the move was, but you can understand why people might want the furniture in the best place for them eg chairs near the tv if they are hard of hearing etc?

Yes! And all hotel owners please take note too.
Oh and a mirror that doesn't face the window. I need the light on my face not the shadow.

My preference would be a keypad so I don't need to worry what time I arrive.

Agree with the keypad! It's nice to see the host at some point in the first day or two, although I understand some would prefer to be left alone 🤣

Have decent check in and out times. For one place I stayed in if it had only been for one night (it does happen) you would have only had 19 hours in the space!

Well, yes, that’s the way with all accommodation, hotels etc too. So that there is time to clean before the next guess. 11am is usually the latest checkout and 2 or 3pm the earliest check in.

Namddf · 12/08/2023 22:15

Decent curtains that block out the light NOT Venetian blinds

Sugar - no one wants to buy a big bag of sugar for a couple of cups of tea

A TV that works (I’ve stayed in numerous Airbnbs and I don’t think I’ve ever had one where the tv works!)

1ittlegreen · 12/08/2023 22:16

Fake flowers and dusty plastic plants, please ditch them. Would rather nothing than that utter shite.

ElizaWinter · 12/08/2023 22:17

Late check out 🙏

Wheredidtheselotapego · 12/08/2023 22:18

Upholstered dining chairs are also totally impractical in an Airbnb

Pearbear · 12/08/2023 22:20

Don’t let out your own home with the fridge full of food, wardrobes full of clothes, personal items everywhere. Arrange for parcels to be delivered when you’re not living there and then pop back to your property to pick up the parcel, disturbing guests who have paid to stay there.

TheFifthTellytubby · 12/08/2023 22:20

If you're providing an cooker and a casserole dish and/or baking trays, please could you also supply an oven glove?
