Enough of the plug-in air fresheners. They're foul a matter of personal taste. Also they make me very suspicious about what you might be trying to hide.

And if all the temperature and function settings have been rubbed off, what am I supposed to do, play oven roulette? Give me a fighting chance and leave me the manual so I can look at a picture of it.

Anything else?

The only complaints we ever seem to have with Airbnb (we use them a lot) is there is hardly ever any kind of shelf/storage in the shower so have to put the shampoo, conditioner, shower gel on the shower base which is annoying. Also they rarely have proper bath towels/sheets and using silly little towels after a shower is also annoying.

Oh and a hook on the bathroom door for a dressing gown would be useful

comeondover · 12/08/2023 20:37

Oh yes, and if you leave not a single square of loo roll, I will be very displeased.

Oh yes, and another. This is cathartic! Don't half-close the blinds for the listing photos, so you can't see it's a basement, and don't use fancy lighting to suggest the place is wonderfully light, when it never could be even at the height of summer.

I run an Airbnb and love to hear what people would like in the accommodation.

I never ask anyone to lift a finger, no laminate sheets of rules anywhere. I do all the washing up, bed stripping and bin emptying etc. Never use plug ins!

How do people feel about towels that haven't been tumble dried? I object to their use on environmental grounds but the towels are always beautifully washed and aired, dried properly. Hope people understand?

comeondover · 12/08/2023 20:52

@Ninacampbelltiled that wouldn't bother me at all. It wouldn't occur to me to expect otherwise.

I've always hated scented products in the home. I've always believed that if a place is clean and well aired, there is no reason for scented products. However, we were away for several months during winter a few years ago and didn't have any central heating kicking in (even minimum temp of like 18 degrees at any time). When we returned the house smelled really musty. That was at least five years ago (we live abroad for months at a time), To this day the house smells musty when we walk in and I don't know how to fix it. Any tips would be gratefully received. I have some reed diffusers dotted about.

Ah the musty smell …. I wonder what it is ? …. My mum always said half an onion would absorb the smell … or a lemon … at least you’d smell of something else. When we moved into this house we renovated and part of that was removing the plaster in the bedroom .. the strange smell in there went into the skip along with the plaster. We had no idea that would happen. Bit drastic though.

If you don't like it, try a hotel; there's plenty around. Is this really a thread topic fgs.

comeondover · 12/08/2023 21:12

I'm in one right now. There's no tray. I want a tray, instructions for the TV (no amount of pressing buttons on the two remotes is getting me anywhere) and an apron to stop me wrecking my clothes when spilling my food down my front like a baby cooking.

@prawncrackers30plus I was thinking that airbnb hosts should have the right to reply. Maybe one could start a new thread. @Ninacampbelltiled ?

Dear Airbnb guest please stop changing the furniture around. I mean who even does that? Except the frigging people I have just cleaned after!

Redglitter · 12/08/2023 21:16

I stayed in a beautifully renovated property last year. It was stunning. One of my friends happened to read the handbook they'd left. One of the rules was 'No food or drink to be consumed in the living room'

Considering the accommodation consisted of said living room, a kitchen with an island with bar stools & outdoor furniture, there wasn't a snowballs chance in hell we were sticking to that rule.

That's be me trying to create a pen for the scatter cushions.

Ozgirl75 · 12/08/2023 21:20

Ive stayed in Airbnb worldwide over the past 4 years or so, and in none of them have I ever had any list of instructions or requirements at all.
I wouldn’t take any notice if there were, to be fair, but there never has been. The only one that came close was one where there was a request to use coaster, but many coasters were provided so it wasnt unreasonable.

Off to another one in Scotland in a couple of weeks, our 6th this year!

ThereIsOnlyOne · 12/08/2023 21:22

Serving spoon.
Oven glove.

I have given up on sharp knives (take a serrated and chef's knife every time now).

Sorry, couldn't resist.

There aren't any hotels where I need to be. Besides, I need a kitchen for a stay longer than a couple of nights.

Oh yes, a serving spoon please. Trying to serve dinner using a dessert spoon!

thebluehen · 12/08/2023 21:35

I'm in one now.

No soap anywhere!

Someone else's leftover tea bags. No coffee, no milk.

I really just consider tea and coffee to be a necessity along with soap at the very least, in the bathroom.

Milk in the fridge, travel sized toiletries are nice to haves. Nothing worse than arriving somewhere after hours of travelling and you can't wash your hands or have a hot drink.

100% agree! Many of them (along with Lynx and some aftershaves) trigger a migraine for me. It's awful if I turn up and they are there!

CaptainSeven · 12/08/2023 21:36

Have decent check in and out times. For one place I stayed in if it had only been for one night (it does happen) you would have only had 19 hours in the space!

thinkkook · 12/08/2023 21:38

I'm one right now too.

We arrived at check in time and it hadn't been cleaned. They rushed to sort it but our plans of flopping, exhausted, on the beds were scuppered as they were not changed. Really poor !!

There was also someone in the allocated parking which meant we had to park elsewhere so really needed that bed!

orangelotus · 12/08/2023 21:38

keep these coming!! i've got a rental place it is on air b and b but we've never had a booking vis them. we are with a local letting agent who is far cheaper than air b and b as no service/ cleaning fee added on.
on the whole people have been great.
but there's been a few weird things . people who have taken all the cleaning stuff i leave . Taken all the towels and bedclothes!!!
I have just replaced stuff as I feel so fortunate to have the place.
but reading about things like sharp knives etc has made me thin i need to do a strict inventory and make sure everything is up to scratch

Wheredidtheselotapego · 12/08/2023 21:38

Agree on the scatter cushions / throws on beds, they’re gross and nowhere to put them.

mine is don’t advertise your cottage as child friendly when all the furniture is glass topped and the living room includes a totally pointless swivel armchair.

And no-one needs 12 champagne flutes / martini glasses / shot glasses but no tumblers.
