Stupid ibuprofen question

nomdegrrr1 · 10/08/2023 21:14

I've started itching all over after taking ibuprofen. Is it serious?

I'm not safe to drive, and I've no-one that I can ask here. I have a sixteen year old son and a husband who doesn't react well to illness

Do you have any other symptoms?

Cyclistmumgrandma · 10/08/2023 21:18

Possibly. Ring 111.

Do you have any other symptoms?

My stomach feels screwed but it always feels screwed.

I have what I think is an abscess in my tooth and a serious hysterical fear of dentists. I have a bit of a sore throat but that could be the abscess

I'm very dissassociated from my body. I am seventy shades of fucked up

Last time I did that it was sort of tricky with husband.

What do you mean sort of tricky with your husband?

Grumpyat40 · 10/08/2023 21:20

Personally I'd take an antihistamine and see how I am. If it gets worse then I'd ring 111.

Lucy377 · 10/08/2023 21:21

Take an antihistamine tablet soon as you can.

Also check the information sheet that's inside the box of the Ibuprofen.

You need to think about you and your well-being in situations like this, not your husband.

Have you taken ibuprofen before? I assume probably yes. Have you had itching before? I doubt you have developed a sudden ibuprofen allergy, if so. Probably the itching is due to something else. I would take an antihistamine and go to bed.

If you have never taken it before I would call 111.

If your husband has a problem with you calling 111, then the itchiness seems a bit of a side issue?

I need to think about my son. He's sixteen and supposed to be going to his first gig tomorrow. I can NOT cause an issue for him.

I'll keep an eye on things here.

I've taken ibuprofen before without issue.

However I know that I get intolerances to things that were previously fine. I developed gluten intolerance in my forties. I miss bread.

I hope you are ok
However, once you are please do consider why you are worried about your Hs reaction to you being ill

nomdegrrr1 · 10/08/2023 21:27

I'm really grateful for the help. The itching is irritating me so I think I'll take a shower and get an early night.

Thank you for being here - vipers are awesome.

It could be an allergic reaction, in which case a trip to the emergency room would be ideal, especially if it’s the first time something like this has happened

Additionally, I also had a severe fear of the dentist, but untreated dental issues and infections can lead to heart problems, so please get that checked out asap

Your husband is just going to have to deal with it, and as for your son, it’s lovely you’re so worried for him but you becoming seriously ill would ruin his gig far more than a trip to A&E

Daisy523 · 10/08/2023 21:53

Also, OP, you’re being a bit vague about your husband’s potential issues with you being ill. Are you ok? Is there any resources you might need?

Macaroni46 · 10/08/2023 21:58

This all sounds a bit odd tbh

Theredfoxfliesatmidnight · 10/08/2023 22:00

Honestly, is it that your husband is a "tricky about illness" nasty so and so, or is it that you very frequently have health-related fears about things that turn out to be unfounded, and your family have reached a limit in dealing with it? As it sounds like it might be the latter.

If you genuinely fear that after a lifetime of taking ibuprofen you have suddenly developed a moderate to severe allergy to it, then yes of course you should call 111 for advice.

Clefable · 10/08/2023 22:01

OP, stop worrying about the other people in your household and worry about yourself. Why is it tricky with your husband? Are you in an abusive relationship? Why would you ringing 111 make anything tricky?

The last time I called 111 it was two years ago. I had the symptoms of a heart attack and they sent me to A&E in an ambulance. It turned out to be symptoms of a bad panic attack after an argument.

I had a health scare last year as there was a discharge from my nipple. It was fine.

I don't take many painkillers and as I've had intolerances come on unexpectedly, I wondered. At the moment things are manageable and I'm keeping an eye on things.

I really appreciate the advice and suggestions. I'm very grateful. I come on here because I literally have no-one else to ask.

Thank goodness for the vipers.

GrannyAchingsShepherdsHut · 10/08/2023 22:17

And what was your husband's reaction to those that makes you reluctant to seek medical help now?

Did he overreact and go into a blind panic?

Or piss and moan because he was missing eastenders?

Or threaten you about the paramedics finding his cannabis growing empire?

It's a it worrying you don't even think you can ring 111. Could you ring from the car, wherever it's parked?
