I need 2 pieces of music - one for entering of the coffin and the other for maybe a moment of reflection

Nothing religious
Not modern like Angel Robbie W, etc.
Just simple beautiful music pieces

Any suggestions?

I'd like Louis Armstrong 'What a wonderful world' for people to leave to

The Ashokan Farewell. Just beautiful.

Second this. I had this a both of my parents’ memorials.

Barber’s Adagio for Strings.
The Lark Ascending.
Nimrod.

The Lark Ascending works well for the reflection or the committal, is purely instrumental and non religious. If the deceased had a particular interest in natural history or countryside it could be a good choice.

Also Howard Goodall’s Shackleton’s Cross and Farewell Stromness by Peter Maxwell Davies and The Duchess by Rachel Portman

Another Max Richter piece that’s beautiful is On the Nature of Daylight.

This is so refreshing to read - pop songs at funerals are awful. And a vicar told me once that music without words is much better for the arrival, as the Sentences ("I am the resurrection etc") are spoken over it.
Elgar's Nimrod is the obvious choice.
I don't plan to have a funeral for myself, but if I did I would fancy the theme to Brideshead Revisited (1980s TV version).

Feather Theme from Forrest Gump. It's so beautiful.

If you want something slightly less well known than Nimrod/Barber then these might fit the bill
Handel lascia ch'io pianga (the old Harrods sale music)
Vaughan Williams Fantasia on Greensleeves
Bach Air on a G string
Albinoni Adagio
Purcell Dido's lament

Also, I'm very sorry that you've lost someone (presumably) close to you

greenacrylicpaint · 08/08/2023 19:25

does the deceased have a favourite tv show with a good theme tune?

caramacyears · 08/08/2023 19:26

Schubert String Quintet in C, D.956: II. Adagio is heart wrenchingly lovely

cockeyedoptimist · 08/08/2023 19:30

Dvorjaks 'New World symphony '
played it at my Grandads funeral - it's a beaufiful

I’d pick something lovely that people know - like Eine Kleine Nachtmusik, Peer Gynt or Rachmaninov‘s piano concerto.
