Where to 're-home' Lego?

DS is 17 and has definitely moved on from his Lego 'stage'. We have a couple of unopened boxes of Lego Architecture that will probably sell on Ebay / Facebook.
We also have a large shoebox full of mini-figures and a cardboard box (think microwave delivery box sized) of random Lego you know, the pieces that mainly came from sets where I should have kept the boxes and instructions rather than just tossing it all in together...
Anybody got any idea what I can do with it? I'd especially welcome ideas that involve receiving money for it that could go into DS's college fund, but realise this might be a bit of a vain hope.

EBay. I buy loads of Lego (well, Duplo at the moment) on eBay.

WunWun · 08/08/2023 15:07

Lego keeps its value really well. Just look at eBay or Vinted etc

Chantholtmouse · 08/08/2023 15:12

A primary school would love the box of random Lego.

People buy lego by weight on ebay etc.

KateJohns · 08/08/2023 15:14

Sneak it on to the floors of your enemies in the middle of the night, ring their doorbells, run away.

JellyComb · 08/08/2023 15:15

Weigh it and sell it by the Kilo. Thats what i did. It goes for about £10 a kilo round here on FB Marketplace.

igivein · 08/08/2023 15:16

Thanks @QuiltedBear and @WunWun. Will people just buy random blocks on Ebay / Vinted? I thought they'd just want complete sets.
Would I sell it by weight?
@Chantholtmouse I had thought that if I couldn't sell it, it could possibly find a home at a school or similar

VinEtFromage · 08/08/2023 15:17

Have you got the little instruction guides?

igivein · 08/08/2023 15:18

Wow @JellyComb and @PuttingDownRoots I'm amazed - I'll give it a go.
I like your style @KateJohns !

I've bought some generic bricks and base plates on Facebook marketplace before. Usually buyer collects and no fees.

igivein · 08/08/2023 15:19

@VinEtFromage I might still have some of the guides, but the blocks are just all tossed in together. It would probably take weeks to find the right bits for a booklet.

Or the Lego Facebook page, especially for complete items

cariadlet · 08/08/2023 15:20

I agree with @ChaChantholtmouse - local primary school if you can't sell it.

We have a bit of lego in our Wet Play box but only enough for a few children at a time. We'd be very grateful if anyone gave us some more.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 08/08/2023 15:22

Base boards and any complete sets, sell individually.

Bag up the rest. Maybe try categories (eg a bag of window, door and roof parts / a bag of just the 1xwides) etc. Facebook marketplace.

TheChosenTwo · 08/08/2023 15:22

I donated so much of ours to school. I’ve kept a big box for visiting children or potential grandchildren but no one here plays with it anymore. It was gratefully received, some smaller sets which had boxes and instructions (unopened) which would be achievable over the course of a few afternoon sessions and then about 8 large shoeboxes full random blocks for creative play during wet break or whatever. Was very glad to get rid of it and they were really happy to give it a new home.

Mollyisacat · 08/08/2023 15:22

The unopened sets will probably fetch quite a bit of money now, make sure you do your research to price it accordingly. EBay or Bricklink are good.

The built sets and mini figs, are they in complete sets or just in a pile? You can probably sell the complete sets. Mini figs you should Google to see if any of them are rare.

igivein · 08/08/2023 15:22

Ooh @Fooshufflewickjbannanapants there's a Lego Facebook page? Thanks for this.

Free on fb marketplace to get rid of it if you can’t sell it on eBay first

Do you have any younger dc in the wider family/friends? If so these could make good gifts.

igivein · 08/08/2023 15:24

No @BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz , DS is the youngest by quite some margin.

Thanks - I'm going in!!!!

@igivein make sure it’s all actual Lego if you are selling it as Lego.
If you have other brands mixed in then you need to sell it as “mixed” or remove the other brand parts.
If you have other brands like Mega Bloks then they have a decent secondhand market too. Other brands - the cheapy ones from places like Wilko not so much.

@igivein but that's what I love doing!!! Huge box of mixed bits and some instruction books. I'd happily bag up sets for anyone & then they can sell them at 'set' prices, not Lego weight.

i buy them, when I can, so more than happy to just do it for someone.

CornishTiger · 08/08/2023 15:48

There are various Facebook selling groups and I’ll recommend once you are accepted you use the search facility to gauge pricing. Some mini figures are worth a lot esp if you have any Star Wars.
