Not clean/not dirty clothes solution?

HappyHealthy23 · 03/08/2023 21:20

We've recently moved house. Our new bedroom is quite small, but does have a walk-in wardrobe.
I'm debating dedicating a small shelf in the wardrobe to those clothes that are not actually clean, because you've worn them, but also not dirty enough to go in the washing basket. Things like jogging bottoms, that I only wear around the house.
In our old bedroom, we had the Chair of Doom, but new bedroom is a bit too small to fit any more furniture than is strictly necessary.

Having a shelf in the wardrobe seems slightly mingerish though. Will the non-clean clothes infect the actual clean clothes with their Odour of Worn, even if they have their own shelf? 🤔
Is there a better solution that I'm not thinking of? What do you do?

(Those of you who wash everything immediately after wearing it probably don't need this thread. Leave us Slight Mingers to it. )

It sounds like a great idea!

StillPerplexed · 03/08/2023 21:28

I had a recent dilemma when I realised that stuff was often being draped over the end of the bed. Where it would often fall on the floor. Not ideal. Trying a wicker basket now. Shelf in wardrobe not the worst idea. Quarantine in one of those cloth boxes maybe?

Hibye23289 · 03/08/2023 21:29

Omg I always have this issue!! It makes me bedroom.so messy but I don't want to out them with the clean clothes either

RaceToTheMiddle · 03/08/2023 21:31

If they aren’t dirty/going in the wash. I just put them back where they came from.

Barleymilk · 03/08/2023 21:33

Mine go back in the wardrobe,on hangers.

Peppermint81 · 03/08/2023 21:33

Hang on back of door!!
I don't like putting worn clothes back in wardrobe even though it's prob fine

Swearwolf · 03/08/2023 21:34

Yes, the floordrobe. I've given up trying to stop doing it and bought a chest at the end of the bed to drape stuff on. Would love a walk in wardrobe with a special spot!

LubaLuca · 03/08/2023 21:35

I have some hook things that go on the side of the wardrobe that have plenty of space for several hangers.

Chair of doom.
Hang on back of bathroom door to steam a bit, or the back of the bedroom door.
If you're short of space I wonder if something like the pull-out rails you get in kitchens for tea towels would work?

Mamma136 · 03/08/2023 21:38

I put them in my wardrobe, but separated from the clean clothes. This way they stay visible (rather than forgotten on a shelf) and I am more likely to wear them again and wash them so I can rotate them with fresh clothes.

Jewelanemone · 03/08/2023 21:38

If I've worn a t shirt or jumper one and can get another wear out of it, I fold it differently..... like a mysterious origami code known only to me.

This is genius!

I mean, I know I would never use it because I'm not going to put an old t-shirt and jogging bottoms on a hangar, much as I would like to convince myself to do so.
Bit it is an ingenious solution for people who actually have nice clothes.

How about hooks like coat hooks? You don't have to use hangers then.

LubaLuca · 03/08/2023 21:43

You could use regular cloakroom type pegs for hanging joggers etc on, screwed into the side of your wardrobe or on the back of the door, wherever you might have a gap.

ginghamstarfish · 03/08/2023 21:44

I have a bentwood coatstand in the bedroom for stuff like this.

carmelK · 03/08/2023 21:44

I just put them back where they came from if I want to wear them again! Well... if I can be bothered or they just get thrown on floor, top of a washing basket or on the chair of doom.
But definitely no issue with putting them in the wardrobe

clary · 03/08/2023 21:48

If clothes are clean enough to wear again, I just put them back in the wardrobe. I am thinking a cardi, a dress worn only for a short time, trousers not worn all day. If they were actively smelly then they would go in the wash anyway.

Agree no need to wash everything every day.

Dh leaved his in a huge pile on the chair and it's maddening.

GrannyAchingsShepherdsHut · 03/08/2023 21:50

I was going to say you need A Chair. But I see your dilemma. I mostly use a floordrobe.

I like the hooks / sticky out hangy thing solution.

My granny had a friend who would wear shirts twice (because undershirt, natch) and he did a complicated code of which / how many buttons were done up on the hung up clothes so he could identify it's state of worn ness.

GrannyAchingsShepherdsHut · 03/08/2023 21:52

Or what about something like this, would it fit in the walk in wardrobe if not the bedroom?

Same here, the worn clothes aren’t infectious…

GOODCAT · 03/08/2023 21:59

If you have space under your bed, you can get boxes that roll in and out from under it, so it looks tidy, but that depends on how many clothes you have on the go as to whether it will fit or not. Nothing wrong with using a dedicated shelf though.

YellowJoggers · 03/08/2023 22:03

Hook on back of the door or a valet stand?

Coronationstation · 03/08/2023 22:08

I have hooks on the back of the bedroom
door for dressing gowns and clothes like “house trackies” that can be worn another day. It’s one of those hangers that hooks
over the top of the door with several hooks on it.

AntiHop · 03/08/2023 22:10

Hook on the door, hang them there with hangers
