Not clean/not dirty clothes solution?

HappyHealthy23 · 03/08/2023 21:20

We've recently moved house. Our new bedroom is quite small, but does have a walk-in wardrobe.
I'm debating dedicating a small shelf in the wardrobe to those clothes that are not actually clean, because you've worn them, but also not dirty enough to go in the washing basket. Things like jogging bottoms, that I only wear around the house.
In our old bedroom, we had the Chair of Doom, but new bedroom is a bit too small to fit any more furniture than is strictly necessary.

Having a shelf in the wardrobe seems slightly mingerish though. Will the non-clean clothes infect the actual clean clothes with their Odour of Worn, even if they have their own shelf? 🤔
Is there a better solution that I'm not thinking of? What do you do?

(Those of you who wash everything immediately after wearing it probably don't need this thread. Leave us Slight Mingers to it. )

Ahh I have found my people.

Shelf sounds good, better than the wardrobe floor I use.

I have one of those small bamboo ladders. By day it keeps the dog from snoozing on my side of the bed, by night it's my version of a chair-robe.

RosesAndHellebores · 03/08/2023 22:17

I wouldn’t put anything worn into a cupboard/wardrobe containing anything woollen or silk. Worn clothes attract moths.

I often wear work dresses twice. I put them back in the wardrobe inside out.

Tops on a hanger on the bedroom door
Jeans folded and put on the bottom of my wardrobe

goodnessidontknow · 03/08/2023 22:50

I use a swinging towel rail, it folds flat against the wall when there's nothing on it and it keeps things neat as it doesn't take up too much space.

I hang mine by an open window for 24 hours then back in the wardrobe

RubyWedding · 03/08/2023 23:02

We have a hook on the back of the door and a chair of doom - but I'm quite organised about rewearing within two or three days and then washing, so they don't sit there for weeks.

Pinkitydrinkity · 03/08/2023 23:04

I use a blanket ladder for my “inside clothes”, just hang back up otherwise.

SoggyDoggyWalks · 03/08/2023 23:07

Back in the drawer/wardrobe, but inside out so I remember they’ve been worn. If it is smelly enough to transfer smells to clean stuff then it needs to be washed and goes in the laundry basket.

SuperiorM · 03/08/2023 23:14

I feel most skirts can go back in the wardrobe or drawer, likewise smart jackets. With tops, at this time of year, more than once is unlikely. If they are to be worn again they reside in a little storage cube on our blanket box. Jeans of the week and trs that want more than one wear are on hangars on the back of the door in spare bedroom. The rule is, if haven’t reworn items not put back in wardrobe within 7 days they go in laundry and if I have they are already in the laundry. Your idea sounds workable OP

stardust777 · 03/08/2023 23:19

What about something like this?

towel rail

Meowser72 · 03/08/2023 23:20

As a PP said, worn clothes attract moths. So I wouldn’t put them back in the wardrobe. I also wouldn’t put them straight in the laundry - I’m afraid we have a chair of doom!

StEtienne93 · 03/08/2023 23:29

If they're clean enough to be worn again, then they're clean enough to go back in the wardrobe.

Mossstitch · 03/08/2023 23:29

IKEA wicker basket on top of chest of drawers, but I only wear casual clothes.

CointreauVersial · 03/08/2023 23:37

I've never understood this issue.

If clothes are clean enough to wear again, they go back in the wardrobe/cupboard/drawer. I don't feel I need to single them out in some way, because......they are clean enough to wear again.

Probably 70% of my clothes in my wardrobe have been worn once or twice....if I kept them on a "chair of doom" it would be a nightmare.

Tetchypants · 03/08/2023 23:42

We have a sort of four-poster bed, and it irritates the hell out of me that both of us hang our “wear again” clothes on the posts. It looks awful but not found a better solution so hoping someone gives me inspiration!

SmartHome · 03/08/2023 23:44

I put mine on hooks in en suite. DH puts on chair near his bed. The kids have IKEA.wardrobes with a pull out basket at bootim of wardrobe (though they prefer the floorseobe for 'on the go' clothes).

SwordToFlamethrower · 03/08/2023 23:56

I fold them and put them back

Snoopsnoggysnog · 04/08/2023 00:04

I have a space on the wall near my mirror and I have put a 6 hook thingy there. All the items I can rewear go there - work dresses that are dry clean only, gym kit that didn’t get sweaty, cardigan or hoody that got worn for an afternoon etc. it’s a lifesaver.
we also have an ottoman at the end of the bed where I chuck house clothes that can be worn again. I clear it out once a week or so and fold stuff up and put it back in wardrobe or chest of drawers if it can be reworn.

MaidOfSteel · 04/08/2023 00:10

I just give them a spritz with Febreze and put them back in the wardrobe once they're dry.

Watchthedoormat · 04/08/2023 00:14

Always had a chairdrobe however I've got rid due to lack of space and now have a dedicated drawer I put the worn stuff in although the chest is small so it's not ideal.

Currently musing on whether an under bed drawer may be the perfect solution 🤔

CointreauVersial · 04/08/2023 00:46

But whyyyyy can't you just put your clothes away again? Back in the wardrobe you got them from. Why do they have to be left out?

Mosaic123 · 07/08/2023 14:20

Because you might want to wear them twice and no more. How would you remember if they are just washed or have been worn once or twice already?

uncomfortablydumb53 · 07/08/2023 14:50

You could turn things inside out so you can tell the difference
I turn all my clothes inside out before washing anyway
