What's this pain?

Let me start by saying I am waiting for a call from my GP!! But in the meantime hoping to find ways to relieve the pain.

Sharp upper abdominal pain that started about 6.30 am. Quite severe in the sense that I set off for work and then immediately got the train home again. It's painful and slow to walk.

Not chest, kind of radiating down centrally towards belly button. Constant but also has waves of extra bad.

Hasn't shown signs of easing off yet.

Never had this before so not sure whether to bother with painkillers, leaning forward hunched over feels best, sipping water makes no difference.

Does this sound like gallstone pain?

Anyone had similar?

Have name changed because I will for sure be complaining about this to people I know 😑

It fits my experience of gall stones.

Mischance · 03/08/2023 09:22

My gall stone pain was under my right ribs and through into my back.

Could you be early pregnant? I am sure GP will ask that.

I hope you get a speedy diagnosis and treatment.

BlackJumpsuit · 03/08/2023 09:23

Just looked in the mirror and I am hugely bloated.

Too old to be pregnant!

Pain is all in centre of abdomen

If you’ve got gaviscon or something like that, it’s worth taking those to see if it’s gastric pain. Could be gastritis, what you’ve described very much fits my experience of that. Without wishing to be alarmist, if your GP isn’t going to be calling back very soon I would call 111. Heart pain in women can sometimes be atypical and feel like stomach rather than chest pain, it’s unlikely but you probably need to be evaluated sooner rather than later. I hope you feel better soon.

BlackJumpsuit · 03/08/2023 09:39

Thank you, I had just thought about Gaviscon and have taken some. No instant relief so far.

Hot water bottle did not feel good!

@PineappleMint
Thank you I will be cautious and call 111 if I don't hear from GP

Bumping for more advice and to take my mind off the discomfort!

stbrandonsboat · 03/08/2023 11:03

What did you eat yesterday and last night in particular?

BlackJumpsuit · 03/08/2023 12:06

Nothing unusual. I'm waiting at urgent care now.

I was asked to give a urine sample and it did look a bit dark.

OP posts:
BlackJumpsuit · 03/08/2023 12:06

It's been 5 hours of pain now

Nomorebeer22 · 03/08/2023 12:09

Could be trapped wind. When I get that it's seriously painful. Try drinking a fizzy drink then get on all 4s and wiggle a bit. You will look ridiculous but it often helps shift it.

eandz13 · 03/08/2023 12:12

Was also going to say trapped wind, I get it horrifically in the area you've described. Mine also feels marginally better if I hold myself in certain positions. Maybe try sipping some warm water or peppermint tea if you have any?
Hope it's just something like this OP and you feel better soon.

BlackJumpsuit · 03/08/2023 12:32

Definitely not wind but thank you.

Pain has spread to my back now so that's making me think kidneys? Feeling pretty horrible

OP posts:
PineappleMint · 03/08/2023 12:36

Sorry you’re feeling so grim. Could be pancreatitis or gallstones if it’s radiating to your back, or gastritis, I wouldn’t have thought kidney pain if it’s high central stomach but pain can be weird like that, where it hurts doesn’t always correspond to what it is. Or could still be something straightforward like trapped wind or tummy bug. Hope the urgent care team take good care of you OP. You’re in the right place, I’m sure you’ll have some answers soon.

BlackJumpsuit · 03/08/2023 13:41

Still waiting. Sobbing with pain now.

OP posts:
BlackJumpsuit · 03/08/2023 15:27

Back home, back pain gone but from pain still bad. Nothing conclusive, no fever or urine infection, BP normal. Had a feel of my tummy, ruled out appendicitis and gallbladder, so basically that leaves digestion related 🤷🏻‍♀️
Will see how it goes but if it's the same tomorrow will try and see GP.

BlackJumpsuit · 03/08/2023 18:19

Still in a lot of pain and feeling really rubbish. Abdomen more bloated now.

endofthelinefinally · 03/08/2023 18:22

Gall stones or cholecystitis. I hope you get some treatment soon. It is awful pain. Have you been offered an antispasmodic like buscopan?

BlackJumpsuit · 03/08/2023 18:36

Thanks for the reply.
Dr I saw earlier ruled out gallbladder because it wasn't painful there when he examined me.
Pain has moved a bit lower to behind belly button now but still central.

I took a buscopan but sadly it didn't do anything.

Mischance · 03/08/2023 19:08

Speak to doc tomorrow. Appendicitis does not always follow the rules. Have you a temp? Feeling sick?

CharlotteStreetW1 · 03/08/2023 19:15

I was going to suggest colic which I've had a few times and it's excruciating. I take Buscopan although I'm not convinced it works.

What does at least soothe it though is rubbing your stomach clockwise.

You have my sympathy.

I'll definitely call my GP tomorrow.
I've been reading about appendicitis so I'm alert to the possibility of that.9

OP posts:
BlackJumpsuit · 03/08/2023 19:24

No temp, was feeling slightly sick earlier but ok now. Stomach seems very slow to empty, if I drink water I can feel it sloshing about in there for ages.9

BlackJumpsuit · 03/08/2023 19:28

@CharlotteStreetW1 Thank you, I'm feeling very sorry for myself!
Stomach is too tender to rub sadly, trying to avoid moving or touching it.
