Drowning in unused hair conditioner. What do I do with it?

I started colouring my hair during Covid and every single box comes with a great big tube of conditioner. They are not sealed though and are clearly part of a package. I usually have one tube on the go, for after the colour application, and apart from that I use my usual conditioner. At the moment I have at least 8 tubes lurking in my bathroom cabinet. They take up lots of space I don’t have spare, but I feel it’s a waste to throw them away.

What can I do with the sodding things?

Conditioner is great to use when shaving your legs - makes the razor glide more easily 😊

DustyLee123 · 03/08/2023 08:31

Put them in a food bank.

Ellemeg82 · 03/08/2023 08:31

Give them away (hospitals/refuges/food bank)
Use them as shaving soap to shave your legs.
Use them as a deep conditioning mask.

I'd download the Olio app and put it on there under the non-food section for anyone who wants it to come and collect.

ChardonnaysBeastlyCat · 03/08/2023 08:33

I want to give them away, but I don’t want the food bank to have to deal with them if unsealed tubes are not accepted.

Conditioner is great for cleaning paint brushes, it leaves them really soft.

Igmum · 03/08/2023 08:33

Offer them for free on Freecycle - again, someone will collect from your doorstep

If you have children, make unicorn dough with conditioner and cornflour! theimaginationtree.com/2-ingredient-unicorn-dough/

I have curly hair so I only use conditioner - I use it to both wash and condition. Could you switch to doing that till you’ve run your surplus down?

Nix32 · 03/08/2023 08:34

Have you got small kids? Conditioner and cornflour makes an amazing play dough.

Yes, but then I’ll end up with unused paint!

I’ve always wanted curly hair. Maybe I can get a perm, that will burn through the conditioner.

Just use them instead of your usual conditioner for a few months?

headcheffer · 03/08/2023 08:38

It's a great conditioner, just use it in place of your usual one? I don't get why you can't just use it up? Even use a whole tube as a hair mask once a week.

Blueroses99 · 03/08/2023 08:40

Second Olio app. All sorts of stuff gets snapped up on there. And they collect so no extra work for you.

ChardonnaysBeastlyCat · 03/08/2023 08:41

It doesn’t work for my hair. I agree it’s a good conditioner, but not for me. I use a leave-in one.

Also, I have so much accumulated, I’d need to be a wooly mammoth to use it all up.

But most toiletries (shower gel, normal shampoo and conditioner) aren't sealed and they accept them, presumably.

I have the same problem but this thread has prompted me to just use them as a semi regular deep conditioning treatment. Another thing I've just thought of would be to use them as travel size instead of decanting or buying small ones specially.

MBailey99 · 03/08/2023 08:42

Wait until your current conditioner is empty. Take the lid off. Squeeze all the conditioner into it. Use until finished.

EggOverEasy · 03/08/2023 08:42

Freecycle is great for getting rid of stuff like this.

This is what I'd do

ChardonnaysBeastlyCat · 03/08/2023 08:45

I’ll take a look there.

I would just use them as my actual conditioner until they run out. But try a local Facebook marketplace. I once received a whole bunch of XXL tights in error, shop didn't want them back and a woman from a women's refuge picked them up and thanked me profusely.

Yes to this. It's usually a good quality conditioner, use as an intensive hair mask once a week.
