What was your favourite Enid Blyton book?

When I was a child (80s) read loads of Enid Blyton books (passed down from siblings, library etc) and in the past few months have read loads of these free online (original/early editions, none with updated texts) - prob way more than when I was a child!

Although dated in many ways I have a fondness for the "family" type EB books - (house on the corner, family at red-roofs, six bad boys) which were less well known than Famous five/secret seven etc.

Also I have read several books about EB (biography, book by her agent and a book by her daughter about her childhood) and found these really interesting, of course like all authors/famous people in general who you think you know their lives are more complex (and interesting!) and different to how one would expect and how they are "presented"

So many memories here! Loved so many especially the Barney and Miranda ones, the Five Find-Outers and Mallory Towers (I cried at the end of the last book, aged about 9 😀). My out and out favourites though were the Adventure ones and now I want to re-read them! I also had a soft spot for a one-off called Shadow the Sheepdog.

I actually won a television in an EB competition when I was 10. Which is a strange prize for an avid reader really!

Shadow The Sheepdog was one of my favourites, my friend bought me this version in a second hand book shop after I'd been talking about it. The version I had as a child was a hardback one, there were loads like that with bright covers and a list of all the books on the back. I credit EB with my love of reading which led to my Eng Lit degree. I loved so many of the ones mentioned. I never liked The Famous Five, though can't remember why.

The 'secret' series was my favourite. Just listening to The Secret Island with my daughter and she's enthralled. The others don't seem to be on audiobook, possibly due to dodgy characterisation of 'foreigners'. The Secret Mountain was my favourite, the plot is preposterous!

@RhodoliteGarnet just seen your post, I thought I might be the only one who remembered Shadow 😊.

@Violetparis that’s the version I had! I’m now going through the whole thread and there’s another comment about Shadow too. Glad he has a wee fan club!
