Wanted to come back to this thread as I've now seen the film (forced by my children and their friends).
I stand by my earlier comments re 'pretend feminism'. It's superficial as fuck.
It's visually lovely. Margot Robbie is OK. Ryan gosling is meh..he could be anyone with a six pack.
The film isn't half as clever or subversive as it pretends to be
It takes on the 'easy' questions of feminism (representation at high levels in business, being objectified) and doesn't go anywhere near the really difficult ones (abortion, rape, trans issues, eating disorders, self harm, racism, child abuse).
It's feminism ultra-lite-lite-lite for 12 year olds. And even then it falls short.
I didn't hate it, but I didn't like it either. It's a million miles from being a genuinely subversive or feminist film
I thought and said this before I saw it, but can now speak from a more informed perspective!
