Well, my worst nightmare just came true

First and foremost, I'll admit upfront that I'm being totally melodramatic.

But remember that scene in Arachnophobia where the girl is in the shower, and it turns out she's not alone? I'm only taking solace in the fact that I cant confirm if it's a spider or not.

I was reaching ti put back the shower gel and felt something against my foot, and assumed that the flannel had fell off the handrail into the bath. So I looked down and saw this THING next my foot, shit myself and jumped out of the bath still covered in shower gel.

I sloshed some water towards it to get it to move down to the plug hole, and the little bastard kept standing strong- I think it took about 5 attempts, and then the bloody thing was too big to fit down the drain! 😭

I think it's dead, so I'm going to sneak back in and get a picture. I'm leaning less towards spider, and more towards mutant moth.

Wish me luck!

I just screamed at that photo

Sure you did 🙄

I have done quite well, thank you for asking.
I figure it beats being a judgmental witch with zero sense of humor and no clue of the definition of tongue in cheek. How sad. 😖

You seem a little angry.

Sure you did 🙄

I did, I was scared

ZeldaWillTellYourFortune · 30/07/2023 11:25

No need to kill it. Other creatures deserve their lives as much as we do. Possibly more.

I'm quite scared of moths but I saw what I think was a hummingbird moth at my buddleia the other day it was amazing!

Hopefully the black thing was just a large woodlouse.

We had a hummingbird moth come through the window in our living room. My dd woke me at at 2am 🙄 to come down and catch it. It took ages as the bugger was flitting everywhere lol. I finally caught it and we had a good look, well I did, my dd had a blanket over her head 😂
I released it next to some flowering hostas, it was really beautiful 😍

Franticbutterfly · 30/07/2023 16:25

I'd have burnt my house down by now.

Cirice · 30/07/2023 16:36

I have a shower spider. His name is Simon and he lives up the corner in my shower. We have a mutual agreement, he stays up there whilst I shower and he can stay.
Unfortunately Simon has acquired himself a much larger girlfriend I noticed this morning and she hasn't got the memo to stay up the corner and so I evicted her out of the window earlier.
Sorry Simon.

Tbf, you probably saved Simon from being eaten

Last weekend I got in the shower and brought my clothes to the bathroom and left them folded on the floor.

Only as I was fastening my bra did I see the slider crawling along it. On my boob. Nearly snapped the back strap trying to get it off! Bra went straight into the washing machine, despite being clean.

MeinKraft - I saw a hummingbird moth in my garden too the other day, first time I've ever seen one. I was mesmerized by it.

Wow, I didnt know rhsy were native to the UK. Actually, maybe you're not from the UK tbf.

I saw one in Crete last autumn and thought it was a tiny bird at first. Absolutely beautiful.

No, actually. Someone would have to be important enough for me to get angry and you aren't. I just dish back what is dished out.

You enjoy attacking people it seems? Pent-up frustration perhaps?

Annaishere · 31/07/2023 04:49

I noticed many people on here are angry

EerieSilence · 31/07/2023 18:48

Poor spider! I always check the shower for them and bring them out so they don't get wet and drown. Spiders are cuties once you get to know them better, spoken as a former arachnophobic.

Bubs27 · 31/07/2023 18:51

A friend of mine was in bed a few weeks ago and in the middle of the night she felt something right at the edge of her mouth - she woke up pretty sharpish and flung whatever it was away from her….on went the light and on the floor was a massive spider. She now sleeps with her mouth taped shut….

Chestnutlover · 31/07/2023 19:11

Aww they all have their place and purpose in this world. Try and catch with a glass!!!!!!

laylababe5 · 31/07/2023 19:22

I'm pretty empathetic but I draw the line at people who are afraid of spiders in the UK/Ireland. Get a grip. It's just a very small creature that in all likelihood cannot hurt you. When I see a spider struggling in the sink/bath I go out of my way to save it.

Beenhereforever1978 · 31/07/2023 19:32

I got bitten on the hand in bed by a spider in the UK 3 days before my wedding. My hand swelled up so much I looked like a crap, fleshy version of Thor.

I do always think to myself when people bang on about killing spiders "Have you ever heard about a thing called...birds?"

Go and tell the birds off. 🐦

BoyMumandSMum · 31/07/2023 22:09

I was sitting on my bedroom floor drying my hair once and saw a mouse shoot past and under my bed. Spent a good half an hour trying to convince my cats to "get" said mouse. DP comes home, I'm standing on my bed screaming and crying, so he investigates. It's the ball of hair I removed from my hairbrush. I figured I must have turned the hairdryer in such a way that it blew it across the room but at the time I was wholeheartedly convinced it was a mouse. Felt a right wally 😂

user1493379562 · 31/07/2023 23:10

I am not afraid of spiders. I used to pick the big hairy ones up until one nipped me now I use the glass and cardboard method.
A friend of mine however is terrified of them and she had me in stitches recently as she related what happened when she encounted a large spider on her stairs on her way to bed. She told me how she kept banging the treads of her stairs until said spider had crawled all the way down the stairs. She watched as it scuttled under a door in the hallway so she grabbed a towel and blocked the path so the spider couldn't get out again. I asked why didn't she ask her adult son to put it outside but she told me he was even more scared than she was! I recommended a spider catcher from a well known on line retailer! Cockroaches make my skin crawl though!

That looks like a very tiny and cute horse, can't even recognise it. You are absolutely an evil fucker to actively kill though

yeah Terribly evil, that bit of film may never recover.

Me too.

andfinallyimhere · 31/07/2023 23:54

This thread has made me laugh.

I once killed an absolutely HUGE spider only to discover it was actually the leafy green bit from a large tomato.

ohsuzannah · 01/08/2023 15:26

It’s 2 am and after a stressful day. I’m relaxing in bed with the dogs and all of a sudden little Honey starts growling and staring at the wall opposite. The biggest spider I have ever seen was running across it. I’m not usually bothered about them but my God the size of it!
Got the spider catcher. I stood on a stool and put it over him. Now it’s about 3 inches by 2 and I’m not kidding he was almost too big for it 😱 I just put him out the window and I hope he never comes back! Xx

Spybot · 01/08/2023 21:30

I will one up you all as I live in the American South. Back in 2017 I was letting the dogs out of my back door for final wees before bedtime. One dog stepped out just over the doorframe and looked down at something, I then saw a copper snake snap up and bite her on the nose. She ran back in and I slammed the door with such force I broke the mechanism. The snake then proceeded to jam itself between the glass door and the screen door.

Then had to go and get a shovel, put on weeklies and step outside to kill it after moving it out from behind the screen.

Then took dog to emergency vets as her face swelled up, she was fine the next day!

We also get huge cockroaches about 2 inches by on inch called Palmetto bugs but they are easy to catch and I just take them outside if I find them.
