Parking at St George's Tooting

fatsatsuma · 27/07/2023 17:46

I need to take a relative to an appointment at St George's Tooting tomorrow - am driving from a different part of the country. I can see from their website that there is parking on site, but can anyone tell me what it's like actually trying to find a space? It will be mid afternoon. My local hospital is a complete nightmare for parking and I'm wondering if I need to allow a lot of time to find a space. Thanks all.

It's a nightmare. When I lived in Battersea I used to leave the car at home and take buses or taxi. When I was coming from further afield k used to leave two spare hours for cruising for a space.

karmakameleon · 27/07/2023 17:50

Awful unless you have a blue badge and can park in the single yellow lines outside the hospital. Can your relative manage the bus or the tube?

SapatSea · 27/07/2023 17:50

I usually find a space no problem. There are quite large parking areas.

its a bit variable but I’ve taken my mum there by car and it’s been ok. In London lots of people will travel to appts by public transport, and it’s near a tube station. Driving around Tooting though is terrible and there’s often lots of traffic, so I’d still go early for that reason. If you can’t park there, you’d probably find some metered road parking nearby if needed (although I don’t know where specifically!)

HopelessEstateAgents · 27/07/2023 17:57

Try booking a space on just park. Then walk or Uber to the door

SM33 · 27/07/2023 17:59

You can usually get a space - I’ve been lots of times and most of the time there are spaces. There are also roads nearby where you can pay to park.

SM33 · 27/07/2023 18:01

I would add that the roads are very busy around the hospital and Tooting and surrounding areas have lots of traffic jams! So I’d allow extra time for this

OneFamily · 27/07/2023 18:04

Definitely use just park to ease the stress.

Thanks all, lots of helpful advice, much appreciated.

I always park on Blackshaw Road or Smallwood Road and do pay and display, have always found a space.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 27/07/2023 20:08

A relative goes there a lot, until he had a blue badge it was very difficult so he always took a cab,he lives about 20 mins away.

On occasions he has rented a driveway ,there a a few close by. There are apps you can download,it's easy enough to do.

Leave yourself a lot of extra time.

RegentCafe · 27/07/2023 22:03

Its the school holidays
Should be fine
There is 4 hour parking on lots of streets around if not

mondaytosunday · 27/07/2023 22:10

I live nearby and have been there a lot recently and unless you get there before 10am it's hard to park in the lot. I go in, do one sweep around then park in the street if nothing available - I've always found one quite near the entrance to the parking lot.

Svalberg · 27/07/2023 22:31

I've always found a space on Coverton Road, you'll need a parking app though, not sure which one

johsq20 · 27/07/2023 22:32

Park on a side street. There's one that I never remember the name of closer to the moorfields eye clinic that normally has space.

Ringo in Wandsworth

Lovepeaceunderstanding · 27/07/2023 22:35

I took my dad there, he had a blue badge and it was nigh on impossible. If you can, park a bit out and get other transport to the hospital

RegentCafe · 27/07/2023 22:38

It is also ULEZ and 20 miles an hour around much of the area now. So bear that in mind.

£3.40 an hour for on the street parking

TimeforaGandT · 27/07/2023 22:40

I usually manage to park with no problem on Pevensey Road or one of the side roads off it and put it on a meter there (RingGo).

forgotname · 27/07/2023 22:42

Done my cancer treatment there so was there twice a week. Always found a space. Perimeter Road is a little more expensive than the car park. If you do park on Perimeter Road make sure you park on the right side as I didn't and got a ticket for parking on residents side.

RosesAndHellebores · 27/07/2023 22:49

If your relly has trouble walking I'd park at Centre Court, Wimbledon and either get the 39 or an Uber. It used to be possible to park at the Sainsbury/M&S site at Merton Abbey Mills/Colliers Wood but it might have changed to a 2 hr limit.

It's fine until about 9.15. Spaces arise at 12ish as people finish their outpatient appointments. Visiting from 2pm so difficult until about 5.30.

RosesAndHellebores · 27/07/2023 22:54

Or park here. Less that 10 minutes in an uber.Haydon Road Recreation Ground

Recently half the carpark has been unavailable due to portacabins using the space, however i was at an appt last Monday and i noticed that they have all gone! So the car park seemed a lot bigger from walking past. I was there at 4pm and there were quite a few spaces but that was during the junior dr strike days so i assume there would have been a lot fewer people on site than normal.

DifficultBloodyWoman · 27/07/2023 23:29

It was always a nightmare for.

I used to park on Boundary Road and walk over the footbridge. Is your relative able to walk and do stairs? If not, maybe you could drop them off first?

tobee · 28/07/2023 00:56

I was there tonight (obviously no problem at that hour) fyi the old hospital buildings by the entrance seem to have (finally) been knocked down and are now staff parking.

Plenty of times I've been there's no parking to be had on site: people frequently park on parts that aren't real spaces, jamming everything up further.

I usually park in surrounding streets with Ringo and usually not too tricky but give yourself time. Worth finding out which entrance the department you need is nearest to and park accordingly. Leave plenty of time.
