This was substituted in my shopping for something I would normally put in sandwiches so I used this straight from the pack instead. Ive just seen the ‘cook me please’ on the front 🫣
ive already made my lunch for today and don’t want to throw it! Will it be ok?

Tuna sandwiches dont smell, you wouldnt even know someones got one, same with salmon

Of course tuna smells! Either your fish so often you can no longer get smell it or you have no sense of smell....

Zampa · 27/07/2023 08:27

That's my favourite lunch treat OP, with pitta and crunchy salad. I imagine it's quite grim uncooked though. I doubt it will do you any harm however.

How about mashed avocado or falafel in a sandwich? Or just with salad leaves?

Sugargliderwombat · 27/07/2023 08:34

The put this on veggie stuff because it's nicer cooked and people buy it not realising that, it's fine to eat raw I do all the time.

BarbaraofSeville · 27/07/2023 08:35

fartfacenotfatface · 27/07/2023 08:06

I disagree. Tuna absolutely does smell!

And?

What bad thing happens if you can smell food?

MissingOkie · 27/07/2023 08:39

You’re the one who stinks out the office aren’t you? 🤣

What bad thing happens if you can smell food?

The pp didn’t say anything bad would happen, they were just answering the person that insisted it didn’t smell, because it does!

continentallentil · 27/07/2023 08:41

decent quality ham isn’t going to be more expensive than this

chicken (buy a whole one or frozen chicken breasts to keep costs down)

Humous or cottage cheese - just assemble it at the time so it doesn’t get soggy.

Salads will give you more options though

CurlewKate · 27/07/2023 08:42

I feel like a representative for the Felafel Council of Britain- but....felafel?

Don’t be obtuse

People don’t want to smell other peoples lunches in an office.

This isn’t unreasonable, not everything likes fish, plus a lot of competing smells would be unpleasant all round.

starrylights · 27/07/2023 08:45

My husband did the same thing with the same product for months! He was never ill. I think it's the packaging.

Wozzzzz · 27/07/2023 08:49

People's obsession with the avoidance of lunch smells in the workplace is bonkers! It's not like you're in an enclosed space like a bus or car. Do the same people who have a problem with these smells avoid all cafes and restaurants for the same reason?

Wozzzzz · 27/07/2023 08:50

OP, in the absence of the UPF filling, you could try chickpeas mashed with a little red onion, salt, pepper, lemon juice and some garlic powder

SquirrelFan · 27/07/2023 08:55

If you're happy to eat meat, throw in leftover cooked chicken, pork, or beef from your dinners?

StampOnTheGround · 27/07/2023 08:55

Tuna does absolutely stink!

I probably wouldn't eat it OP, but I don't think it'll harm you if you do. 😊

Exactly, I don't see the issue. So what if you can smell someone else's lunch?

fku · 27/07/2023 08:59

Buy a chicken breast and slice it yourself.

Bananabedhead · 27/07/2023 09:01

We did the same at first before reading the pack, were all still alive! Now we give it 5 minutes in a pan and then cool it for a sandwich.
It's lovely, no one in our family is vegetarian but I can't recall when I last bought meat as we all prefer the plant based stuff. The kebab style one is really nice

NeedToKnow101 · 27/07/2023 09:03

Just don't heat up kedgeree in an office microwave, then pop a boiled egg on top. That guileless act followed me around for years!

bellac11 · 27/07/2023 07:43

Nothing wrong or smelly about tuna or salmon sandwich

Whats wrong with cheese

Hummous and carrot

Slices of roast beef

shredded chicken that you have cooked yourself

@bellac11

tuna and salmon can be smelly, of course they can

fku · 27/07/2023 08:59

@fku

if she wanted meat she would have bought meat
not every meal has to include meat you know

BitOutOfPractice · 27/07/2023 09:54

I have to say, that does look vile!

Like everything at the moment, you have to pay more for decent cooked meat. It's a shocking price.

Alternatives: cold sausages, cheese, tomato, cooked chicken breast you've cooked yourself, falafal, roasted veg and hummus...the list goes on. So many better alternatives than that ultra-processed stuff.

Alternatively egg and tuna (or salmon or whatever), eaten outside.

Or something other than a sandwich maybe? A fritatta cooked at home and brought in cold is delicious.

Today I have home made laab in crispy lettuce wraps. I am already excited for lunch.

Not much would induce me to eat that, raw or cooked!

Peony654 · 27/07/2023 09:57

cocunut · 27/07/2023 07:24

It's not even real meat and probably UPF so can't imagine it's any worse raw than cooked

This. So processed I doubt cooking will change it much

Beeonmyeyelash · 27/07/2023 10:11

"competing smells" is nasty? So whatever you like to eat wins then because it's yours? Nonsense.

I love how nobody is ever like let's ban ham in the office because it stinks, which it does, and can be smelt on people's breath for hours after. Strange that. Or spicy food. Or greasy food like burgers. Both of which can stink a room out. But anyone who eats tuna or eggs is somehow the spawn of Satan?

Eat what you like OP they're not going to fire you. People need to get over themselves. That plant based thing will be ok cold.

DataColour · 27/07/2023 10:38

How funny. Yesterday I attended a lunch meeting and the sandwiches on offer included tuna and egg mayo (not together), plus others like cheese and chicken. Didn't smell at all!

BocolateChiscuits · 27/07/2023 11:08

For the people saying "UPF, I wouldn't touch it". Would you be saying that if it were an out-of-date pack of crisps that the poster was asking whether it was okay to eat, or is it just plant-based meat alternatives that irk you? Most people only eat this stuff occasionally. Even vegans - because lentils, beans, tofu, seitan, jack fruit etc all are great wholefood protein sources. I could make you some lovely burgers out of black beans, nuts, oats, spices and a bit of beetroot.

Besides which ham is hardly unprocessed itself.

Makes me laugh how people are suggesting sausages as a healthier, less processed alternative
yeah, no
sausages are soooooooo bad for you
