Handhold for the weekend?

weegiemum · 26/07/2023 22:41

I feel like a total idiot asking this, like I'm a real flake!

Tomorrow dh and ds (21) are off to Belgium for the weekend, it's ds's 21st birthday present to go to the Belgian Grand Prix. Both dh and dh are huge F1 fans.

Dd1 lives away and is working all weekend. Dd2 is also working and spending most of the weekend with her boyfriend as it's much closer to work for her and dad isn't around to give her lifts (I'm medically unfit to drive).

I suffer from fairly well controlled anxiety and depression as well as a physical disability. I don't know the last time I had to spend 4 days by myself! I've reached out to a few friends but most folk are busy over the weekend. One of my closest friends is coming for r lunch on Saturday.

So I'm just feeling a wee bit fragile at the thought of being all alone. I'll have the dog and cat which is a help. It's really important I don't get upset and call dh while he's away!

So a couple of people just holding my hand will help! I feel so silly worrying about this!!

Op I’ve read your posts and it sounds like you’re having a great time so far! I’m jealous, have a long weekend ahead and needing plans!
How was your Chinese?
I actually enjoyed the Barbie movie, it was cheesy with some lovely moments and surprisingly funny!

AuntyMabelandPippin · 28/07/2023 19:55

If you're a Harrison Ford fan, Working Girl is on Netflix. My DH is away at the moment and I spent a happy evening lusting after Harrison watching it.

I've three nights left on my own too, I'm having a glass of fizz and watching all the stuff he hates to watch.

Sewingdufus · 28/07/2023 20:15

Sounds like a good day today and another tomorrow!

DeedlessIndeed · 28/07/2023 20:22

Oh same!

DP away for the weekend, and my plans got cancelled last minute, so it'll be a quiet one for me too!

I'm used to it now, but DP works away for a week at a time, fairly frequently. When he started I felt a bit lost and was definitely anxious.

Things that get me through:

  • Audiobook / podcasts
  • Have a project or goal to accomplish - mine is usually gardening or having a good clear out of a cupboard etc.
  • Get goodies for a treat night to look forward too
  • If I start to miss DP, I usually try to plan something nice for him. This time I will be planning an upcoming anniversary gift.
pickledandpuzzled · 28/07/2023 20:27

That sounds fab, OP! I'm jealous!

When it's done, think how confident you will feel?!

MadCatLady27 · 28/07/2023 20:40

I completely understand your feelings! It was OH stag weekend last Sunday and I did ok until after watching the F1 then really struggled

How about a long relaxing bath
A really good book
a jigsaw puzzle?
watch something you know they'd hate

MadCatLady27 · 28/07/2023 20:43

Also something my matron of honour suggested - try and get an early night/like on so you sleep through some of it!

I resorted to Kalms during the day and a can of pink gin and tonic by the evening!

MadCatLady27 · 28/07/2023 20:43

Lie in not like on!!!

MadCatLady27 · 28/07/2023 20:44

Also Mumsnet classics can while away many an hour!

MadCatLady27 · 28/07/2023 20:50

Also sorry for spam wish MN let you edit!

I've just seen your user name, is your cat a Norwegian Forest Cat per chance? 😍 (Feel free to ignore me if I'm completely wrong!!)

AnotherDayAnotherUsernameForMeAgain · 28/07/2023 20:58

Glad you are enjoying yourself @weegiemum.
How was your Chinese takeaway?

weegiemum · 29/07/2023 11:48

That's me half way through!

Bit of a downer on the Chinese as they delivered the wrong thing and I got chips instead of spring rolls, which I was really looking forward to. Ate the chips anyway, of course!!!

Spoke to dh just now, the sprint race qualifying is on just now and the noise is amazing. They're having a really good time which helps a lot as ds has had a hard couple of years (depressed after leaving school during lockdown, took a couple of years to decide what to study and then he's in the process of being diagnosed with epilepsy) and it's so good to hear him so upbeat!

Going to the cinema this evening. I can manage!!

Thank you for all your support, it's really helping.Grin

Glad you're doing so so well Weegie ! Be so proud of yourself 💞

ssd · 29/07/2023 12:52

You sound really positive and like you are doing so well @weegiemum

I think we live near each other, sort of, I'm a @weegiemum tooGrin

Hope you enjoy barbie, i haven't seen it and in a house full of boys it's not on anyone's radar...

What other nice meals do you have planned?

weegiemum · 29/07/2023 15:10

All gone wrong.

I've had a huge meltdown which has involved my crying for an hour and cancelling my trip to the cinema. I'm just in bits all of a sudden, so tired I can hardly move and scared to leave the house. My wheelchair is really temperamental and only dh really knows how to deal with it and I'm on the large side and scared to let anyone else push me.

Going back to bed. I've failed. Well not too much as I'm not begging dh to come home, but enough to feel I've let myself down .

Have a sleep and you'll hopefully feel better. Your chair can be sorted OP...Google is your friend.
Let your friends help you.

You've done amazing so far 💪

ssd · 29/07/2023 15:22

Ach god love you. We can only keep the positive schtick up for so long, then we crash. I'm the same. I'm sorry. You aren't a failure, you are only human. Stay in bed, get a sleep then try to distract your mind with a pod cast or some UK Gold on the telly. Be kind to yourself and look forward to them returning soon Flowers

Watchthedoormat · 29/07/2023 15:23

Take a breath.

Is going back to bed going to make you feel better? No. You'll feel worse.
What would you say to a friend who is feeling as you feel now?

weegiemum · 29/07/2023 15:26

Bed is definitely the best policy right now. I've been awake since just after 6.

I've set my alarm and am getting up at 5. I've got fresh gnocchi in the fridge for tea (no one else in the family likes it but it's my favourite Italian food) so I will get up and make it with cheese sauce (personal choice but I have Gorgonzola!) and garlic bread. Then I'll find a film on Amazon (any suggestions?) and have a chill evening!

coloursquare · 29/07/2023 15:56

How about binge watching TV shows?

These are the ones I have loved over the years.

Cold Feet
Sex and the City
Happy Valley
Last Tango in Halifax

Jackydaytona · 29/07/2023 16:16

Oooh gnocchi
Nice!
I hate it when takeaways are disappointing (which is pretty much always tbh)
I find films that make me laugh make the time pass quicker, so I'd suggest :
Bridesmaids
This is spinal tap
Never been kissed
Enchanted
Catherine called birdy to name a few...

pickledandpuzzled · 29/07/2023 16:48

My diagnosis- you're overtired! All the excitement of the last few days, and the excitement to come, and you've just over done it.

It's fine. We really liked wayward pines.

If you're not delicate of sentiment, Deadloch is fabulous. Course, funny, and hugely female. It takes a couple of episodes to get to grips with, but it's fabulous.

Enjoy your gnocchi!

SpringSparrow · 29/07/2023 19:02

Aw, hope you feel better when you wake up. I think I watched Living on Amazon Prime the other day. I quite fancy Are you there god, it’s me Margaret, but you do have to pay for that one.

ssd · 29/07/2023 19:16

Enjoy your smelly gnocci Grin (hate gorgonzola)

And hope you had a wee sleep
