Hot tub in new holiday let or not?

Loafbeginsat60 · 26/07/2023 21:30

We are building two three-bed holiday lets on our farm - they are quite private and have nice views over the countryside.

We will accept dogs and offer activities such as fishing and clay pigeon shooting and possibly options to get involved on the farm but not sure about that yet.

Anyway my question.... do we put in hot tubs or not - two small ones, one large one or none at all? I hear people think they are grim sex ponds and yet others love them.

What's does the collective wisdom of MN think - would you rent a rural properly without a hot tub or would you like to see one provided?

Thanks

My kids would always want one, it's a good chill out activity that's still a fun novelty for them.

I've only ever chosen a lodge that has a hot tub.

DustyLee123 · 26/07/2023 21:31

No, sex ponds.

TeamSleep · 26/07/2023 21:32

I’m not a fan of hot tubs. All the chemicals. An outdoor bath though, now you’re talking! Especially if it has a gorgeous view.

There’s some regulation that means you’re meant to clean it after each booking is over. That, plus pulling peoples hairs out of the filter would have me heaving 🤢

Lessonsinbiology · 26/07/2023 21:33

Would you be cleaning them out between guests? Allowing dogs would put me off renting it.

CallMeDiaz · 26/07/2023 21:36

Nobody on Mumsnet would ever admit to something so uncouth as liking hot tubs, it's not the place to ask!

In all honesty, I wouldn’t pick a holiday let if it didn’t have a hot tub.
My children love them, I love them.

Those who don’t like them will surely simply just not use the hot tub for their stay. But not including one could put people off choosing your property.

mainbrochus · 26/07/2023 21:52

Deffo yes! Can save a holiday if the weather is bad.

Invisimamma · 26/07/2023 21:55

I think for a lot of people a hot tub will be in their search criteria for a holiday.

I would say one for each property, I wouldn't want to share with next door.

They do cost a lot to heat though, and the cleaning.

OrigamiOwls · 26/07/2023 21:56

A smaller hot tub for each holiday let would get my vote (rather then one larger one for both to share, that just sounds awkward).
A hot tub is something that I specifically look for when looking for a holiday let.

Seasideanticscanleadtosandybuckets · 26/07/2023 21:58

We found the perfect place. Actually asked for a discount as we would never use a hot tub.
Isn't it just sharing a bath with other people? Yuck.

iluvsummer · 26/07/2023 22:00

We have a holiday let and considered putting one in but the maintenance needed for ones in a holiday let was a lot of work so we haven’t. Hasn’t affected the amount of bookings we have but then again when I look for a holiday let I tend to look for one with a hot tub! It depends on whether you have got the time to maintain them properly. There are a few groups in Facebook that have advice on this that may be useful to join.

Findyourneutralspace · 26/07/2023 22:03

MN will say no. I say yes. People love a hot tub and if they don’t they just won’t use it.
Don’t do a shared one though. One for each property so they have their privacy and fgs clean it between occupants.

EversoDetermined · 26/07/2023 22:09

No, we never consider this as part of a holiday search.

dubyalass · 26/07/2023 22:12

Will there be sufficient distance between them and the neighbouring house to reduce noise travelling? I would avoid booking somewhere that had hot tubs in each property because I like peace and quiet when I'm away. If it was around a corner it wouldn't bother me. It's not something I look for in a holiday let because I get bored in them after ten minutes so I just wouldn't bother using one. I'd much rather go to a spa!

BarbiewhupsSindy · 26/07/2023 22:14

Outdoor bath a la Rest And Wild is the way to go.

Confidence of cleanliness fir the holiday maker and much less labour intensive for you.

Also they just jerl as though they'd be serenely used; not rowdy karaoke sex pits like a whirly noisy LED lit one.

BarbiewhupsSindy · 26/07/2023 22:14

Jerl = feel ffs

fuckmyuteruslining · 26/07/2023 22:16

One with, one without?

rookiemere · 26/07/2023 22:23

I love having a hot tub on holiday and No I've never had sex in one.
You need two separate ones. You can charge extra for use of the hot tub for a week to cover the electricity costs, that way people don't have to use it if they don't want to.

Loafbeginsat60 · 28/07/2023 11:46

Thanks so much everyone for your replies - I forgot I had started the thread!

So it sounds like they would be popular overall. I'm actually allergic to chlorine myself so I thought about using salt water and change it in between guests.
But I don't know if that's allowed we might have to use chemicals.

The two lodges are on the same site yes but away from other neighbours. But we will build in privacy for each hot tub! Maybe one our back and one in the front or round the side.

Thanks for all your views

I wouldn’t book a holiday let unless it had a hot tub and allowed dogs.

Shoesonthefloor · 28/07/2023 11:56

Must admit I'm completely baffled as to why a hot tub would cross anyone's mind when booking a holiday but I'm clearly in the minority judging by this thread!
