How many wedding photos did you get from your photographer and how much did you pay?

DH is saying I am being unreasonable so I am just wanting to gauge what the norm is.

We paid £500, photographer was there 3.5 hours and we have got approx 130 images. I haven't seen them yet as I am at work but I am feeling a bit deflated. That doesn't seem a lot of images to me. I know he has edited them as he was slightly delayed delivering them. My friend got 1700 but her photographer was there all day I suppose.

I think we got around 800-900 images. But our photographer was there from us getting ready until after our first dance.

Assignedtoworryyourmother · 26/07/2023 12:22

That's not a typo? One thousand seven hundred??? Why in the name of God would anyone want that many?? OP it's important right now because it's recent. You may frame a nice one or flick through them all on your anniversary. Then you'll never look through them again. Better to have a few great ones than repetition and fandoms.

Weddingpuzzle · 26/07/2023 12:25

Yep 1700! Not a typo!

That's true re not really needing that many. The 5 that I have seen have been amazing so I think I am over worrying. I am hoping it's quality over quantity Sad

130 feels like a manageable amount to me. I can't imagine 800-900 decent pictures, you'd never look at most of them again. I imagine he took a lot more but has bene very selective and only picked the best ones, which is very sensible. We've been invited to couple of online wedding galleries in the last couple of years and none have had more than 200 photos in (thankfully!).

Nap1983 · 26/07/2023 12:31

I honestly cannot imagine 1700 pics of one day… they must all be near identical. Seems ludicrous tbh. From
all my wedding pics which were probably around the same number as yours I have one in a frame in the house. Haven’t even looked or thought about the others in years

Hummusanddipdip · 26/07/2023 12:33

I bet they got the raw images too, not all edited, pretty confident no photographer is going to edit 1700 pictures.

Caspianberg · 26/07/2023 12:35

A lot! Not uk and the rate is high, we had lots of quotes all the same or higher.
€2800 - that was 12pm-8pm. I think it was around 300 edited photos, and all the raw photos. He did mainly ‘natural’ photos ie just followed everyone around all afternoon so we only had a one whole group staged one.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 26/07/2023 12:38

I'd much rather have 100 well shot / edited photos than 1700 images of shite

Sunnysidegold · 26/07/2023 12:56

We got a cd ROM with all the thousand photos that he took on the day. He then had put together about a hundred of what he thought were the best images.

Obviously the thousand contained several snaps of each pose / picture. He said he took loads so there were plenty of options and he could Photoshop faces about if someone had their eyes shut.

Peony654 · 26/07/2023 13:01

That sounds okay to me if they are all good quality. We had about 800 but all duplicate in colour and B&W, so only 400 and the photographer was there about 8 hours. And loads were similar

Weddingpuzzle · 26/07/2023 13:09

He is a very fastidious guy who isn't a wedding photographer by trade, he's an art photographer (I've known him years) so I suspect he has basically created lovely pictures and he was really thoughtful about the light etc. I need to get a grip. I feel ridiculous - I am fixating on the stupidest inconsequential shit at the moment. All linked to being in a surgical menopause and no longer having a uterus - I might not have a DH much longer too if I carry on being so weird! Thanks all.

Our photographer and assistant (who we didn't pay for but happened to be free on the day!) were with me from the finishing touches of me getting ready at home, all the way through to just after the first dance so we got a load of party shots too. So approx 12hrs of coverage for what should've been about £1300 but we had mates rates and this was back in 2019.

DontBeAPrickDarren · 26/07/2023 13:17

Two photographers - probably ended up with 600 pics but I’d say half were black and white versions of the colour ones. They also took several on film rather than digital. They were with us from about 8am until 10pm, absolutely amazing, think they were about £650? Few years ago now though.

Minimochi · 26/07/2023 13:29

Ours was there all day...and the next morning. We got a beautiful book with photos which he had selected and edited. (Not 1000+, that would have been insane.)
My cousin is a photographer and he did them for us as our wedding present.

navithefairy · 26/07/2023 13:30

Ours promised a minimum of 50 edited photos per hour that they are at the wedding.

I think it was about £1500 to have them for the day (1pm-11pm).

We ended up with about 1000 photos.

Leapintothelightning · 26/07/2023 14:20

We were £650, probably around 10 hours - from getting ready until about an hour into the dancing. We got about 300 photos

So I think 130 for 3.5 hours is really quite good!

FriendsDrinkBook · 26/07/2023 14:36

We paid £300 for our photographer to attend for 3hrs and to provide a USB with 75 photos. This was very reasonable after looking at all options.

Turfwars · 26/07/2023 14:38

I bet they will turn out amazing. For what it's worth we got a family member to take ours and we got a handful of decent shots - that's all we wanted really.

AlwaysWantingIceLollies · 26/07/2023 14:52

Had a 6th form photography student take ours, £120 from 1pm till probably 11pm, we had 85 fantastic photos from him on a USB stick.
I then chose and paid for which ones I wanted to have printed off myself in all different sizes for my album/framed photos.

My cousin on the other hand paid hundreds more from a professional and she hates them all, I've not seen her wedding photos because she really dislikes them.

bibbityboppityboo · 26/07/2023 14:52

I did similar to you OP and got a similar amount of photos!

Tbh it would take you ten hours to look through 1700 😂 130 is fab - you'll only print or look at a few and you wouldn't ever be printing out 1700 or making a photo album from them.

Quality not quantity!!

Pkhsvd · 26/07/2023 14:55

We have 500, paid £800. To be honest a lot are of the same thing at different angles and only 60 of them made it into my wedding album and it was such a pain to choose so I’d be happy with 130 if they are all nice.

Daffodilsandbees · 26/07/2023 14:55

I agree that quality is more important than quantity. However, you could ask to have the rest of the photos, unedited? The editing takes lots of time I believe

Nuca · 26/07/2023 15:02

We paid £500, ours was there from 2pm until about 9pm and we got around 200 photos

SnoopyDoopy1 · 26/07/2023 15:15

We paid £2700 and got around 200 images. He was there all day too, but each photo is fabulous.
