How many wedding photos did you get from your photographer and how much did you pay?

DH is saying I am being unreasonable so I am just wanting to gauge what the norm is.

We paid £500, photographer was there 3.5 hours and we have got approx 130 images. I haven't seen them yet as I am at work but I am feeling a bit deflated. That doesn't seem a lot of images to me. I know he has edited them as he was slightly delayed delivering them. My friend got 1700 but her photographer was there all day I suppose.

He is a very fastidious guy who isn't a wedding photographer by trade, he's an art photographer (I've known him years) so I suspect he has basically created lovely pictures and he was really thoughtful about the light etc. I need to get a grip. I feel ridiculous - I am fixating on the stupidest inconsequential shit at the moment. All linked to being in a surgical menopause and no longer having a uterus - I might not have a DH much longer too if I carry on being so weird! Thanks all.

You don't have to slate yourself OP, make excuses or feel embarrassed for being worried about the photos. It's ok to be normal and worry about things around a wedding, that's all part and parcel of spending a fortune on one event, of course you're going to want value for the money you've spent.

You were worried, so you asked people. People reassured you, great. Honestly, don't fret.

130 feels like a manageable amount to me. I can't imagine 800-900 decent pictures, you'd never look at most of them again. I imagine he took a lot more but has bene very selective and only picked the best ones, which is very sensible. We've been invited to couple of online wedding galleries in the last couple of years and none have had more than 200 photos in (thankfully!).

We had 800-900 digital images and they are on a USB. They are all very good quality images. Some were duplicates in black and white. We chose a smaller amount for our photo album which probably has around 50 images. But I still go back and look at the digital ones from time to time.

HashBrownandBeans · 26/07/2023 17:21

We paid about the same as you and got about the same amount. We only had her for a few hours as we chose a small package. We have the best ones in an album and a few favourites up on the wall.

Weddingpuzzle · 26/07/2023 17:31

@SchoolShenanigans thank you. That's really kind. I'm not a natural fretter but seem to be doing a lot of it lately!

We paid £1000 nearly 10year ago. We got about a thousand photos all in - including all the unedited shots & candid shots (we’d 2 shooters on the day). We maybe got about 100 edited photos but my favourite photo of the day is an unedited candid photo.

justanothermummma · 26/07/2023 21:02

500 photos £750 x

QueSyrahSyrah · 26/07/2023 21:09

We paid £1500 for one of the best regarded wedding photographers locally, she was with us about 9am to 8pm. We got circa 200 photos, all beautifully shot and edited.

Other than the half dozen we've had printed and framed we only look at the others on our anniversary anyway Grin

1700 is insane.

xyz111 · 26/07/2023 21:17

We got 700 pics. Photographer was there from getting ready, to then after the first dance. We get the USB with all the pics, and then 60 printed in an album. Think it was £1300

My favourite pictures of the day came from some of the guests. Lovely natural ones where we didn't even know they were taken

Turtletoe · 26/07/2023 21:20

1700?! Good god, sounds more like a video. Imight be in the minority, but Who wants that many pictures?

StGertrude · 26/07/2023 21:23

200 for £700 2 years ago.

But we got to scroll through the raw pics in a meeting with her before she edited and finalised them to choose ours finals.

DrCharlotteKing · 26/07/2023 21:24

We paid £1200 and got about 500. I would say about 50-60 of them are lovely and the rest are not very good. All different angles of the same shot, random photos I would say are just there to fill space, different colour versions. I would much rather 130 lovely photos than the 500 I have. I'm sure yours will be beautiful.

GorgeousGoldies · 26/07/2023 21:31

We paid around £1000 (20 years ago!) - no idea how many photos but we chose an album from them. Had a couple on display for the first few years, showed our parents the album and then it’s been in the loft ever since! Honestly, 130 good photos are more than enough.

UselessAtPacking · 26/07/2023 21:45

Paid 0 as was a relative and was our gift from them

Around 150 images of Edited and raw. Now all in 1 photo book. Have looked once since to show youngest dc who i was pregnant with at the time od wedding.

Creamteasandbumblebees · 26/07/2023 23:58

I got married nearly 20 years ago, our wedding photographer turned up hungover, had to retake the photos outside the church as he forgot to put film in the camera! He delivered us about 50 photos that were all either over exposed or blurry. We have about 5 decent shots of our day and my parents paid him alot of money. Fortunately family and friends took lots of pictures and we had disposable cameras at the reception (although lots of these were drunken shots of under the Scottsmens kilts! 🙈) we can laugh about it now but I was gutted at the time!

thefirstmrsrochester · 27/07/2023 00:09

Pre digital (1998) I paid £1800 for my wedding photographer.

Pics of me were arrival at church, ceremony and that was it. Maybe 200 pics to choose from.

STBX had loads of pics of him and his friends.

My wedding photographer told me that my new dh was cold as ice and he wasn’t wrong.

dutysuite · 27/07/2023 00:19

I received 279 photos and at the time I thought is that all! They start with me getting ready all the way through to the ceremony, there are some I hate. The price was included in our destination wedding. I put a couple of my favourites in photo frames and still haven’t printed the rest almost 10 years on.

WeetabixTowels · 27/07/2023 01:12

That’s very cheap for a photographer OP!

Your friend got 1700 images! I bet they were all mostly the same and not edited. How boring to have to look through so many. I’d rather have 130 good quality unique images than to traipse through 1,700 because the photographer values quantity over quality.

Weddingpuzzle · 27/07/2023 09:23

They are absolutely lovely. Phew! DH and I cast them on the TV and shared a bottle of wine. DD was giggling at herself (she was a reluctant flower girl as my sister who was meant to be MOH pulled out of the wedding last minute in a strop). There are almost too many nice ones to choose from. 130 is more than enough! I couldn't cope with thousands, I'd have choice paralysis!

We didn’t actually want any formal photos but parents said we would regret so asked a friend (who is a legit photographer) to just do the bare minimum ‘mantle piece’ shots as we called them - i.e. the 10ish photos that you might actually display. He ended up providing about 70 which was perfect - a mix of formal group shots and a few candid ones. My sister has just received 1500 from her wedding - they have printed 7! You really don’t need many…

Justyouwaitandseeagain · 15/09/2023 22:56

£1200, 2 photographers and around 2000 digital images. I wanted all of them and it's brilliant to have all the candid shots from the getting ready to candid guest shots
