@MonsterCalling Is that powder or chocolate flakes?

PatsWoggle · 09/10/2023 21:52

I don't have a velvetiser but do have a dualit milk frother that we use for hot chocolate.
We use M&S Belgian hot chocolate flakes. I like to mix the milk and dark, DC like the blonde chocolate ones.

I buy the 2kg Pendragon hot chocolate - it's the best and very good value

Hotel Chocolat sachets. My philistine children use Galaxy powder.

It’s powder. Very good dark cocoa powder with sugar.

I use this - it's beautifully rich and I prefer it over the Hotel chocolat ones.

I can see this is an old thread, but I've just bought a velvetiser and find it a bit 'meh'.

I use Tesco Finest drinking chocolate, which I used before I got the velvetiser and it's nice and chocolatey flavour for me.

However, I find the temperature of the drink coming out of the velvetiser is only luke warm and goes cold very quickly.

The FAQs suggest warming up your cup - but that involves boiling the kettle so I may as well just use hot water from the kettle to make the drink.

It also suggests rinsing the velvetiser in cold water between hot drinks so the built in thermostat works better. However the drinks are never more than luke warm, even with the first cup, and I like a hotter drink, so I'm disappointed with the velvetiser.

I think they are a lot of fuss about nothing.

@crockofshite Hot chocolate with milk is far superior to hot chocolate made from hot water. I find heating the mug with boiling water keeps the hot chocolate lovely and warm.

But each to their own.

@crockofshite The Velvetiser is designed for milk rather than water which is why it doesn't heat up to boiling. I pre-warm the cups which keeps it nice and hot. I've only used Hotel Chocolat sachets so far as I received a few boxes at Christmas.

I use the hotel chocolate sachets, sometimes they are on offer if near the BBE date. DS also knows I like them so buys them for me at Christmas.

If you have the ceramic cups that come with it, or microwave safe cups, just put a little water in the bottom and heat for 30 seconds. Pour the water out and then serve your chocolate in them, it keeps it toasty warm!

Alternatively do a second spin in the velvitiser or heat a little further in the microwave once done, I find the temp perfect as is, as milk shouldn’t be boiled.

Does the velvetiser work if you use alternative milks? We have family members with CMPA

Yes, absolutely. I know a few people who use oat milk and soya milk in theirs.
