It's my birthday next week!. What little luxuries would you ask for if it was your birthday?

It's my birthday next week. My family always ask me what I'd like and I always ask for boring old vouchers.

I think the problem is that I don't really know what's out there as I've never really had the money for luxuries! I'd love an expensive shower gel or shampoo (love coconut/shea/almond/musk/sandalwood type scents rather than fruity). Or a naice shampoo (hair is coloured and very dry since menopause)

I love those rosy tinted moisturisers that make you look dewey....I usually use L'Oréal or Garnier ....is there anything more high end that's amazing?

I fancy trying some Molton Brown....what scents are gorgeous? Or what's L'Occitane like?

I'd love a luxury lip balm....any suggestions?

I'm open to any suggestions of any pampery lovely stuff. Or anything life changing I'm yet to discover....what's on your birthday list?

Thanks in advance 🙂

For a luxury rosy dewy primer/moisturizer, the Chanel Rosy Light Drops are gorgeous. It's not really enough to provide any coverage but you can easily mix it in with a more substantial tinted moisturizer or just use it on days you want a tiny bit of radiance and nothing else.

I love Rituals for indulgent showering and aftercare. The Ritual Of Ayurveda scent is particularly gorgeous.

If you're in the market for an expensive but beautiful body scrub (which you can also use on your scalp), Ouai does a beautiful one both in its original scent and the St Barts scent.

A very underrated brand for shower gels and body creams is Korres. You can often pick up their stuff in TK Maxx for under a tenner. They do all sorts of beautiful scents but I particularly love the rose one.

Dior are the best for lip nourishing products. The lip balm is lovely and the lip oil is even better.

Something I'll occasionally use as they help me with headaches and when I just want to completely relax is Spacemasks. They are single use eye masks that heat up upon contact with the skin. They're a lovely experience.

I love Kevin Murphy shampoo and conditioner. The thickening one smells beautiful. Also,
Image skincare! The vitamin C range smells
so luxurious. Rituals shower products are gorgeous- the ritual of Jing, Mehr and Karma are three of my favourite scents. I hope you have a lovely, special day and Happy Birthday in advance!

REN Moroccan Rose body oil, it is my birthday soon and I really want some more. I was given some as a gift and it is lovely…cruelty free too

I have a whole Amazon wishlist of things, I tend not to indulge myself often so any type of candle, even plain supermarket ones because I use them every evening. Books from my list, 19 Crimes wine because even if I was given an expensive bottle I probably would not taste the difference, DVD's and CD's from my list because I actually like to own my media and not rely on the internet and I have a CD player in my truck which I requested was fitted!! At the age of 55 I have never bought myself a bottle of perfume and I have a favourite, so gift vouchers towards that. Gargoyles and skulls because everyday is Halloween in my house. I am very definitely not your average Mumsnetter although I would quite like one of those Neom diffusers

What with the cost of living, we often give edible gifts these days and they're very much appreciated. It's become a regular thing to fill up MiL's freezer with food she wouldn't buy for herself, because it's too expensive, and she loves it. Done this with other family members too and it's always well accepted.

There are also some very good quality hampers out there, or you can make your own up and fill it with fancy stuff for treats.

You have lots of ideas already but something a bit different - My brother gave me a 6 month subscription to Freddie’s flowers. Every month a lovely bunch flowers appeared. It was a real treat 🙂 Happy birthday

CanIbeRio · 22/07/2023 17:49

Wow...just popped back to the thread and I'm bowled over by all the posts and suggestions! I think there's enough ideas to keep me going for a few birthdays and also a few Christmasses!!

I've obvs been living in a bubble and am enlightened to learn there is life outside of L'Oréal and Sanctuary Spa 🤭

My birthday is on Wednesday....I will pop back and let you know what I get!!

Thank you for the birthday greetings 😊

Be aware that perfumes and fragrances in skin care products are not good for your skin.

"The Ordinary" skin care products are good.

Olaplex is amazing for hair (especially older hair). It’s expensive, but you use so little it lasts for ages.

whatausername · 26/07/2023 16:55

@CanIbeRio Happy Birthday! Did you get a little luxury then? :-)

CanIbeRio · 27/07/2023 19:43

@whatausername thanks for the birthday greetings!
There were loads of lovely suggestions and i asked for a few of the things from the front end of the thread (the latter suggestions were a bit late to ask for)
I received a Rituals foam shower gel which is gorgeous....lovely fragrance and very soft like showering in cream. I also had the vanilla lip mask which is lovely. I had some money so will be treating myself to some of the other things!
