Do people on here make you feel inferior?

With their strong opinions, knowledgeable comments on things like politics and the economy, successful careers and seemingly "high end" lives? I'm not saying there's anything wrong with it (and I know there'll be the odd bullshitter too) but does anyone ever read people on here and just feel a bit, well... shit?

Disclaimer: I know fuck all about politics!

No, it's a great place to learn and discuss, certainly don't feel inferior.

AndTheSurveySays · 20/07/2023 22:40

No. I enjoy learning new things and the insights other people give.

Do you have self esteem issues?

MrsBennetsPoorNerves · 20/07/2023 22:41

No, not at all. If I come across someone who knows more than I do about a given topic, then I see it as a great chance to learn more.

Why do you know fuck all about politics? Is it that you're not interested? If you want to know more, you can learn!!

WandaWonder · 20/07/2023 22:42

No because I am me and don't spend my live overthinking and waste time worrying about what other people think, I am happy to discuss topics but I don't do this angst thing if I don't know something I don't know it and am fine with that

OneMoreCookieMonster · 20/07/2023 22:43

I wouldn't say it makes me feel inferior but have on occasion felt like I should have may be made better life choices but who can say if they would have been the right choice. I also do think there's alot of bullshitting and also I feel that there's several who down play on their circumstances for various reasons.

Sweetashunni · 20/07/2023 22:43

No. However I think there are some posters desperate to show off and have that impact on others. Thankfully few and far between.

cactusjane · 20/07/2023 22:43

Sometimes but that's because some (not all) people on here thrive from trying to make others feel inferior. There's a lot of people who talk shit to appear superior.

gooseduckchicken · 20/07/2023 22:43

I only believe about 5% of what I read on here. Take it as entertainment, not real life.

Whattodowithit88 · 20/07/2023 22:44

No. People here are clever than I am, but so what, there’s always someone smarter, richer, nicer, prettier. I don’t let it get me down, it’s just normal life isn’t it?

Aquamarine1029 · 20/07/2023 22:46

No. It makes very happy to "see" so many intelligent, eloquent, and self-assured women coming together to share opinions and ideas.

Screamingabdabz · 20/07/2023 22:46

How old are you op? I felt like the same in my 20s, but now I’m a lot older I’ve found that not only did I gain in wisdom, I also gained the benefit of not caring a fuck what other people think or do. Don’t worry - you’ll get there!

Mindovermatter247 · 20/07/2023 22:46

I don’t feel inferior, I find some posters condescending, some funny… but that’s just life… some people think they are head and shoulders above the rest… it’s just the world we live in….

Bringonthesunforthewashing · 20/07/2023 22:46

At times yes.

Mostly that we tend to eat a whole chicken for one meal. Hanging the washing out the night before in good weather makes me feel shit too.

Not to forget we also have a McDonald’s once a week, kids don’t really play out and the tweens don’t have regular after school clubs…

vodkaredbullgirl · 20/07/2023 22:49

You learn something new every day on here.

TreesAreBloodyGreat · 20/07/2023 22:51

AndTheSurveySays · 20/07/2023 22:40

Tremendously and I'm not a bewildered twenty something. I'm almost 39!

PickAChew · 20/07/2023 22:53

There are many highly intelligent and knowledgeable women in here and also many bullshitters.

CallMeDiaz · 20/07/2023 22:56

What, strangers who are likely talking shit?

No 😆

calmcoco · 20/07/2023 22:58

Not inferior, no.

Sometimes I wouldn't mind being one of the 'tone deaf wealthy' MNers, the types who advise someone with serious money problems to consider cancelling the nanny's gym membership to save cash. It must be kind of easy to be both rich and dim enough not to register what normal life is like!

mdinbc · 20/07/2023 22:58

I'm not very opinionated on a lot of political discussions, firstly because I don't live in the UK, and secondly because it's just my personality to sit back and listen.

But I do enjoy a heated conversation on topical issues.

And as for the designer high life, I am not young, and realize that some people have more money, or like to spend more money on fashion, etc. It's like flipping through a magazine for me; I'm interested, but not buying.

Windercar · 20/07/2023 23:00

No. Surely you could learn about politics and stuff if you’re interested. If not, fine. But it’s not for others to dumb down!

Starseeking · 20/07/2023 23:01

Not at all. I enjoy learning about new things in the same way I like commenting about topics I'm knowledgeable about.

DojaPhat · 21/07/2023 00:03

No. Thing is it depends and certain threads will elicit certain responses. On a random thread about an esoteric topic say about how snails communicate I often get pulled in, in awe at some people's seemingly random yet expansive knowledge.

On all the 'how much would you say quantifies a high earner' threads you'll of course get loads of responses along the lines of £250k is barely enough to get to the end of the month let alone afford a weekly food shop and so forth. My favourite ones are those whose husbands earn an amount that could make Jeff Bezos appear to be among the 'squeezed middle' Grin

changeyerheadworzel · 21/07/2023 00:05

No clue about politics but in a way I wish I did.

Helpwhatwouldyoudonext · 21/07/2023 00:09

I use it precisely BECAUSE people on here know stuff I don't.
Today I learnt new facts bout dogs and also horses.
Every day is a school day - Mumsnet is like my very own curated encyclopedia and I can search for bits I want to read about - legal matters, good money deals, random things in Style and Beauty that make me roll my eyes, how to unclog my fridge drain, what the noise in my loft is, how to draw a parking diagram, how to only buy a flat or shared ownership as a last resort - there's so much!

I don't know much about politics at all it gos over my head.

But in general terms I see people thinking they are acknowledgeble and they say things like they are fact. When often then don't know what they are talking about .
