Renting a caravan cost

squigpopp · 20/07/2023 18:13

We've. Left it too late to get a 'proper' holiday sorted this year but we were thinking of renting a caravan, not sure if this is even possible. How much would it be to rent a caravan for a week in august? Anywhere in the country

If you mean a static in august. Anywhere from £350 to over 2k. All depends on site let or private let, location and facilities on site.

squigpopp · 20/07/2023 18:28

Yes a static is wjat I mean, couldn't think of what they were called. I'm hoping someone will come on and tell me a great site they know of for 2 kids 4 and 8

Please make sure the caravan owner is legit. Many scammers about. Check as much as you can.

£900 is my guess at the average cost. Northern is cheaper than southern as a general rule.

Lutheryou · 20/07/2023 18:39

I would try haven, you know you won’t get scammed/ripped off, the prices are cheap, the caravans are usually clean and well equipped and if anything is wrong they’re good at sorting it out, the parks are nice with usually lots to do. If you don’t drive there’s shops and takeaways and entertainment there and most (maybe all) of the supermarkets deliver directly to your caravan. If you do drive you can use it as a base to go and explore the area.

DyslexicPoster · 20/07/2023 18:40

Haven sites are always a safe bet. Depends how far your prepaired to travel. Weymouth is my favourite but its just far enough away from us. Another nice place is Woolacombe Bay. You can get little lodges or caravans

SummerHouse · 20/07/2023 18:42

Sorry it's £975 I was looking at the prices from....

YabbaDabbaDooooo · 20/07/2023 18:46

There are loads of caravans on Airbnb OP.

Might be an option if you find everything else booked up.

QueenofLouisiana · 20/07/2023 18:46

As a PP mentioned, you may find a cottage cheaper. I looked for the end of August in the New Forest and have gone with a cottage as it was £150 cheaper. (Same for Scotland in October)

I’m using Hoseasons and had reasonable choice when I booked at the start of this week (school holidays as we both teach).

RoseMartha · 20/07/2023 18:51

I put in last week of August for 2 adults and 2 children . See link for results. Prices vary greatly

trulyunruly01 · 20/07/2023 18:59

I found quite a few under £500 on Hoseasons, all either Scottish coast or Lancashire, week commencing 12 August.
You might get a short break even cheaper.
Don't put in a location, put your dates in and 2 adults, 3 children.

Nat6999 · 20/07/2023 19:17

If you want to go to Haven, look for a private rent on the site, you will often get a better grade caravan for lower grade money. I rented mine through a group on Facebook, got a platinum grade caravan for silver grade price.

OP if you don't mind mixing with people of mixed backgrounds.. I would definitely recommend Unity farm in Brean, you can upgrade to the lodges/premium caravans which are beautiful. There is so much to do for the kids too, funfair, amusements, swimming, soft play, entertainment bars, huge outdoor park, beach literally over the road and a short drive from Weston super mare town.
We took DS2yo this year and last and we love it there 😊

MyBrownEyedHandsomeBoy · 20/07/2023 19:34

Oh and there's a farm on the site aswell which you can visit with the kids

MargaretThursday · 20/07/2023 20:13

We go for a last minute one in Kent and normally get a big caravan, normally 8 berth, so the dc can have a bedroom each. We generally pay around £200-300 for a week.

What does this actually mean and why do you think the OP might mind?

buzzlightyearsgloves · 20/07/2023 23:13

I've just booked a last minute for next weekend 3 nights for 3 of us £500 in Yorkshire. Looks like there's lots to do on site

FindingTheFox · 20/07/2023 23:18

Combe Haven near Hastings is the nicest holiday park I've stayed at, and there's lots to do nearby (Battle Abbey with the audio guide is fantastic). Still availability for August, from about £800 for a week.

MyBrownEyedHandsomeBoy · 21/07/2023 06:59

@YabbaDabbaDooooo because it's MumsNet 😂

Surely not at this price in August??

Teapleasebobb · 21/07/2023 07:06

www.ukcaravans4hire.com. All owners are verified and have to pay to list their caravan on this site. Definitely don't book anything through FB!

Tey the YHA website. Youth hostels are a fantastic adventure for primary aged children. Family rooms can be a bit pricey in school holidays and by the coast, but surprisingly good value inland and can mix and match, a couple of nights in each to balance the cost. Most have great outdoor space, games rooms, board games, other children to play with. Usually in lovely locations to walk or explore right fom the door.
