What did you do with your engagement / wedding rings after divorce

Mine weren't particularly expensive. Just wondering what to do with them as definitely don't want to keep. Are they worth selling? What did you do with yours?

Unless it has a very large, good-quality stone, you won't recoup anything like the original price if you sell. Do you have children? You could have them remodelled into a piece for them, e.g. a pendant.

I do have sons, don't think they will be interested. I have received information from a postal company so will probably send them off and see what they are worth.

Sold the wedding ring to a webuyanygold type website- got about £7 quid. But felt better, a sense of relief, that it would be melted down. It was a pretty celtic one, but I felt it needed to be destroyed. My ring, my choice.

Engagement ring , gave to my daughter who lost it . Wedding ring sold it alongside other unworn gold jewellery.

Recently sold the wedding ring and some of the jewellery exh bought me (that I didn't like) I bought a new diamond ring with the money. Still have my engagement ring may sell that at some point or have it remodelled

TroysMammy · 24/07/2023 17:04

Gave it to my ex husband so he could sell. Not having his lazy, work shy arse to support anymore he needed the money more than I did. I don't know what he did with the £30 he got for my Ratners wedding ring, probably put it towards some cycling gear. Yes he had one of those outing hobbies.

Iwasafool · 24/07/2023 17:05

I sold mine and bought the kids some sports kit they needed.

AMuser · 24/07/2023 17:22

I wear my engagement ring on my right hand occasionally as I had it reset from a single princess cut solitaire (peak 2002 style engagement ring) into an art deco style with two extra diamonds either side. It’s really lovely and doesn’t look that engagementy. I only wear it when I’m not with my boyfriend tho.

My wedding ring is platinum but still not worth a great deal. I might keep both to give my kids.

effortlessio · 24/07/2023 17:47

I'm glad there appear to have been a few of us who have thrown them into deep water. But just me!

My wedding ring anyway, the engagement ring escaped.

LeapingMarmots · 02/08/2023 17:37

So I sent them off to one of those gold buying places. They offered about 25% of the original value which I accepted.

I gave the engagement ring to my teenage daughter (it was not valuable or flashy, unfortunately) and I had my eternity ring remodelled into a beautiful ring which I wear regularly. Might do the same with the wedding band and some other spare jewellery for daughters 21st. FYI I had quotes to redesign the eternity ring of £1200-1400.

Didn’t get engaged so no engagement ring. Threw wedding ring at ex as he left to be with his secretary, it bounced off his head leaving a stonking bruise! I guess it’s still in the front garden somewhere but the house was sold in the final settlement so I can’t retrieve it! Very happy in my new cottage but slightly regret my actions as wedding ring was a Cartier trinity and I’d happily wear it on my right hand now. Hey-ho, got rid of the useless waste of space so that’s the main thing Smile

Sophie89j · 22/07/2023 21:27

Sold mine on EBay, same with the wedding dress 😂

How much did you get compared with original cost?

Unexpectedlysinglemum · 02/08/2023 23:43

I took my first one back to the shop it was bought from and got 80% of the value back. My second one is in a drawer. I'm considering getting it made into necklace as it's beautiful and maybe saving it in case I have a granddaughter one day

neilyoungismyhero · 02/08/2023 23:43

We had been separated for a few weeks then found out that he'd been cheating for months so I threw them out of a moving car on the road to Reading. They flew into a ditch.

Unexpectedlysinglemum · 02/08/2023 23:43

@LeapingMarmots what is the postal company

Beaverbridge · 02/08/2023 23:51

Had them melted down along with his ring he left when he fecked off with OW. Had them made into a bangle with diamond inset into it.

sunshinesupermum · 03/08/2023 00:10

Have wedding ring to DD1 and engagement ring to DD2 then splashed out on a divorce ring for myself.

I didn't want to keep mine so I sold them (for way under their value but that's just how it is) and bought two nice practical everyday things that would make my life nicer.
