I’m getting so annoyed at subscribing to Netflix, Prime etc and never being able to find something to watch.

I have a few days off after a busy couple of weeks and I just want to binge some decent television and I just can’t find anything so looking for series that I might have missed…

I like quite dark plots with complex characters, enjoy learning more on historical crime cases though drama reconstructions…

Some if the series that I have enjoyed the most have been…

Craith/Hidden

The Red Riding trioligy

Manhunt

The Serpent

Snoanglar/Show Angels

Happy Valley

What have I missed that’s fallen through the cracks?

Top boy summerhouse, not historical but quite real. It was on C4 about 10 years ago and drake brought a new series back a few years ago. I think summerhouse is more realistic and shows nitty gritty of what life can be like in London for some.

Prison break season 1 and 2 are very good.

The missing series 2 is also good but very dark too.

Years and Years is excellent.

Ifyouwantmeillbeinthebar · 20/07/2023 19:20

Thanks everyone, some of these I have seen and totally should have added to my original list…

This is England, The Fall, Hinterland, Cracker & Maid we’re all excellent…

Will check out others suggested!

You've missed 'The Staircase' doc on Netflix, it's brilliant.

hohumpigsbum · 20/07/2023 19:35

Came here to say This is England.

One of my favourite films/TV shows but one scene (if you know you know) I sat for a good five minutes afterwards just in silence, not knowing how to process it.

Gonksmum · 20/07/2023 19:37

Deutschland 83 was brilliant and very gritty. I think it's on the Channel 4 app (Walter Presents).

IclimbedSnowdon · 20/07/2023 19:38

Just watched the 6th commandment on BBC1/iPlayer. True story 4 parter very good.
Also Behind Her Eyes on netflix is very good.

Nomoredamnmats · 20/07/2023 19:40

You beat me to The Sixth Commandment. Absolutely heartbreaking. Timothy Spall is outstanding.

Iamblossom · 20/07/2023 19:42

The Fall

Ifyouwantmeillbeinthebar · 20/07/2023 19:46

I also enjoyed Mindhunter and I may destroy you.

The 6th Commandment was ok…

The very first series of Prime Suspect and The Bridge.

DuesToTheDirt · 20/07/2023 19:52

Lost Girls (film on Netflix, based on a true story).

Years and Years is excellent.

Ah yes. And quite frightening - that could be us in 10 or 20 years...

The Wire

Yes. Watching how the kids turn out, and the hideous inevitability of it. They never stood a chance of getting out of that environment.

I watched it for the second time with my mixed race fiancé and I was a sobbing mess 🥺

Purrfecto · 20/07/2023 20:04

I’ve been recommended the Blacklist on Prime, supposed to be very good.

Sherlockspearls · 20/07/2023 20:08

Whitechapel & unforgotten.

QuacketyQuack · 20/07/2023 20:10

The wire is gritty and brilliantly written

isitaline97 · 20/07/2023 20:17

Have you watched line of duty? It's a proper edge of your seat police drama about corruption within the force, really good! I think it's on BBC iPlayer, probably Sky, maybe Netflix not sure.

FrogSplash · 20/07/2023 20:21

The Shield. There's loads of it to binge, it came out around the time of The Wire and for me was superior.

The final season is so dark, tightly plotted and well acted that I still think of it ten years after watching it but am traumatised by key moments of it that I have no intention of rewatching it despite its brilliance!

midsomermurderess · 20/07/2023 20:22

Spooks. The deep fat fryer. Once watched, never, ever forgotten.

I had to stop watching after that. That scene still pops into my head and makes me feel sick years later. I also had to give up on Red Riding, it really got to me.

NooNakedJacuzziness · 20/07/2023 20:42

The Night Of was really good
