The anti-Mandela effect - did everyone else realise Sean Connery died 3 years ago?

What? I had no idea. I did know about Connery.

I knew about Sean Connery.

I was a Mandela effect child though, I clearly remember him being dead, then he was released from jail ... I was really confused. I didn't realise this was a thing til I read it a few years ago on MN!

Rik Mayall is the one anti-Mandela effect celebrity that still gets me. I know he died but I somehow seem to forget as soon as I've checked. Even now I had to Google to make sure I hadn't made up his passing. I brought this up at my previous work once and more than one person was shocked to hear he'd died (several years before the conversation).

@AngeloMysterioso don’t know if this the Mandela effect but I always think Mother Theresa died on the same day as Diana but she obviously didn’t

I am south African and had never heard of the Mandela affect. Find it odd.

I always confuse him with Michael Caine and I think he is still alive if that makes sense

Michael Caine is 90 and still going strong. He's got a new film out soon (with Glenda Jackson, her last one obviously). And apparently has written a book too.

He lost brownie points with me when he advocated for an Independent Scotland whilst living in Australia (as other celebs do eg Brian Cox, Billy Connolly - if it's so great live there).

It was at a similar time whilst the nation was very much still in mourning for Diana which is why this is quite an understandable mis-memory.

I did know Sean Connery was dead.

My big mis-memory is over the timing of the twin towers collapsing, I could swear it was in the morning when I was driving to work, but as I live in the UK that's impossible so I must have been driving to an afternoon meeting.

She did die around the same time though

Oh heck!! They died about a week apart! Completely false memory. Also embarrassing because I told my A-level RE class they died on the same day last week and will have to tell them I was wrong

Oh, I'm not sure about Sean Connery. DP and I often see a celebrity on TV etc and say 'is s/he still alive' and have to google, which is then confirmed either way by whether it says is or was on their wikipedia page.

However, I read in the last couple of days that Emma Chambers who was in Vicar of Dibley and Notting Hill (you might not know the name, but likely recognise a photo of her) died in 2018, age 53 and was surprised by this as I had no idea.

I always forget Jeremy Beadle is dead

Oh my I had to check this for myself. I didn't realise Sean Connery died. I guess it was covid. How sad.

I always mix up Jeremy Beadle, Matthew Kelly and Rolf Harris

Everytime a celebrity of that age dies I have a moment of ‘thought they died years ago’. But I remembered Sean Connery had died.

I was completely oblivious to Roger Federer retiring from tennis. I’m your typical ‘2 weeks in July’ tennis fan not an avid follower but my husband was amazed when I asked him if he was injured and that’s why he was watching with Kate Middleton instead of playing.

I remember this the day of or day before the Oscars. He wasn't included in the people who died montage but they acknowledged it. Someone famous started crying, can't remember details but I think it was sudden. Loved him in Big love

He didn't die from Covid, he'd been unwell for a while, suffering from dementia and died from pneumonia.

I actually thought Michael Caine WAS dead......

@GalileoHumpkins I know he didn't die from covid I just meant covid may have overshadowed it. I asked my DH and he didn't realise either. I knew about Rik Mayall as I was a massive fan.
