No? I imagine there are a lot of people who aren't interested in a skin care regime or who don't need to moisturise because their skin isn't dry and looks fine as is and that's fortunate for them and completely fine - there are no rules.

I have no choice but to moisturise, I have super dry skin and if I didn't it would be incredibly sore. Ultimately a basic "skincare routine" - taking off makeup, washing my face, rubbing in a couple of products takes around the same time as brushing my teeth so it's hardly an imposition or a vanity. I know people that do it because they actively enjoy the process and the pampering aspect of it and that's fine too -I almost wish I did enjoy it as I think it sounds like a nice way to wind down of an evening or wake up in the morning.

bonfirebash · 18/07/2023 19:47

I do because I enjoy the routine, it's like a hobby for me and it's changed my skin

Babybabybabyy · 18/07/2023 19:49

I don’t do any of it either. Just make up wipes if I have make up on! I would like to see a comparison of what my face would look like if I had done all that 😂

I couldn’t just use wipes, does your face not feel manky after? They’re so bad for your skin and terrible at removing make up too. But if it’s what you’re used to and you’re happy with no skin issues, crack on.

hollyblueivy · 18/07/2023 19:52

Not weird but are you young and able to get away with it?

Laska2Meryls · 18/07/2023 19:54

Nor me, I am over 65 and never have...but then I have never worn make up either .. ( because I am lazy)

One thing my grandmother told me was just to wash using plain water and to never use soap or anything else on my face..
.
It could be genetics but I have quite honestly really , really good skin .. ( and I have certainly 'lived'.. smoked when young and still drink wine ... )

Laska2Meryls · 18/07/2023 19:56

I do use soap btw ! But never on my face and never have..

OMGitsnotgood · 18/07/2023 19:56

What age are you OP? I don't think you're weird, but unwise re no moisturiser. We had a debate about whether moisturiser was a waste of time with a group of friends (late 50s - early 60s) recently. I'm not being unkind, just stating a fact, when i say it was obvious who the regular moisturisers were and who not. But those who didn't use it still argued it wasn't worth it!

Arewehumanorarewecupboards · 18/07/2023 19:57

How old are you?

TorviShieldMaiden · 18/07/2023 20:00

I’m 42 and I’ve never done moisturiser or skin care. I wash my face in shower with water. I usually only wear mascara or eye liner, but even when I wear foundation I never take it off.

I have had bursts of buying stuff and trying to do it, but I get bored and end up not doing it after a few days.

I’ve always been told I’ve got nice skin.

cherriobigfella · 18/07/2023 20:01

I'm 40, no spots and great skin.

ZZTopGuitarSolo · 18/07/2023 20:03

I occasionally use a light moisturiser if my skin feels dry. Maybe every few days. I'm 54 and my skin looks fine.

My neck on the other hand is definitely showing signs of age. Perhaps there's some magic moisturiser that can fix it?

cocksstrideintheevening · 18/07/2023 20:05

Have you had any interaction with tweens / teens recently? Skincare is on the next level, they all literally glow. There's no crusty acne dried out by clearasil anymore.

If it's not for you it's not but I would spf as a bare minimum, especially with the
Rise in older people being diagnosed with skin cancer although the damage is probably already done.

kiwivick87 · 18/07/2023 20:09

I really regret not looking after my skin when I was younger! I am now really wrinkly and my skin makes me look older than 50s . My kids are so good with skincare ,drinking water etc

elodiedie · 18/07/2023 20:11

I don’t use anything. I don’t even take my makeup off at night. Just wash face with soap in the shower each morning. I don’t think I look great for my age but that could be the booze and grey hair.

BoobyDazzler · 18/07/2023 20:22

I wash my face with old school soap and occasionally moisturise with Nivea soft. If I wear make up I very rarely take it off before I sleep and if I do I do it with a hot soapy flannel. I also love a tan. I was told the other day that I have perfect skin and I also don’t have any wrinkles.

it’s pure luck in the genetics department.

moderndaywitch · 18/07/2023 20:24

I think it's important to wash the face properly for hygiene, the same as you would wash any part of your body. And sunscreen is sensible too for skin safety reasons.

Everything else... I'm not convinced.

RosaKim · 18/07/2023 20:27

I use moisturiser as my skin feels tight without it but mainly for the spf too. My skin has always looked fine tbh. I’m very sceptical about creams etc. - sun damage is one of the biggest dangers for ageing skin. I also look shite if I haven’t slept well. No dream will fix that.

if there was a genuine miracle cream that actually genuinely improved glow and texture I would use it but ive never seen one. Also my skin reacts to a lot of stuff so I stick to basic products with spf 30.

Oblomov23 · 18/07/2023 20:32

I only wash my face with water in the shower. I moisturise. That it.

TheCyclingGorilla · 18/07/2023 20:56

I have tried lots of moisturisers and not found one that hasn't affected my skin in some way. Usually it's spots, but sometimes redness. I gave up ages ago.

I was tempted by some "plumping" creams from but I just got spots.

I wash my face with a well-known "kind" brand of face wash or I attack with a face wipe. I feel cleaner with the wash and a flannel though. I steep the flannel under a hot tap and put it on my face to open the pores. Then I use the flash wash. Wipes are ok if I'm short of time.

I never wear make up so I don't have that to worry about.

Screamingabdabz · 18/07/2023 21:01

I too think it’s pure genetics. Moisturiser only affects the top surface cells - it can’t hold back the ultimate effects of gravity and age. Only surgery does that.

SmirnoffIceIsNice · 18/07/2023 21:05

I'll be 60 this year. I've not suffered spots since I left my teens and also never bothered with a skin care routine or moisturiser. I've no been lucky enough to look younger than my age but recently I've noticed my skin showing signs of age. If I could go back in time I'd start using a moisturiser regularly, not just on my face but body too.

itsmei · 18/07/2023 21:05

I've been doing a skin care regime for 20 years since my early teens and I think that my skin is better than my peers. It may be genetics but I'm glad I put the effort in.

SmirnoffIceIsNice · 18/07/2023 21:06

Should say "I've been lucky..."

Peony654 · 18/07/2023 21:06

Fine if you are happy! But I hope you wear SPF each day especially in the summer
