What age are you OP? I don't think you're weird, but unwise re no moisturiser. We had a debate about whether moisturiser was a waste of time with a group of friends (late 50s - early 60s) recently. I'm not being unkind, just stating a fact, when i say it was obvious who the regular moisturisers were and who not. But those who didn't use it still argued it wasn't worth it!

but you are moisutising dead skin which is going to come off in the next few days anyway.

You might think it was "obvious" who used moisturiser and who didn't, but what you really mean is you (think) you could tell who had used it that day. Because one day later it makes no difference if you have used it daily for 60 years or never touched it

TorviShieldMaiden · 18/07/2023 21:14

I do wear sun cream as I have pale skin. But I hate the feel of creams in my skin. I only wear sun cream because I have to, but I hate the feel of it. Same with body moisturiser

I don't agree but not much point in arguing! We see each other regularly and those who have used moisturiser since we were teens have much more youthful skin than those who have never or rarely use it

I think good skin is often down to genes and good diet. I just wash my face with a bar of cheap soap and don't put moisturiser on unless it's really sunny then I use one with SPF in. I'm 48 and have to say I have good skin! I think it's genetic as my mum has really good skin.

ThunderSocks · 18/07/2023 21:48

I'm around the same age as you OP, have used moisturiser every day since my teens, always take make up off and wash my face at night and wear spf 50 everyday. I'm afraid my skin looks worse than most of my friends - I've a lot more fine lines and wrinkles. To be fair, I don't know what their skincare routines are like (maybe they're keeping quiet about some magical super-youth cream??), but I think a lot of it is down to genetics (and sleep)

This is literally my problem, I hate the sticky feel on my skin. I also find it all
Such a faff that I don't have time
For lol

I don’t use anything other than soap, and factor 50 suncream on sunny days or if I’m outside for a long time. But I don’t have dry skin (I did for a bit some years ago and obviously used moisturiser then), so my skin naturally produces oil - self-moisturising!
Also I’ve never worn foundation, which I imagine can create skin problems which you then have to buy more products to fix.

cherriobigfella · 18/07/2023 21:53

My mum also has great skin and she's late 70s. My MIL is 60 and is full of wrinkles

If you want sun protection without cream by the way, a proper sun hat with a big brim all round is great. I feel smug in mine on hot sunny days. Only problem is I haven’t quite got to the point of not being self conscious in it if it’s one of those mixed weather not properly hot days.

DappledThings · 18/07/2023 22:05

Don't moisturise, don't wear make-up, only use suncream when it's hot, definitely not year round.

Can you tel like a PP says? No idea. I'm 44. Suspect my skin looks around that old. Don't think it looks older, can't see the point in trying to make it look younger.

That literally makes not one iota of sense. That is like saying

those who have used shoe polish since we were teens have much more shiny shoes than those who have never or rarely use it.

The skin they moisturised in their teens no longer exists. The skin they moisturised in their twenties and thirties and forties no longer exists. The skin they moisturised last year, or last month of last week no longer exists.

So how could it make any more difference than polishing the shoes you wore last year makes to the shoes you are wearing today?

It doesn't. It is entirely in your imagination, you are a victim of advertising.

LadyJ2023 · 18/07/2023 22:08

Me neither

bryceQ · 18/07/2023 22:09

It's up to you.... It's not weird. Some people exercise some don't. Some get 8 hours sleep some don't 🤷‍♀️

I love doing my skincare, it's lovely at the end of the day. I cleanse with oil, serum then moisturise and my skin is always glowing. A wipe would be really unsatisfying for me plus it doesn't remove Spf at all so my skin would end up clogged.

WandaWonder · 18/07/2023 22:11

No idea I don't do it either nor wear make-up but no idea if weird or not it just is

Haveallthesongsbeenwritten · 18/07/2023 22:12

bonfirebash · 18/07/2023 19:47

I do because I enjoy the routine, it's like a hobby for me and it's changed my skin

Same!! Love having a skincare routine!

Hellokittymania · 18/07/2023 22:14

Same here, never really been interested and never really had a need for it either. I don’t wear make up, and I have young skin I’ve been told. I am visually impaired, so can’t really get a good look at other peoples skin, but I’m happy the way I am. Very occasionally I will have a spa night or some thing and put one of those masks, but it’s once every couple of years.

I think it's important to wash the face properly for hygiene, the same as you would wash any part of your body. And sunscreen is sensible too for skin safety reasons.

Everything else... I'm not convinced.

As an aside, why is it important to wash your face for hygiene? Hands, yes but face?

AnotherTownAnotherTrain · 18/07/2023 22:27

I cleanse but don't moisturise. I have PCOS and the ridiculously oily acne prone skin that goes with it.

I'm glad someone asked that. My face gets wet in the shower but I don't otherwise wash it. I don't think that's particularly unhygienic.

AnotherTownAnotherTrain · 18/07/2023 22:30

That said, I did used to have a really nice oil control moisturiser and it worked well, but it was expensive for my small budget. Cost of living means I have had to skimp on a few things. Much of my beauty budget goes on hair removal (P COS again!) And the hair on my head which is curly and wild and takes a bit of maintenance.

CatNeedsFed · 18/07/2023 22:33

I wash my face in the morning with a facial wash and I do moisturise (and use a serum) because my skin feels tight and dry after washing (an age thing these days) and I like to be wearing an SPF. Nothing expensive, currently using Lidl own make!

Never cleansed or toned beyond using Clearasil as a teenager.

I don't do anything at night, mainly because I can't be bothered and having trouble sleeping atm so loathe to risk waking myself up at that point.

maximist · 18/07/2023 22:39

I'm 53, I very seldom wear any sort of make up, and wash my face with facial soap in the shower most mornings. That's it. If I do use moisturiser I pretty much always come out in spots a few days later. My skin is mostly clear and wrinkle-free.

TheChosenTwo · 18/07/2023 22:45

I had really beautiful skin a few years ago and other than washing with water in the shower did nothing else to it, didn’t wear makeup, didn’t do skincare of any description.
then had an accident and ended up on loads of tablets and housebound for 5 months and I looked like death. Saw my face in the mirror and I looked so grey and sallow and just awful (looking back it’s not surprising but it was shocking at the time). Started using lots of things on my face, totally fucked my skin up and for the next 3 years or so my skin looked the worse it had ever looked. Have finely tuned what I was using and it’s now back to looking fine and I really do enjoy the process of looking after my skin now but I wish I’d never started.
My moral of this story would be - if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it!!

MenoRageisReal · 18/07/2023 22:45

@orangeleavesinautumn Grin omg you are so wrong 🤣

Pinkneonballoon · 18/07/2023 23:14

You aren't cleaning your skin properly with just a wipe. But otherwise do whatever works for you.
