Argos returns

I bought an iPad from Argos in may, it will no longer charge (yes I’ve obviously tried numerous different chargers) I’ve tried cleaning the port but it still won’t charge. I called Argos who wouldn’t help and said I needed to contact the manufacturer but the nearest apple store to me is well over an hour away. I’ve spoken to a few people and they’ve told me my contract is with Argos not with the manufacturer as it’s only 2 months old. Does anyone know where I stand or who should be helping?

Book an appointment with apple, they can fix it there and then if it's simple.
Argos may have to send it away for repair, they obviously can't swap ipads with minor faults for brand news ones each time especially as its not an obvious fault such as a missing part or poor stitching and could easily be misuse or damage of the product.

Your contact is with Argos but they are allowed to point you to Apple for a repair.

@jigslaw agreed, but as OP says they rely on it and I’m assuming can’t or won’t be in a position to buy a spare then it seems inconvenient at best. I appreciate stores probably have to beware of scammers trying it on but this doesn’t help OP.

You seem to be misunderstanding what the sellers need to do. Absolutely they have to make it right and as said, in the case of Apple products, it’s much easier to send it to them or take it to them directly. IF for any reason they couldn’t fix it and it wasn’t caused by damage then Argos would be the ones to replace or refund the OP.

The fact that the OP hasn’t got a substitute while it’s being sorted is irrelevant to the situation, as harsh as that sounds. That’s not the responsibility of Argos.

Hey, here is some guidance for you in the future...

If the product develops a fault within the first 30 days, you are entitled to a full refund from the retailer. Without much questioning.

After 30 days you product develops a fault, you should return to the store to request a refund or an exchange. However, they do have the right to attempt a repair an item in the first instance. I would strongly advise that the repair is booked by the retailer rather than doing it yourself, just to avoid any issues.

If after the repair attempt fails, they may convivence you to try again. However, after one failed repair attempt it is your right to request a refund or replacement item.

Argos is very bad for returns and I had an experience with them recently. After a failed repair attempt I requested a refund and the store and regional manager refused, saying they are entitled to continually send it off for repair. To resolve this and claim my refund as stipulated within consumer law, I had to escalate this to central argos management who forced the store manager to issue me with a refund.

Do not ever blind faith follow what a store tells you are your consumer rights. They will play every trick in the book took keep the store balance sheet 'good' so they appear high performing to management.
