Red light disaster in london

Kay1006 · 15/07/2023 08:28

The lights for the pedestrian crossing should have been shaded so only cars close could see them but they weren't so from across the junction I thought they were controlling the traffic I was in. The crossing was only a few metres down the road straight ahead of me.

I am tensed what will be the outcome? This is my first mistake

Was a camera?

orangeleavesinautumn · 15/07/2023 08:30

was there a collision?

DappledThings · 15/07/2023 08:32

Going to need a bit more detail to make any sense of this.

Freysimo · 15/07/2023 08:39

Disappointed to read thread is about traffic lights. Thought you were posting about red light districts in London!

Singleandproud · 15/07/2023 08:42

It doesn't sound like a disaster if nobody was hurt, dont be overly dramatic.
It sounds like you stopped longer than you were meant to because you thought the red light was for you, that's daft but I don't think you get penalised for that, if you ran the red light then you will if there was a camera.

User10486743 · 15/07/2023 08:42

Was there a camera, you can check online for traffic light cameras, if not and no accident, I would not worry but it will make you think more next time.

Singleandproud · 15/07/2023 08:43

Sorry I misread I thought you said the red light was controlling your traffic. Either way its done now so no point in worrying about it.

User10486743 · 15/07/2023 08:44

Did you stop too long on the supposed red, if you did you would have just been an annoyance, if you ran the red, check for cameras

Changingplace · 15/07/2023 08:47

What actually happened? Did you stop when you weren’t supposed to or run a red light? Your OP is virtually impossible to make any sense of whatsoever.

Itwasrare · 15/07/2023 08:50

She’s not being “overly dramatic”, you can get 6 points and £1000+ for a red light offence. OP I had a similar situation where the road markings were very confusing, and nothing came of it. There was even a camera there but I think it was blocked by a huge lorry. Fingers crossed it’s same for you and you won’t be caught.

Madmoomoo · 15/07/2023 08:50

I think this has been written by a translator app surely! ‘I am tensed’ ?!

fuckmyuteruslining · 15/07/2023 08:51

I believe it's £100 and 3 points or possibly a course. So no drama. Most of the population gets at least one of that sort of penalty in their driving career. Breathe and learn from it.

topnoddy · 15/07/2023 08:57

Not even half the story here is there .
The lights were red , and .......................

Singleandproud · 15/07/2023 09:12

@Itwasrare she is being overly dramatic, even in a CoL crisis a red light disaster isn't a £100 fine and some points, it would be a road traffic collision and fatalities/life changing injuries.

Dotcheck · 15/07/2023 09:16

So you were looking at the wrong lights?
Pedestrian lights are not always shaded so please don’t blame the lights. You made a mistake, but it will probably be ok- people run red lights all the time

Saschka · 15/07/2023 09:25

OP, this post makes no sense.

  • did you actually hit anything? Car or person?
  • was your light green but you thought it was red, or red but you thought it was green?

Big difference between running a red light and hitting a child, and getting beeped for sitting at a green light when it’s changed. Nobody has any idea which of the two you are upset about.

Itwasrare · 15/07/2023 09:33

@Singleandproud have never been involved in causing a fatality on the road so don’t think I’d be posting about it (god forbid) particularly calling it a “red light disaster”. But thinking you’ve got 6 points and a massive fine is pretty stressful for the average law abiding driver if it’s your first infraction.

I don’t think you generally get 6 points and a fine for going through a red light, unless you’ve hit somebody?

Certainly enough people do it around here, there’s a reasonable chance nothing will happen at all.

Itwasrare · 15/07/2023 09:48

A few years ago they changed it and it depends on how much time elapsed since the light changed. So if it changed as you overran you would get a lower penalty.

When I did this I was worried as my confusion (mine was a filter lane and a second set of lights like OP is describing) meant the light had definitely turned red a few seconds before which attracts the most serious penalties. I guess I replied to say I had been in a similar situation and it was pretty stressful when I realised there was a camera, although mine turned out ok.

Itwasrare · 15/07/2023 09:49

Although people seem to find the thread suspicious, not sure it’s worth expending any more energy!

Kay1006 · 15/07/2023 09:51

There was a speed camera but not sure if it took both speed and red light. No collision or any other issue. I moved very slowly without realizing it’s not for me!

either is wasn't recorded and you've got away with it, or it was recorded, and you will get fined. Possibly a court summons, but you don't need to go, just plead guilty remotely and take the fine

Saschka · 15/07/2023 09:53

Probably nothing will happen at all, and if it does, the worst case scenario will be some points and a fine. Nobody has died. You aren’t going to lose your licence or go to prison.
