I’ve got another 2hrs of train journey returning home from an overnight works trip away last night. I’m tired from meetings and travel today and I’m bothered that I didn’t have longer to myself. I’m noticing how much I enjoyed doing my own thing so many hundreds of miles away from home.

I’m thinking I need to do this away from home thing at least 2 times per month from now on.

And that I am really still very sad. Not depressed just sad.

What you doing and what’s on your mind.

I am at work. I'm here till 7.45. Eating a ready made porridge pot from Morrisons. Kids are out with dad at a local festival. But I am thinking about my dad who is ill in hospital and not sure of what if any treatment they will recommend

cocksstrideintheevening · 14/07/2023 18:08

Having a gin and tonic and hoping the rain stops so I can walk ddog. He apparently can't go outside when it's raining 🤦🏻‍♀️

Nofreshstarthere22 · 14/07/2023 18:09

I’m lying down and planning an early night. Its been a long and stressful day.

thistimelastweek · 14/07/2023 18:09

Grandchildren not long gone and it's husband's turn to cook

So I'm sitting back with a big glass of wine

Needanewnamebeingwatched · 14/07/2023 18:10

Having a dinner party for 10, but just found out two more people have been invited without our knowledge.

We've had to find two more chairs, and table settings, thank fuck we have enough food...

My day off today (working tomorrow), long telephone chat over a cofffee with an old school friend .. we got into the habit of doing that during lockdown and have just carried on. Then shopping as my DS has invited two mates for the weekend, they live the other side of the country and it will take at last 5 hours ... all to see a cricket match which will probably be rained off. Bumped into a friend whose DH has sadly died very recently.. she was surprisingly upbeat and agreed to meet up properly for a meal next week. Home to prep the beds and BBQ (of course it's raining now ... ). Lying on my bed finally relaxing before the guests arrive, can't even have a glass of wine as I offered to drive them all to the pub later Grin.

MrsJBaptiste · 14/07/2023 18:14

Glass of wine on the go, all dressed up just waiting for DH to get home before we head into town for (too many!) drinks then a takeaway when we get home (too late!)

Got to love the fact the kids are older and can fend for themselves!

DaisyUpsy · 14/07/2023 18:17

Waiting to go to Pizza Hut for my child's birthday tea at their request and trying not to cry at their ridiculous ott prices.

ArcticBells · 14/07/2023 18:22

Pouring with rain. Starting watching Maryland this evening.

onwardandupwards · 14/07/2023 18:23

Hiding from my kids ( playing hide and seek) whilst secretly eating a blondie I bought earlier, after we are having a carpet picnic for tea whilst watching moana for the 3rd time today.

frozendaisy · 14/07/2023 18:26

Having a cold cider in between laundry loads, out from dawn til dusk Sat/Sunday so no time to wash anything over weekend. Half prepped pizza.

Just wondering whether home made toffee popcorn (making for the first time) is a step too far this evening. Think it best not to rush these decisions will finish the cider first, hang out first load of cleans, see if I am veering towards a popcorn decision after that!

Kids on new online games, H working in office, Friday radio 4 on, grey and wet, think the weather gods have forgotten erm hello it's July......July.........

changer121 · 14/07/2023 18:32

@Needanewnamebeingwatched

How does that even happen?
Hope it goes well

Time40 · 14/07/2023 18:32

I've just returned from outdoor swimming in the rain, consumed cake, drunk tea, and now I'm about to loll around in the bath for ages, reading a novel.

Time40 · 14/07/2023 18:33

... oh, I meant to ask, why are you sad, OP?

TheTurn0fTheScrew · 14/07/2023 18:34

Sprained my ankle last Saturday. Have hobbled through work this week, planning to spend the weekend with my feet quite literally up, watching the tennis, the Proms, and eating my own body weight in cheese and crackers.

TribeD · 14/07/2023 18:36

Made a chili earlier so looking forward to that in a little while. DH still at work, DD curled up next to me, DDog snoring at my feet. I might have a glass of wine now that you've mentioned it....

JamSandle · 14/07/2023 18:37

Finished work and meeting a friend and her kids later. She will come to mine and I'll make (in the loosest sense of the word) us some pizzas and put a film on.

Ilovelurchers · 14/07/2023 18:39

My daughter is on the way to France with her dad and his partner and all her kids.....

My husband and I had a curry from Sainsbury's. It was quite nice. We are now reading with the tennis on. Will probably go to bed soon, read some more and hopefully have loads of sex!

Neverknowinglysensible · 14/07/2023 18:51

It’s finally stopped raining here and the sun’s come out. Just opened front door, back door and patio door to prove to two bad tempered cats that it’s windy outside everywhere.
Husband is off work sick, so I cancelled my plans for today and forced myself to do the ironing, and then checked dates, emptied and cleaned my very overstocked spice racks and cupboard. Some of them were dated 2017.
Made a will soon be broken resolution not to be tempted by all the weird and wonderful spices in the Indian supermarket again , and am now sitting down with a glass of wine and planning a picky tea for me, as husband is too ill to eat.

Ihateboris · 14/07/2023 18:53

Watching The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, drinking wine, eating halloumi fries, and scrolling mumsnet.

PepsiMaxLime · 14/07/2023 18:56

Feeding my 3 day old :)

twistyizzy · 14/07/2023 18:57
