Woman, 68, suffers potentially life-changing injuries in dog attack in Worcester

"A 68-year-old woman has suffered potentially life-changing injuries in a dog attack in Worcester this morning.

Three people were injured after the incident at a house on Boughton Avenue.

The 68-year-old woman was taken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham, while a 38-year-old man was taken to Worcester Royal Hospital, with injuries which are not life-threatening."

Two men were injured, one elderly woman was in critical condition upon entry to hospital (now stable).

Glad it was the owners, not innocent people.

Surely the government needs to step in and completely ban dogs capable of doing such damage? I feel I can't let my children walk around outside by themselves, in case one of these bloodsport breeds is out. No leash will hold them. I know I couldn't fight one off either, but at least if I was around my children and there was only one dog, they'd have a chance to escape.

They haven't released the breed, but I think we all know what type of dog it will be.

There's a second attack by dog of a nine year old boy, same day, also Worcester. Leg injuries described as serious. Poor child.

We are beyond help as a species when we allow this to happen to us.

Portefields Road, Worcester

Boy seriously injured during dog attack in Worcester

It happened on the same day as a separate dog attack in Worcester which left three adults hurt.

I think you do right to stay indoors and keep your family safe.

There were 49,265 knife attacks last year. With that, sexual assualt, RTAs, shootings, muggings, and now these devil dogs adding almost 0.5 per week to the death toll, best stay home, stay safe!

Theunamedcat · 13/07/2023 21:10

An xl bully is on the run somewhere between Droitwich (near Worcester) and kidderminster hopefully will be caught without incident

TheGirlWhoLived · 13/07/2023 21:15

I completely agree with what you are saying. I live in Worcester and those two areas are known for being really grotty (ronkswood and dines green) so I do think the stigma around less intelligent people owning these muscle dogs as a status symbol is in fact true.

Prescottdanni123 · 13/07/2023 21:19

A lot of these dogs are abused by the fuckwits wanting an aggressive accessory to make them look 'hard' or they suffer neglect from the hapless fuckwit dog owners who buy them off gumtree.

The ones who are treated well but are still agreeing is because their ancestors were bred for aggression by yet more fuckwit humans.

Prescottdanni123 · 13/07/2023 21:20

*aggressive

Yes but i feel confident that I could get most small dogs off a child even if I sustained injuries in the process. The bigger dogs with the v powerful jaws, there's no way I could prise them off.

I think we’ve all got a fair idea what kind of dog is going to bite and cause a huge amount of damage. The stats are out there if you’re not sure.

Newdoggo · 13/07/2023 21:33

I was bitten by a Jack Russell when I was a child, still have the scar on my face

Missingmyusername · 13/07/2023 21:35

NoSquirrels · 13/07/2023 17:14

I do not disagree that there is an issue with dumb idiots (predominantly men) who own these types of ‘tough guy’ breeds and either actively abuse them or just neglect them/treat them poorly/do not understand dog behaviour, leading to tragic outcomes.

But if it makes you anxious to the point of distress and not wanting to let your children experience the world, then you need to think that your risk-assessment has gone a bit off-kilter and seek to address your anxiety.

^ This.

Apologies, my last post quoted the wrong person

lotsofdogshere · 13/07/2023 21:42

I’ve owned 12 dogs and fostered several. I currently share my life with a boisterous young lab and a very sweet, gentle spaniel. I’ve lived in the same area over 50 years. I no longer walk on our lovely park or other open spaces. We have too many ‘professional dog walkers’ with packs of 7 or 8. There’s a big estate nearby where xl bully breeds and bull breed crosses are the dogs of choice. They’re often seen locally straining on extendable leads, with young men the end of the lead, no idea how to manage much less train these huge powerful dogs
i know the dangerous dogs act isn’t problem free but these xl bullies need adding. Puppy farms/back street unregistered dealers charging £5000 for these xl. They clip their ears- illegal in the uk.
the govt needs to invest in attempts to control dog breeding. I don’t know how to enforce it, other than by investing public money but - some people aren’t capable of looking after these xl bullies, I’d ban the breed

And you survived. Had it been an XL you probably wouldn't have.

OldBeller · 13/07/2023 17:08

You don't know what kind of a dog is going to bite, ultimately. A little dog can do a huge amount of damage to a young child.

Probably won't kill them though.

stbrandonsboat · 13/07/2023 23:36

There was one of those monstrosities in the vets the other day. The stupid woman could barely keep hold of it. And she was wearing pyjama bottoms 🙄

At the pet food outlet centre there was a couple who were trying desperately to control their two monstrosities - an intact male and a female, so no doubt used for breeding.

At least you still have a face.

Sorry, that's sounds really harsh. People need to know the reality though.

I'm sorry you were attacked.

NoSquirrels · 14/07/2023 09:23

DuckIings · 13/07/2023 17:45

Are you not paying attention to the number of dog attacks recently?
I'm being vigilant. I don't have undue anxiety. We should be anxious about the rise in bully -type dogs, and irresponsible owners.

I disagree. Quite strongly, in fact. But then I don’t live near you (I assume) as my local vicinity is not overrun by XL pitbull types. So perhaps your (to me, extreme) anxiety is justified, who knows.

I have a medium-large dog. She’s well trained and gentle. As is inevitable, we do encounter poorly trained dogs (and theor useless owners) out and about, and out of those encounters a couple will be a bit more frightening than just annoying, but I rarely see uncontrolled pit bull breeds running free and likely to savage my children where I walk my dog. I’ve honestly never worried about this.

For the sake of your dog, you really ought to pay more attention. This explosion of XL bully breeds and pitbulls by any name they can think of to get round the ban needs to be curtailed asap. Normal dogs AND HUMANS are at great risk otherwise.

All sorts of useful things would be banned on OP's criteria. Bulls. Cars. Trains. social media. paracetamol. stairs. knives. Bicycles, for sure!!

Pitbulls and their fellow bloodsport relatives aren't useful though.

Bulls???

lljkk · 14/07/2023 22:00

Bulls can be pretty difficult animals to manage. Rams and billy goats, too.
Do you not listen to the archers?

I have met some lovely pet soppy harmless pitbulls (am foreign). Pitbulls can be great companion animals.

RoyalImpatience · 14/07/2023 22:17

Oh come on...

Any dog including the pit bull will be for someone a beloved pet whom is good for them..
Still no chicuaa has killed it's owner. Plenty of xl bullies have killed their owner.

How do you Know

Missingmyusername · 15/07/2023 05:04

“Pitbulls and their fellow bloodsport relatives aren't useful though.” Hope your including the majority of the human race in that criteria. We are probably the most cruel and destructive of all creatures.

“Puppy farms/back street unregistered dealers charging £5000 for these xl.” 🤣£5k?! you’re having a laugh there- be lucky to get £300. Shelters are full of them, some are puppies.

God knows where you live that you see all these uncontrolled, free running dogs OP- if it’s as bad as you say, if your as anxious in real life as you come across on here I’d move for your own sanity.

nobodysdaughternow · 15/07/2023 07:18

Some of you are deliberately side-stepping the point. I suspect you live in upmarket areas, packed with dopey labs and biddable but mad spaniels.

Once you have seen an xl bully being walked by someone who is an addict and lacks muscle tone and clarity to hang into a lead, you will worry.

Children who live in these areas may well accept an invite home from their school friend, only to meet the family's xl bully.

OP is worried for good reason. It's a shame so many with no lived experience insist on being middle class twats about it.
