I think that bristol one might be a repo. I always think that when they've not tidied up its probably because selling wasn't up to them.

I don't know if it's because I'm getting older and less inclined to stuff but honestly a bedsit in a naice place seems like a lovely way to live if your single with no dependants. Small space to clean Having to be clever with furniture and live simply. With all the museums and culture London can offer thrown in.

megletthesecond · 11/07/2023 08:06

If you need to stay in central London for work regularly it's quite good value. At least you can cook and save money on eating out.

WhiteFire · 11/07/2023 07:33

It's basically an expensive hotel room, it will appeal to the market who need a bed space to sleep in during the week and is cheaper and easier then living out of a hotel room.

There's a market for this type of let.

Yep, all those people who moved to the sticks during lockdown and have now been told they have to be in the office three days a week!

willWillSmithsmith · 11/07/2023 08:22

Is it a bedroom with a kitchen in it or a kitchen with a bed in it? The only use I can see for it where the occupant wouldn’t go stir crazy is a well paid professional who just needs a bed while working away from home. Probably getting an expenses allowance from work so it doesn’t sting too much.

There are some great YouTube videos on how to style tiny living spaces. Once everyone has left home I’d like to live in a much smaller property and do it out nicely but simply and have money to spend on doing things rather than having things.

It’s a bedsit in a basement…

Yes. It's better than some I have lived in though.

ButImNotOldEnough · 11/07/2023 08:35

Looks like nothing more fancy than a bedsit. Greedy landlords.

That’s a bit rude to supermarket checkout staff?

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 11/07/2023 08:54

It would once have been called a pied a terre, but still small even for that. As pps have said, there is a market for this sort of thing, and the area is hideously expensive.

Someone said ‘bedsit’ which were once common, but you invariably shared a bathroom, while having your own basic cooking facilities. And they were usually grotty, no central heating, you put coins in a slot for a gas fire. Dh lived in one when we first met as students - his cost 32/6d a week - £1.62. 😱.
But this was back in the Very Dark Ages and Up North, London would have cost considerably more.

Rude.

My first thought was tenants losing their home.

Hellomaisie · 11/07/2023 09:11

My first flat was 300sq ft! A whole third bigger!

I think that bed should be a wall bed though. Much better use of space!

TerrifiedandWorried · 11/07/2023 07:54

That’s crazy!! I’m surprised the estate agent didn’t advise them to declutter before taking the photos.

The problem is you'll have neither with that flat - it's so expensive. Appreciate that it's 'central' London but If you want museums and culture you'll be criss-crossing the city anyway.

I'm minimalist and grew up in overcrowded housing so the size wouldn't matter to me - the layout does. Even if you open the windows foods with strong odours like a curry will permeate everything...

I need at least a separate bedroom. To each their own though.

I wouldn’t want that particular abode central London or not. It’s really just a place for someone to sleep or they’d go stir crazy. I’d say you can stay in that studio but to live in it would be hard going. If I had that kind of money to spend on rent I’d rather live out of London and travel in. There’s small and minimalist and then there’s hovel.

WhiteFire · 11/07/2023 10:09

Some posters are viewing this totally wrong, it is not a flat to live in, it is a flat to sleep in and get washed and changed for the next 12+ hour day in the office and then return home outside the city at the weekends.

You won't be going to museums or cooking large meals.

mindutopia · 11/07/2023 10:19

Back in the naughties I was paying £1000 a month for an 'open plan' flat where I literally had a bath next to my bed - plus a 'toilet room' that was wallpapered with pages from High Times from the the 1970s. On one hand it was great because I could actually watch tv while having a shower - but a bit awkward if anyone came to stay.

EnthENd · 11/07/2023 10:27

Typical inner London rental. Nowhere near the worst I've seen.

It'll only get worse as long as our government continues the decades-long policies that are hostile to homebuilding.

PS: In my experience in the 90s "bedsit" was a common term for a flat with its own bathroom and kitchen and a single room for living and sleeping. (Whereas a "1 bedroom flat" meant a separate living room and bedroom.) "Studio" is new wording.

holy shit the classism. It's clearly someone untidy with kids, yes. The rest is your nasty projection. "Shuffling" fuck me. You clearly think supermarket staff are some kind of troglyodytes.

Spottybikehelmet · 11/07/2023 12:10

It’s also not Chelsea! And not really central London, it’s next to West Brompton tube, which is Zone 2.

TheIsaacs · 11/07/2023 12:20

It very clearly says studio at least twice in that listing. They aren’t trying to hide it. Bit hard to hide anything in there tbh.

snoopysaunt · 11/07/2023 12:24

My parents live in SW10. Bought their flat in 1969 and got married in the church opposite in 1977 with me as bridesmaid. Happy days, lovely place to grow up, so glad my not very rich parents decided to buy. We even had a little garden and a little park in the middle of the square. Now all their neighbours are Middle Eastern (not that its a problem, they're lovely) and flats are in short supply because most of them have been reverted to houses.
