Sofas on repayment plan

Hi I wasn't sure where to post this so I've ended up here. Please could I possibly not have any negative comments about my situation. Since my split from my husband I have been left with one sofa which is practically dead, its falling apart completely. I am now on benefits, I know how much money I could afford monthly but I don't have the money to pay outright for a new sofa. Does anyone know of any sofa companies that will let you buy one and put it on a payment plan. I know that a lot of companies might say no because I'm on benefits. I just wondered if anyone knows which companies I could try so as to not ruin my credit rating. I just want my home to be nice thanks in advance.

I think you'd struggle OP.

The prejudice with not lending to people on benefits is funny because work isn't a reliable source of income either, I was just made redundant this week with immediate effect. Whereas my UC is always paid on the same date every month without fail.

Out of work benefits are supposed to meet your basic living costs; while the UC may be paid regularly, without a back up source of income it generally isn't enough money for them to say 'yeah you have a decent, steady income'

It's not about being prejudiced against people on benefits, but unfortunately when someone has south a low income they are deemed a credit risk.

Nobody is handing out interred free loans to people with essentially no income. This is why places live brighthouse exist(ed), same with provident loans, they would lend to high risk clients but their interest rate was extortionate.

I’m sorry you have been put in a difficult situation.

I’m another in the camp of not getting into debt for furniture when there are so many possibilities on Freecycle/ FB marketplace/ Gumtree, etc, and which can be found on the internet. My only advice would be not to ask someone to deliver for free if they are giving away a sofa, as that does tend to get people’s backs up (according to many MN posts). Asking for someone separately to help you may be a better option.

Good luck!

Have a look at divide by.com, you can use their service to buy a sofa from wherever you like. I’ve got one from snug

It's not just about reliability of income, it's about the amount of money you have coming in too.

yes, i got 2 sofas from dfs on 0% interest over 4 years £20 per month. I have nearly finished paying for them, good luck.

Oh no I heard very bad reviews from people who brought DFS sofas 😢

Nousername4now · 08/07/2023 13:22

I'm sorry you going through hardship OP, however due to the fact you are on benefits I would advise you not to get anything on a payment plan... Try going on spock or gumtree you can get some really nice second hand sofas there

Nousername4now · 08/07/2023 13:23

Sorry it's spelt shpock

The DFS sofas purchased by my ex and I lasted less time than the finance agreement.

Look at charity shops, we donated our old (barely used) sofas to British heart foundation theres also one called Emmaus, or facebook market place.
