What sort of coat/ jacket can I wear to a wedding that isn't frumpy?

All the options in JL today looked like they were straight out of the 00s- cropped bolero jackets etc. I don't really like the double breasted blazers either.

I know I'm fussy!

What about a suede biker jacket? Maybe a bit too casual? Just thinking of something you could wear again!

A pashmina is never the answer. 😄

Couldn’t disagree more A pashmina never goes out of style and to wear a jacket over this dress, the OP will look more like she’s going to a job interview than a wedding!!

Poster said not frumpy. Nothing frumpier than a pashmina!

Nonsense! Don’t you get out much?!

Aren't you lovely.

ClaraBourne · 05/07/2023 09:03

Honestly, the sales are on and so many lovely things you could wear.

Like this dress.

Or this jacket with the dress you have, which I think is bit style free, sorry!

Yes, sorry. that wasn't very nice at all - bad morning. I've asked for it to be removed.

CreepingCrone · 05/07/2023 09:23

I love bright colours, so I'm wearing a bright pink leather jacket over a Cobalt blue Monsoon dress to my nephew's wedding 💜💙💜

Probably for the best…

White denim jacket

God no, white denim is awful.
Possibly worse than a pashmina but it's a close call.

Crikeyisthatthetime · 05/07/2023 14:44

That's a gracious apology, I was wondering if you hadn't had your coffee yet...

ForTheSnarkWasABoojumYouSee · 05/07/2023 18:12

Pashmina is practical but dated.
Brightly coloured blazer is current but the wrong proportions for that dress.
Denim or leather jacket are not wedding-appropriate
Tailored bolero jacket is a bit mother of the bride

I do think that a cropped Chanel-style tweed jacket - with or without buttons - is the only reasonable compromise between current and practical.

Frumpy is a misogynistic bullshit word.

A pashmina is a classic and versatile item.

verabarbleen · 05/07/2023 19:00

I think all jackets tend to look frumpy with nice dresses! Except a denim jacket in a pretty day dress but that wouldn't be right for a wedding . So annoying!

I'd just brave the weather. You'll be fine after a couple of drinks 😉
