One of my friends calls her son “little Lord” .. makes me gag.

I’ve had two female friends called “kitty” and “Pooh bear” as nicknames.

gillefc82 · 02/07/2023 17:32

I call my DH “Poo”, mainly because he’s always on the toilet….😂

I overheard my DH friend on the phone to his wife of 10 years and said "okay babyy, do you need anything from the shoppies? When I get home I want lots of kissy kissies for Georgies."

All in a cutesey baby voice, I nearly threw up.

Oh god I couldn't be with a man that speaks like this! Major icky

OutsidInInsideOut · 02/07/2023 17:37

Does knob head count.
Or twat.

We both call each other that but only ever in a jokey way.

contrary13 · 02/07/2023 17:37

My Dad calls me 'Sweetpea' (allegedly after the baby in the Popeye cartoons) and 'Poppet'.

I am 47 years old.

I call my son '[name]-Beau' as a play on the 'Let It Go' song from 'Frozen' (which he was fucking obsessed with for about 5 years. He is 18... and hates it. Which is absolutely fine. Actually, that might be because when I want him to shift his arse and do something, I actually sing my version of the song including his name and why I want him out of bed and being useful... but it works!

All very cringe, though. Grin

Partner calls me Mutherr in a sarky tone sometimes or The Mamma. DDs call me Ma-ma or Muvv-ah if I'm being ott.

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 02/07/2023 17:37

Years ago man to his gf "baby bear" barf

NetballHoop · 02/07/2023 17:37

Many years ago we were invited to the house of one of DD's primary school friends. The husband called his wife Mumsie as in "Mumsie, come and listen to what NetballHoop did last week".

Investinavest · 02/07/2023 17:39

My DH calls me "Wife" and "Minge", and I call him some variations of his teenage nickname (linked to his surname). Otherwise we just say "lover".

Jennalong · 02/07/2023 17:41

I've called my dh fuckface ( affectionately) before .

RaraRachael · 02/07/2023 17:44

My ages MiL calls PiL darling or honey. I know it's fairly ordinary but I come from a family where nobody used any terms of endearment for anybody so I find it a bit cringe.

Allmyghosts · 02/07/2023 17:45

I was with someone who wanted me to call him tank because his friends did. When I saw the league of gentlemen episode the nickname undoubtedly came from I almost died laughing Grin.

honeylulu · 02/07/2023 17:47

My husband calls me Mother with a Scottish accent. He isn't Scottish and the children don't call me Mother so I'm not sure how or why that started. Our kids are known as Pops and Bun though, which isn't any better. Son calls him Father with a Northern Irish accent (we aren't N.Irish either). Daughter calls him Papa Bear. Oh dear.

CammieKennaway · 02/07/2023 17:48

My husband calls me Haggis 😆

Birdsmakingnests · 02/07/2023 17:57

my pet name for my adult son is hedgehog, because he is currently being a wee prick!

bearess1978 · 02/07/2023 18:08

I call my husband Keith

SayHi · 02/07/2023 18:08

I can’t stand cringe pet names.

Although I know someone who her and her DH call their 11 year old son pin dick because he’s got a small penis apparently.

I absolutely hate it because I think it’s going to make him do self conscious and I’d rather people call them a cringey name than a nasty name.

I think calling kids pet names is definitely better than calling your partner some cringe pet name.

My friend was cringing when my ex DP called me babe but it didn’t bother me as it wasn’t said in a baby or whiny voice.

What the actual fuck! That's beyond messed up.

Saverage · 02/07/2023 18:13

No kids so Dcat bears the brunt of it - baby, pumpkin, bunny, bunbun, honeylamb, mummy's little baby, sweetie puff.

Fortunately I live alone, and the cat doesn't seem to mind.

Tulipvase · 02/07/2023 18:13

I do have a habit of calling the children, dog, kids at school; sugarplum.

Or a variation of that.

My kids nicknames are mainly rhyming versions of their names. don’t call my husband anything other than his name though. Or him, me. No cutesy stuff for us!

msmonstera · 02/07/2023 18:37

Woman at work refers to her 16 year old son as Boo Boo Bear. I'm not sure of his actual name. I know a couple who call each other Cara Mia and Mon Chère like Gomez and Morticia and I think that's kind of cute. The worst one I heard was an old colleague affectionately calling his wife 'Plumpikin'. She seemed to like it though.

That's awful. And seriously damaging to their son. The older he gets, the more he will realise...

But with regards to actual pets names...? My first cat was known (affectionately) as Psycho, Because when I was attacked, he literally sunk teeth and claws into them until they let go of me (I may well owe him my life). He was 4 at the time but lived until he was 22.,. yet if I say 'Psycho' to any of my friends, they know which cat I mean!

pbdr · 02/07/2023 18:49

I call my toddler daughter chickpea, sausage, peanut, chicken pie, honey bug, poppet etc. admittedly a bit cringey but I just love her so much that I lose all dignity and fawn over her 😂

BakewellGin1 · 02/07/2023 18:49

Hearing my friends being called pet names such as princess, queen, baby, sweetie makes me want to vomit 😂

I also think teen son would be mortified if his mum was being called princess in public as some I have witnessed.

NetballHoop · 02/07/2023 18:49

@contrary13 psycho sounds like an excellent cat. I hope you were/are OK though.
