Yes unless there's any medical reasons.

BlissedOutCat · 29/06/2023 16:27

Yes but I'd expect some moaning on the way back. 😂

JauntyJinty · 29/06/2023 16:29

My 8 year old would still be full of beans after that and probably go to play in the garden!

WimpoleHat · 29/06/2023 16:30

Yes. (Unless they didn’t want to cycle, in which case they’d be far, far too tired and you would be entirely unreasonable to suggest it. That’s usually how it went with my kids, anyway!)

PuttingDownRoots · 29/06/2023 16:32

Presuming the child can cycle and swim and were used to exercise... yes.

PuttingDownRoots · 29/06/2023 16:34

Saying that.. I accompanied my DDs class of 9-10yos on a walk last week, probably about 1.5 miles and some of the moaning was impressive.

gogomoto · 29/06/2023 16:34

Yes, but mine were in Cambridge which is (a) flat and (b) everyone else cycled too

Dinosauratemydaffodils · 29/06/2023 16:35

My 8 year old could. I think most of his friends could as well.

Fatat40 · 29/06/2023 16:36

Yes assuming no drip feed re health conditions

whataboutme77 · 29/06/2023 16:37

This all depends on the child surely?
I'd hazard a guess that you're having a good old judge at a child who can't
My child has dyspraxia and isn't confident on a bike yet so he'd enjoy the swimming but would find the cycling hard work.
A child used to cycling would enjoy this activity though.

purplecorkheart · 29/06/2023 16:39

Surely it depends on the child and on there fitness level. Many kids now sadly are driven everywhere and spend their time on consoles etc so it would probably be too much for them.

If they hate cycling or swimming it might be too much for them or if they have an injury etc they may not be able.

Suprima · 29/06/2023 16:42

I’d expect to, but after overseeing 9 years of PE lessons with extremely unfit, sedentary kids who get out of puff doing a 2 minute times tables dance- I’m not surprised.

I think it depends on the child and what they used to. My DD wouldn’t be able to do this for health reasons but out of her 5 friends in primary only one would be able to do this as she regularly cycled to school, others were walking and used bikes much rarer. It wasn’t that they were unfit or moany , it’s just the cycling was more popular in one families then in others

GreyCarpet · 29/06/2023 16:51

I agree it depends on lots of factors.

Health of the child, ability of the child, whether it was a one off or a first attempt at being fit, whether a snack was provided after swimming and before the cycle home.

That sort of thing.

Marblessolveeverything · 29/06/2023 16:52

It really depends on how much cycling and fit the child is. My 9 year old is fit but after swimming is absolutely not fit for anything.

GreyCarpet · 29/06/2023 16:53

I could have done it at that around that age and did similar (aged 10). My son couldn't due to additional needs. For example.

But I would have need a snack after swimming because it always left me feeling starving.

Then again, the two mile cycle home afterwards might be a big ask. Like I said, depends on the child.

GreyCarpet · 29/06/2023 16:54

Also depends on the swimming. If it was 42 lengths of the pool, probably not. If it was a bit of a swim and a bit of a play, that would be different.

LubaLuca · 29/06/2023 16:55

Depends on the child and the terrain. If I cycle 2 miles in any direction it's steep hills and blind bends so it's a tiring and terrifying activity. If I lived in a city with lovely flat cycle paths, then no problem at all.

pinguins · 29/06/2023 16:56

Depends on the speed of the cycling. If it was at a slow enough pace that should be fine.

Freefall212 · 29/06/2023 16:57

Yes absolutely but we are a generally active family and that wouldn't be atypical for a Saturday. Kids bike to school and like to swim so that would be doable for the 7 year old as well.

startafresh123 · 29/06/2023 16:58

My kids would have both done this at 5 or 6.

Niftyswiftie · 29/06/2023 16:59

Yes definitely. We're a sporty, outdoorsy family though.
