I'm going to be acquiring a small campervan soon. I do love a nice village. What are some lovely ones that DH and I - sometimes just I solo - can visit?
Could be that they're pretty, historically interesting, other places of interest nearby, lovely shops, near some natural beauty... which villages do you love?

TIA 🌺

Arundel in West Sussex. The castle and gardens are fab for a visit and the town itself is lovely to explore.

Shere and Ripley in Surrey.

Polperro in South East Cornwall

Mossley in Lancashire

Wensydale, any of the Yorkshire Dales villages really.

Lavenham in Suffolk. It thrived in the middle ages with the wool trade but then was bypassed and forgotten in later centuries. Beautiful old buildings. Close to antique hubs such as Long Melford.

There are lots of other nice villages in Suffolk too. Kersey, Woolpit (look out for green children), Walsham Le Willows, the coastal areas around Southwold/Woodbridge, Shotley, Dedham Vale, Flatford Mill etc I also like Debenham, lesser know, check out the groaning stone along The Butts, there's also a nice walk among the Aspall orchards and you can buy roadside apple juice from the Kenton orchards.

HuntingoftheSnark · 29/06/2023 15:54

Goudhurst and Sissinghurst, Kent

@LowbrowVictoriana if you're visiting the Lincolnshire Wolds there are many lovely villages. Tealby is beautiful.

I see someone has already mentioned Woodhall Spa, they have a great campsite at Jubilee Park just a short walk from the lovely parade of shops in the village. If you book VERY early go for the 1940s weekend one year that takes over the whole area.

Wells next the Sea is lovely, in Norfolk.

gogomoto · 29/06/2023 16:36

Love the Cotswolds, but also loom for places with free overnight parking, we have 25 spaces in our town and makes it a great option for cheap getaways, also our local pub allows overnight camper van parking on condition you eat there!

Crikeyalmighty · 29/06/2023 17:08

I also really liked Wimborne in Dorset - - not sure if it would count as large village or small town

stickybear · 29/06/2023 17:12

Beer and Branscombe in east Devon are lovely, also some of the villages on Dartmoor. I love Widecombe in the Moor

SiouxsieSiouxStiletto · 29/06/2023 18:14

Almost forgot the historical importance of Holmes Chapel. You could go to the bakery where Harry Styles once worked and but a tea towel for your camper van Grin

Tenby in Wales. Beautiful historic seaside town. A literal mini paradise I've even gone there on my own for a break. So lovely

Thanks! We won't be stuck for days out when we visit DS, it seems. He's not even mentioned the nice villages where he lives!

Oh I love Tenby @dollydaydream346 I'm in south Wales so have been quite a few times. So many lovely places in Pembrokeshire. Love St David's and Solva, too!

Culross in Fife

I'm from nearby - Dunfermline - originally! Culross is gorgeous. I love that Scottish historic architectural style.

Don't want to keep bumping, so I'll say thanks one last time to everyone for all your suggestions. I've looked up every single one, and plotted them on a big map so I can plan my visited to wider areas. Lots of new areas I've never even been too, e.g. East Anglia

Will be visiting Woodhall Spa in a few weeks, even before we get the camper... turns out DS lives just 15 minutes drive away!

I dont know when you are visiting and I see someone else upthred has mention this but on the 8-9th july it is the 1940s festival in Woodhall, it is absolutely brilliant! it takes over the whole village, Everyone is dressed up, loads of old vehicles and army vehicles driving about and on display, they have live re enactments, and there is a flyby from the Lancaster Bomber its just fantastic :)
