Asda Delivery - No Eggs.

Dd is a fussy eater. She's on a school trip tomorrow. While ordering my online shop I saw you could buy pre made sandwiches. I ordered an egg and cress for her.

I also ordered 12 eggs. Have Asda completely ran out? Surely any other brand would do? Even a box of 6 is better than 0. I didn't tick don't substitute.

I know there are other things to get worked up about but I order online for a reason and I'm having a shit time at the minute.

My local Tesco is often completely out of eggs

nancy2022 · 27/06/2023 06:56

Ah really? I didn't realise this.

What's the deal with egg shortage- it's been going on for ages is it bird flu related?

DustyLee123 · 27/06/2023 06:57

Yes, my Tesco often has none at all.

nancy2022 · 27/06/2023 06:57

I managed to get eggs from Asda fine last week. To be honest we don't eat them often but I've decided to eat a bit better.

No idea, but the local M&S has never run out

MyFaceIsAnAONB · 27/06/2023 06:58

This has been going on a while across all shops. Presume something to do with the bird flu outbreak.

nancy2022 · 27/06/2023 06:58

I meant to add a pic. Not that you need proof 😆

Eggs are as rare as hens eggs round here

pickledandpuzzled · 27/06/2023 07:00

It's been going on all year. I buy eggs whenever I see them as it's very hot and miss.
That means though that sometimes I have more than I need, and sometimes I have none.
The happy medium of always having 'some' is no longer possible.

veryfluffyfluff · 27/06/2023 07:01

Also maybe because you requested free range they automatically rule out caged as a substitute. Which seems right to me.

EmeraldFox · 27/06/2023 07:02

The supermarket eggs shortage is odd as it seems to be only supermarkets. Plentiful supply at the farmers market and other local suppliers, and the price gap between them and the supermarket has narrowed significantly.

Mindymomo · 27/06/2023 07:03

There’s been an egg shortage for a while now. I get a Tesco delivery once a week and hardly ever get the large ones I would like, some weeks I don’t get any. My DS is into body building, so eats a lot of eggs, he prefers duck eggs as they are bigger, but we’ve not been able to get these for over 6 months.

Mutabiliss · 27/06/2023 07:04

Yes, eggs are often out of stock. Bird farms were massively affected by bird flu, perhaps it's still an issue.

I can't work out what this has to do with a pre-packaged egg sandwich, though?

nancy2022 · 27/06/2023 07:04

Because I can't even make her an egg sandwich (not that she would eat it).

OP posts:
nancy2022 · 27/06/2023 07:05

Sorry they didn't have that in stock either. Just two out of stock items and both egg related.

OP posts:
Mutabiliss · 27/06/2023 07:09

Ah right. Well I guess the factory that makes the sandwiches might have supply issues too?

Eggs being difficult to come by has been in the news since winter.

AnotherDayAnotherUsernameForMeAgain · 27/06/2023 07:09

Sainsburys are often the same and won’t send caged in place of free range (rightly so).

M&S locally always seem to have some in store as do the local farm shop.

hollyblueivy · 27/06/2023 07:32

Anyone with any farming insight know how long this is expected to last?

I thought all chickens were now kept inside - so no free range in the usual sense of the word?

I assume until supermarkets pay farmers a fair price

Egg shortages

'Supermarkets won't pay us', egg farmer speaks out over shortages

Egg farmer Ioan Humphreys has called out supermarkets for "not paying egg farmers" and instead blaming avian flu for the shortages of eggs.

Supermarkets are not paying the egg farmers properly, so they are not replacing the chickens. Eggs are expensive now, but will be more expensive in future.

ladygindiva · 27/06/2023 07:41

Yes I've noticed the supermarkets are often out of eggs. I've noticed our local ( I live rurally) little shops and farm shops have plenty of local eggs though, from local farms. I wonder if it's a fallout between supermarkets and suppliers ie supermarkets refusing to pay enough?

Thought so! Interestingly I pay less now at the local farm shop for eggs than at the supermarket, by a significant amount.

xsquared · 27/06/2023 07:45

Lidl always had eggs, but there's a restriction to how many boxes you can buy in one shop.

Perhaps others are buying more than they need for fear of running out.
