What age child do you think did these Hama beads?

Just that really? I feel some behaviours my son shows might indicate ASD (whispering repetition of words, overwhelm in shops but he is quite good socially). This is way more ordered than what his older sister does.

So wondering what age children tend to be when they do this kind of ordered pattern.

What age child do you think did these Hama beads?

Thanks everyone. He is 4. Currently at nursery and school in September.

He is very very logical. Loves logical adult board games with patterns and is better than me at them. In fact he tells me what to do because I take too long so he is pretty much playing by himself.

It's something I'll keep an eye on. Will see how he gets on at school with a new routine and rules.

Why don't you talk to nursery and see if they have any concerns.

FriedEggChocolate · 26/06/2023 11:19

My 4 year old's made a butterfly with hama beads but they have no symetry at all. They're just bead chucked onto the base in a way that she thinks look pretty. Definitey NT (older sibling has ADD and there are big difference between them at the same age)

EbonyRaven · 26/06/2023 11:28

I have not looked at any subsequent posts after your OP @Flowersforbees I am guessing 4-5. My DC were capable of this kind of thing at 3.5 to 4.5.

People are being ridiculous. Definitely not typical of a 3/4 year old, more like 6/7 imo. I’d be impressed from a six year old.

Waiting for people to come along saying that their child was doing hama beads in the womb.

Singleandproud · 26/06/2023 11:41

@Flowersforbees if he really likes logical games look at Think Fun games on Amazon, my DD loved the Cat Crimes one and Gravity Maze she was a little older than your DS when we bought them but worth picking up as they depend more on how the brain works than anything, although you'll need to read the cat crime one too him.

DD likes puzzles too, not jigsaw puzzles but physical ones you have to manipulate.

Im sorry but people saying 3 being typical are ridiculous. Most 3 year olds don’t even have the dexterity for this

Completely agree. Wonder why so many people always say such ridiculous ages for this type of thing on Mumsnet.

Maybe should point out that I was reading full length novels (300+ pages) by Year 3, but then that’s probably average on Mumsnet! 😁

My daughter is 4 and starting school in September. She would never have been able to do that. I would have said 6/7 it's amazing.

This!! I think that's unusual for a 4 year old, personally.

Lol. This 💯

@Jumbojade and @FatGirlSwim Projecting much? Wink Just because YOUR children were not capable of this kind of thing til they were 7 or 8, that doesn't mean other children aren't. Clearly other peoples children are more advanced than yours. No need to make snarky comments because you have an issue with other children being more advanced than yours, with more abilities. Many posters on here have said their child could do this at 3-4. They are not all lying because you don't want it to be true.

EbonyRaven · 26/06/2023 11:55

That post is aimed at @Justputitdown too. ^

WandaWonder · 26/06/2023 11:56

3+maybe

RagingWoke · 26/06/2023 11:58

With a guide or outline I think a 5 year old could manage similar.

But if you're concerned already have you spoken to nursery? They are usually good at spotting potential SEN and can help you start the process of assessment, the wait lists are quite long for most areas so is recommend at least starting sooner.

If he likes puzzles and pattern games there are some great ones my DD likes playing. Alhambra and tsuro are family favourites and we've been playing since she was about 4, potion explosion is a really fun one too but we didn't start that until around 6. No ASD but she's always loved a board game.

WedTheBed · 26/06/2023 11:58

My three year old would just try to eat the beads.

People saying 3 for this are lying, either to make you feel like your son is average, or because people have this new found irritation for people who suspect any form of atypical neurological situation. God knows why people are so pressed about it.

He’s done a great job OP, and at 4 I’d say he is going to super creative as he grows!

You WANT people to be lying, because YOUR child couldn't do it. Stop projecting. People are not lying. Get a grip FFS.

Oh come off it 😂 I'm not projecting because I think my kids are thick and backwards, I'm saying that this isn't typical for a 3/4 year old.

Why don't you go and have a lie down while your toddler reads War and Peace quietly in the corner?

17caterpillars1mouse · 26/06/2023 12:03

My 4 year old is hama mad and does colour co-ordinated ones like this. Older dd was probably 5.5 before she started doing patterns rather than random coloured beads

Bemyclementine · 26/06/2023 12:03

^^🤣

My very bright , logical thinking 7 yr old wouldn't have done this at 3 or 4.

I could do it though. I'm 45.

Calm down. You'll give yourself a nosebleed. Your jealousy is showing. And you're embarrassing yourself. I could be equally as sarcy about YOUR child NOT being able to do things that others can do at 3 or 4. But I won't lower myself like you. Enjoy your day, and your silly sarcasm and projecting.

I'm out of this thread now I can see a few posters are upset that other children are more advanced at an earlier age than theirs are. Understandable, but no need to be so rude about it.

WedTheBed · 26/06/2023 12:06

@EbonyRaven I see you feel very strongly on this Hamma Bead subject.

I’d like to challenge you to a hamma-bead-off.. adult to adult?

gogomoto · 26/06/2023 12:09

Depends on the child, 4-6 depending on their dexterity and creativity

You’ve made the right choice @EbonyRaven, I’d leave the thread too if I’d replied to people as you have. The second hand embarrassment is killing me so god knows how you must feel.

groupery · 26/06/2023 12:10

the typical mns answer will be 1

groupery · 26/06/2023 12:12

@WedTheBed I don't think @EbonyRaven is an adult!

Labralion · 26/06/2023 12:14

People saying this is typical for 3/4 are bananas. I work in early years and most would not have the fine motor skills for this (perhaps heading toward 5 but still a very small minority)

TooManyPlatesInMotion · 26/06/2023 12:16

Massive variation I would think.

My youngest (aged 4) wouldn't do this, definitely!! My other DD is 6 and would have done it at 4 or 5 probably but that kind of thing is just more her bag. My DS is 12 and probably still couldn't/wouldn't do it now!
