What is a standard bathroom light in a housing association property?

I've been told by my neighbourhood officer to change my bathroom light back to standard. When I asked what that was she said just a pendant light.

DH said you can't put a pendant light in a bathroom? It's dangerous?
.
I need to do it by Thursday and she's off next week so I can't contact her and ask?!

Definitely not a pendant light in the bathroom. It needs to be enclosed. I'd call the housing association and question it.

You can never get through. 2 hours I was on hold last week and then they cut me off!

The lady who I can contact is on holiday now.

I'm in a housing association property and they recently installed this in my bathroom. Hope it helps!

The one that Firevixen posted is fairly standard, I just couldn't find it on the website I was on.

I can't remember! We've been here 17 years and changed it quite soon after.

I think it's was one of the white round rounds people have posted?!

@Monoplane @Firevixen I think they're the right ones. They look familiar!

Mine has one of those D shaped bulbs in, really bugs me because it is the only one in my flat that I can't use a smart bulb & link to my Google Home system.

Just standard pendant lights here. (Large HA)

Winterday1991 · 25/06/2023 07:57

They are hideous. Could you ask the HA to install spotlights?

LivingDeadGirlUK · 25/06/2023 08:08

Housekeeperbatcocoa · 24/06/2023 12:29

Here's mine.

Bathroom light should have a water ingres rating of at least IP44. Usually its one of the round type shown on the thread in HA property.

The photo quoted doesn't meet regs as its a unprotected lamp in a potentially wet environment and I wonder if its supposed to have a globe type cover over it. Worth checking with your HA.

LivingDeadGirlUK · 25/06/2023 08:13

Astro lighting have some non hideous ones.

Ginmonkeyagain · 25/06/2023 08:35

Our flat is privately owned (by us) but when we had our bathroom redone a few years ago, the fitters advised that due to the size of our bathroom (it is on the small side but not miniscule) we only had two choices of light fitting - either spot ligts or those round "flying saucer" ones that fit flush with the ceiling. We went for the latter.

It is apprently down to "zones" and how close the light fitting is to the basin or bath/shower.

I already installed nicer lights, but I'm moving now so have to replace them with standard housing association ones.

Yes enclosed lighting like some of the ones listed.

Im assuming you are mutually exchanging so need the house back to letting standards before you do.

Yes. There is enclosed lighting professionally fitted but they want a plastic one putting back in. Sill really. The lady swapping with much prefers the current one.

You can buy a basic enclosed bathroom light from Argos for about £30 and get an electrican to fit it.

Ginmonkeyagain · 25/06/2023 10:33

This is ours. It was the least hideous one I could find that conformed to regulations, it was from John Lewis, so a little pricier than others but worth it for us.
