6 hours today to get house and laundry sorted - anyone want to join me?

House looks like a bombs hit it and due to a ridiculous schedule haven’t done any more than keep food preparation areas clean for about a fortnight. Going to start a blitz at 10, anyone else doing a big housework day today?

First go of bath shower done. It’s going to need doing again as marks so stubborn but DH about to have a shower anyway so I’ll go and give it another go later.

First load of washing done so going to hang that out, put another on, then see what I fancy doing after that.

We are in it today too. DH isn’t working today so 2 of us helps a lot, we were away last weekend and done bare minimum this week.
Done: wash one, pool maintenance, bathroom, swept downstairs, clean washing folded, bins emptied and filled with hot soapy water, downstairs swept.

In progress:Wash 2, Kitchen, DD doing her bedroom, I am doing ours.

To do, hoover upstairs, mop downstairs, shopping (food and present for MIL), weeding out front (pulling up what have suddenly turned into small trees), putting net and poles back on trampoline.

abandoned: lawn morning, sorting out crap for charity shop and swim at beach as we have people coming over later

AlanJohnsonsBeemer · 24/06/2023 11:37

Abandoned bed sheet change for all too, will do tomorrow morning hungover and regretting not doing today

EmmaEmerald · 24/06/2023 11:42

Thanks OP, I'm in
I've done the food shop
Now coffee

It's so crazy in here - moved 2 months ago and been let down by no show workmen for the third time yesterday, I actually cried - but now I have to

  1. sort cleaning stuff
  2. heave boxes of books etc behind sofa because clearly ain't no one coming to assemble shelves
  3. find pills - seriously!
  4. if too hot for anything else, do some paperwork

So coffee now, then I'll report back in an hour.

MaggyNoodles · 24/06/2023 09:55

Good luck to you. Mine is all done yesterday (was a bombsite also).
I have dedicated today to funding the source of the weird smell in the living room 🤢

We found ours. It was a dead and maggoty mouse under one of the chairs, courtesy of the cat.

I hope yours is less gross.

declutteringmymind · 24/06/2023 11:47

Progress!

Both bathrooms cleaned, kitchen tidy , bins emptied, 2 wash on, bedrooms tidy, loft trip done.

Now hoovering and Dustin upstairs and then lunch and clean kitchen after that.

The kids were brilliant so they've had a break, doing their homework and I'm taking them to decathlon after lunch.

Also, don't forget the lunges and squats as you go!

Ohmych · 24/06/2023 11:51

I have my landlord coming Monday for an inspection and not much time. When I get home from work I'm going to crack on with the housework.

First go of bath shower done. It’s going to need doing again as marks so stubborn but DH about to have a shower anyway so I’ll go and give it another go later.

First load of washing done so going to hang that out, put another on, then see what I fancy doing after that.

Pink stuff paste or one of those little eraser rubbers might help with the stains on the bath - as long as it's not a particularly expensive bath (I think they have micro grains in them so can leave tiny scratches you don't see them but thought it worth mentioning just in case).

So me going for a shower has resulted in me cleaning the family bathroom. Now the enquire to do and then shower and relax!

ThinksALot · 24/06/2023 12:03

Ensuite not enquire!

treacledan71 · 24/06/2023 12:03

I was going to do 9 to 2 today including mowing two lawns. Done the lawns and had a massive tidy up of house and wiped and polished where you can see. Just run vaccy round downstairs where can see too and put a wash out. Cleaned bathroom. Probably not very thorough but it looks better!! Had enough now. Too hot.

Hollyhead · 24/06/2023 12:38

Great progress everyone. I’ve completed the bathroom, the bath came up really well second time around with a different product. Think the first go just ‘loosened’ the grime and soap scum! Second batch of washing in so my next task is to put away another basket of clean washing so I don’t get a backlog once it’s dry! After that I might tackle the utility room.

LexieLoos · 24/06/2023 13:04

Wash number 2 is ready for the line, kitchen ans our bedroom are done
DP and DD decided to start sorting out the toy box instead of just tidying the mess that was already visible, so living room looks worse than before
If there are no signs of it being finished after lunch then I'm going to get my nails done instead 😌

SpringOn · 24/06/2023 13:09

Ok back for final reportFloor never
got washed - DH fixed the mower so I mowed the lawn and did some other gardening- weeded the drive, watered the greenhouse. Second load on the line and third in the wash. Going to have a shower now, sit in the hammock for a bit. At 4 ish going to take the kids down to the beach for a swim

EmmaEmerald · 24/06/2023 13:26

So I did item 2 on the list first before it got too hot to undo boxes etc

now lunch

the other stuff isn't heat dependent so I think that was the right order

thanks for starting the thread OP. I'd likely have lounged about if you hadn't.

Hollyhead · 24/06/2023 13:38

This is all great progress, I’ve hung out the 2nd load of washing, started tidying the utility, put away all the clean washing. My next target is a clean of the living room, it’s not too bad as DH is responsible for it and he is quite disciplined about doing it every week.

OP posts:
tealandteal · 24/06/2023 13:48

The second load of washing is on the line and the first is stored in to piles ready to go up once the baby wakes. I did make a lovely brunch but now there’s lots of washing up to do…..

I second this!

WateryDoom · 24/06/2023 14:20

I've done 3 loads of laundry and it's all out on line (one load's been brought in). Made two different salads ready for a BBQ tea. Emptied the bins. I need to clean both bathrooms. And empty and load the dishwasher.

I'm flagging a bit.

Ohmych · 24/06/2023 14:52

I've put a load of washing out, put another one in the wm. Filled up all the bird feeders while I was in the garden. Off to do some cleaning now.

Ohmych · 24/06/2023 15:25

I set a timer for 30 minutes and I put the bedding back on my bed, emptied bins upstairs, cleaned the toilet, tidied the top of book case and shelf in bathroom. Not much really for half an hour but it's too hot to rush around too much. Downstairs now for more.

MaggyNoodles · 24/06/2023 15:36

ReeseWitherfork · 24/06/2023 10:02

Stop funding it and it might move out!

I’ve done the dusting, floors and windows today and frankly I’m done. Let’s hope any visitors don’t go to the bathroom.

🤣 There is every chance it could come from a teenager. Can't stop funding them just yet.

AlanJohnsonsBeemer · 24/06/2023 16:03

We have done everything apart from gift for MIL (DH will sort on Monday) and put the net and poles back on the trampoline (DH can do with DD when he gets back as she is annoying me). DH has gone on an extra errand he forgot about: setting up tech for an elderly relative, he thought it would take 20 mins, he has been gone 90 so far 😂

Hollyhead · 24/06/2023 16:04

Great work everyone! I’m starting to flag now 6 hours in but everywhere is looking so much better.

when l start to flag I switch to a ‘10 things’ challenge where I go room by room and find 10 things to improve/tidy/chuck away. It keeps my motivation up! So that’s what I’m going to do for my final hour before my well deserved drink!

Had an ice lolly and did another half an hour. I tidied and cleaned the table, top of kalax, 2 shelves. Washed some walls and the front of the fridge freezer. Need to clean the patio doors and wash some more walls and the dining room will be done.
