Leaving a review do u bother. Staff getting into trouble.

I have worked in a few customer service places. And both have leaned very heavily of making staff get a google review.

I have had to take staff into the office and tell them off if they didn’t get a personal one that month which I hated doing.

They have started to do this where my dh works and they now get marked down if they don’t get a review.

I think this is ridiculous. You have no control over anybody after they leave the building regardless if u have given them good service and u have asked them to leave one.
I myself have had good service in places and thought yes I should leave one but then forget.

Do u do reviews. Does it make a difference knowing that staff get told off by not getting any.

Only on over and above service.

I hire cars a lot for work, through a corporate contract. The hire company staff always ask us to leave a 10/10 review otherwise they get a bollocking - but often we have had cars unavailable or the wrong type or given a small car when we've ordered an SUV. This isn't the staff's fault - it's issues with supply in general and a lot of one-way hires where the cars aren't replaced. But ultimately we aren't getting 10/10 service other than the face to face stuff with the staff themselves, and it masks the issue.

I do leave Google reviews if someone has gone above and beyond - an example being one of the receptionists at my GP surgery who has been an absolute diamond on a couple of occasions.

I was asked to do this by our server when eating out a few months and I'll be completely honest, I forgot until reading this thread and now I feel really guilty.

I don't like this: as others have said, good customer service is the baseline anyway and as a consumer, my part of the contract is fulfilled by being polite in turn and then paying the bill.

I don't really want to add an extra layer of admin to something I'm presumably doing for enjoyment.

Exactly this - if the contract is fulfilled on both sides then there is no need for further admin. In teh case of a server, good service is indicated by the size of the tip, not via a review.

@INeedAnotherName yup. Also. When they ask if u want one of their cards. They get told off if not enough people sign up. The whole thing is awful.

I worked in BHS years ago and regularly got told off for not selling enough store cards, management told me to target old people and those who appeared not to quite understand what they were signing up for 😡I walked out one morning after having enough of that shit.

EmpressaurusOfCats · 23/06/2023 12:25

If I’m really impressed I’ll leave a review, & if there’s no obvious way to provide feedback I’ll email head office.

Last time a waitress came up to me with an iPad and asked me to provide a Trip Adviser review, I said I’d do it later. I don’t have an account & I wasn’t about to go through the process of setting one up while I was trying to enjoy my meal. Admittedly I didn’t do it later, and if I’d been local I wouldn’t have gone back there because I wouldn’t want to be asked again.

EBearhug · 23/06/2023 12:33

I will leave reviews if service is exceptionally good or bad. I sometimes leave reviews when I'm asked by email, but if I have to sign up to something, I won't - I don't have TripAdvisor or Twitter and I'm not signing up just because I received entirely average service that is the basic requirement of any business providing goods or services.

Epicstorm · 23/06/2023 12:39

I do reviews if staff/service have been particularly good. My frustration is when the format of the review doesn’t allow me to say what I want and the questions aren’t appropriate to my situation. Then I don’t bother often having got part way through the review.

SlightlygrumpyBettyswaitress · 23/06/2023 12:44

No. If you want to target staff, do it on whether they have requested. Not on whether the customer has completed. Dd1 had this in Boots in a major station. They just used to keep a few receipts and get their mates to do it. Always receipts on the floor outside!

VillageLite · 23/06/2023 12:48

I never leave reviews, and I dislike being badgered to give them.

If I heard a company was penalising their staff for not getting enough reviews, or if I felt under undue pressure to give a review, I would probably try to avoid that company in future, if I could.

mondaytosunday · 23/06/2023 12:55

I leave reviews for restaurants and hotels, as I do read them before booking. But I never mention a particular staff member as I don't know the names! I might say 'the manager' or the 'night staff' or something like that if highlighting something.
I've never left a review for a retail store other than a hairdresser, and unless it was truly awful I only leave positive reviews in that case.

UsingChangeofName · 23/06/2023 12:58

ArbitraryHaddock · 23/06/2023 09:48

I don’t leave reviews. I expect good customer service as a basic. It’s an abrogation of management to rely on social media.

This

Same as all the 'customer service questionnaires' after every interaction with a company or any time you buy anything.
I don't have time in my life for that.

shivawn · 23/06/2023 12:59

Sometimes but I never mention staff members by name.

EmpressaurusOfCats · 23/06/2023 13:02

I’ll probably start it but whether I finish it depends on the questions. If there are compulsory ones on stuff I didn’t notice, or if there’s a demographics section at the end that asks my gender & doesn’t have a space for me to tell them that gender’s a stupid concept & they really mean sex, then I’ll abandon it.

MorrisZapp · 23/06/2023 13:03

There's a trend of phoning you if you leave a negative review. I don't have the time or headspace in my day to chat to the manager of a restaurant I had crap service in. I just want to say my bit and move on.

User195376587 · 23/06/2023 13:04

I sometimes leave reviews but don't if it means signing into Google

SistersNotCisters · 23/06/2023 13:06

Not often unless it warrants me going out of my way to review, like fantastic service that really impressed me, or service that's so awful I want to warn others about.
There was once a visit to a pizza place franchise by my family at a popular holiday destination. You could see the poor manager was at the limit of her sanity as customers screamed and shouted at her because of course, everything was going wrong. Sometimes just one initial F up can turn a whole shift to shit and it's a pure nightmare of never catching up.
The Wi-Fi was dead, the app was messing up so people weren't able to order properly and all but one drinks machine was broken. The kitchen had low stock due to a broken freezer and corporate wouldn't send repairs out for another two days (we got talking to the young manager stand-in who was downstairs near us as she'd offered for us to sit in the closed downstairs section to save me going upstairs on my crutches)

Despite the crap she was getting off people who were rowdy, rude and unwilling to wait the extra 5 minutes for them to order the food, she held her head high and tried everything she could to sort things out.
She got a specific mention and a glowing online review off me. And a big tip even though it wasn't a tip kinda place.

But OP, I would not write a review of a standard service or transaction unless specifically asked to. And even then I wouldn't like doing so because I think it's kinda weird to be asking people to rate you.

WhatWouldHopperDo · 23/06/2023 13:07

It’s difficult isn’t it because one of the first things a lot of people will do before
buying something/going somewhere is look at the reviews. So now business owners are desperate for lots of good reviews. Rubbish to tell staff off though. As you say @Bananas1350 you can’t make people do it once they’ve left. All you can do is ask.

Silkierabbit · 23/06/2023 13:07

I leave reviews for hotels and holidays as I use them for me. Other things if service has been very good or very bad and not corrected I will sometimes. I generally don't know staff names so wouldn't do a personal review and think its highly unreasonable of a company to ask this. It would also put me off a company if they pestered me to give a personal staff review.

drpet49 · 23/06/2023 13:08

PickledPurplePickle · 23/06/2023 10:04

I rarely leave reviews unless the experience has been exceptional and I never use google reviews

This. I only leave reviews if the staff member has gone above and beyond expectations.

Ohmylordnotagain · 23/06/2023 13:09

I used to work in a store that expected us to ask for reviews, i never did as i felt it immediately madevthe interaction seem less genuine like i was only nice for the review and so it felt really uncomfortable.

Hecate01 · 23/06/2023 14:09

If you have a good experience please leave a review. I work at a hotel in the housekeeping department and my staff can earn pay incentives if they hit targets every month so it really does matter.

On the flip side we can't improve things if we don't know what we are doing wrong so bad reviews are equally as important but people are more likely to leave a bad review than a good one which is a shame.

LoobyDop · 23/06/2023 15:19

I don’t mind giving a star rating or marks out of ten. If there’s a mandatory comment field I don’t do it though- I have better things to do with my time. I’m pretty sick of the culture of companies pestering for feedback. My feedback is delivered by me either buying more from them, or not. I’m not prepared to expend additional effort on helping them run the bloody business.

OnedayIwillfeelfree · 23/06/2023 15:30

I work as a mystery shopper and get paid for reviewing staff and companies. If a company wants honest reviews then they need to pay for more mystery shoppers. There are some companies I have used on the internet who have sent 2nd/3rd emails requesting reviews. I unsubscribe and make a mental note not to shop there again. If management want to review how staff treat customers then they need to be more proactive. It’s so needy and cringeworthy to be sent emails saying ‘ooh how good are we?’

Rosecoffeecup · 23/06/2023 15:32

I do try to leave reviews for good service. E.g. used a local rubbish clearance firm, left them a good review because they were excellent and that would genuinely help me in choosing a firm to use in the future. Also if someone asks I will, as I assume its related to performance ratings etc

inappropriateraspberry · 23/06/2023 15:32

I'm not going to go to the trouble of typing in the address of whatever is circled o. The receipt. I hate it when they push that. I would review if there was exceptional or unusual service.
More likely I'd put something on a local Facebook page recommending the shop/person/service to others.
