Missing Titanic submarine

Twinklesgolden · 19/06/2023 17:50

How horrifying that a submarine carrying 5 people has gone missing. Apparently there’s only 96 hours of air on the submarine when it sets off.

The people on board must be terrified!

If they do manage to reach it can they get it out as quick as possible or do they have to be careful of the bends?

There is no means of getting it back in all honestly. Not before the crew have perished.

stbrandonsboat · 20/06/2023 19:44

I wonder if the sub has collided with a whale or something. Northern Right Whales dive to around 1000ft and are in that area.

A lot of people online are blaming orcas-as they're suspected to have plotted revenge on humans recently.

Coms were lost 1hr 45 mins into the dive. They should have been much deeper than 1000ft at that point. More likely if a collision took place it will have been with wreckage.

justgettingthroughtheday · 20/06/2023 19:42

My understanding (from this thread and googling) is that because it's kept to atmospheric pressures inside the bends shouldn't be an issue.

Ah good. Hopefully they can send something down to get it.

plantsandwich · 20/06/2023 19:54

It's looking very bleak. I don't know what the 'something' they could send down would be. Do we even have a vessel capable of that?

TakemedowntoPotatoCity · 20/06/2023 19:54

I wonder if there is a gun on board just in case ?

If this is a stupid comment, I apologise. I know nothing about these things.

I imagine it would be too dangerous in case one of the passengers got angry

They're certainly crafty things.

Don't they have those little subs that can go and have a look without people inside? Then they could attach it to that

A303 · 20/06/2023 19:56

Behave. Been watching you.

A303 · 20/06/2023 19:57

That was to @darkmodeon.

tigger2022 · 20/06/2023 19:57

Reading about how shoddy it all was (parts bought from camping stores), PS4 controllers, refusing to get certification, putting everything on the outside, firing the safety guy, building it out of carbon fibre, sending tourists down there despite multiple dangerous failures, naming it after the ship that sank, macabre grave tourism, the size of the vessel being purely so a tour guide could go for the customers… it’s all so unbelievably stupid and negligent and reckless. It’s really limiting my ability to feel as sorry for the CEO as the other passengers I’ll be honest. I feel quite angry, actually. Schrödinger’s Idiot.

plantsandwich · 20/06/2023 20:00

I dont think It's a stupid comment @TakemedowntoPotatoCity . Cynanide capsules have been mentioned

@stbrandonsboat they are and I'd not be surprised if they did something like that, but not to do with this case!

@tigger2022 I am wondering if the other passengers haven't kicked the living shit out of him.

Oceangate have other similar vessels don't they-but they couldn't be much cop in this situation!

CosmosQueen · 20/06/2023 20:00

I cannot get my head around the fact that there’s no way to communicate other than by text for the first few feet underwater, there’s no tracking system/monitoring system at all and presumably pretty limited battery capacity. Effectively, if the poor men are still alive, they’re sitting in a pitch black, freezing tin can and waiting to die?
Beyong a nightmare.
How on earth can the company be allowed to operate with no safety measures at all?

YoSof · 20/06/2023 20:01

They can’t just send something down to get it! The only thing that MAY be capable of reaching those depths is 1000s mile away because paperwork hasn’t been signed.

And if they get to it then what? They can’t just hop out into the other sub, and the machine that can reach the same depths doesn’t have a winch or a tow rope attached to it.

If it is not found bobbing on the surface, like now, then it really is hopeless. They have 40 hours to a) get to the location b) find it and c) reach it and when they do reach it there’s nothing they can do anyway.

The vessel weighs 10,000kg. If it's powerless, God knows how they're supposed to attach it to anything with no divers. I don't think there's anything simple about any of it. Because we have no business poking around down there.

Feelingsickrightnow · 20/06/2023 20:06

@Wheresthebeach i agree with the wealth and boredom.
Years ago I was jealous/ envious of for example of Victoria Beckham that she might have lots of money and can afford LV bag I wanted for ages.
Then I realised that to have so much money must be soooo boring as anything you want to buy, you just go and get it immediately without any money worry.
I would miss the thrill to not to have enough money, to scrape for it to actually afford it and that makes me much more happier than have millions in my account as you can’t just enjoy them. If you know what I mean by this…

If you go to page 9, you will see @darkmodeon has been told all this. That poster is just fucking around with you all.

CovetedAsFuck · 20/06/2023 20:06

At this point I’m really hoping they died instantly in a pressure collapse, rather than being alive to experience psychological torture and horrifying physical circumstances with no real hope of rescue.

My mind keeps bouncing back and forth between this story and the migrant ship disaster.

Finding myself being extra patient with everyone at home this evening out of sheer gratitude that they’re safe on dry land.

It hadn't actually occurred to me (until your post) that they may be trapped in there with the person they might view as responsible for their awful fate. 😦

That's exactly what I mean! Four against one, too.

As I said upthread, not unlike the cosmonaut situation I linked to. He had no opportunity as he knew he was dying alone, but he was (very justifiably!) Livid at the shoddy craftmanship that he'd tried to warn his colleagues about.

I'd not be surprised if, if the vessel is recovered at any point, there are signs of him having being lynched by the rest of them.

coxesorangepippin · 20/06/2023 20:13

Yes I think it might all be getting a bit lord of the files on that submarine

If they're still alive

Terrible situation

Twinklesgolden · 20/06/2023 20:19

I haven’t stopped thinking about the poor people on board. I too like some of the posters hope that they have died quick and painlessly. The thought of being in a pitch black vessel, awaiting death is absolutely horrifying
