Missing Titanic submarine

Twinklesgolden · 19/06/2023 17:50

How horrifying that a submarine carrying 5 people has gone missing. Apparently there’s only 96 hours of air on the submarine when it sets off.

The people on board must be terrified!

Yes if there was something to be done the peoples families have enough money to make it happen

So clearly there's nothing to be done

Bharath · 20/06/2023 18:04

It’s dreadful, especially the poor teenager. Imagine being born a billionaire and having every opportunity in the world to have an utterly amazing life, then squandering it to suffocate in a tin can at the bottom of the ocean.

GorgeousLadyofWrestling · 20/06/2023 18:04

Skinnermarink · 20/06/2023 17:58

I think that may be a sign to say there’s nothing to be done however much money or publicity you throw at it.

That is a very good point 😕

HundredMilesAnHour · 20/06/2023 18:05

This is the podcast Mike Reiss the journalist did about his experiences on the same sub last year (when it went missing for a few hours) down to the Titanic site:

What Am I Doing Here? with Mike Reiss: Episode 40: THE TITANIC!

The podcast sinks to new lows.

Approx 40-41 hours left of oxygen.

JustCheckingUp · 20/06/2023 18:12

So basically they haven’t a clue

I guess for some people the utterly amazing life that being a billionaire offers you involves doing things exactly like this, which in turn exposes them to much greater risk of death.

These are people who do space tourism. People who decide to take up climbing so they can go up into the death zone above 8000 feet. The very high risk of death is no doubt part of the attraction.

when disaster happens it never looks worth, but that’s hindsight. No one really believes that they’ll be the one to die though

PenelopeTitsDrop3121 · 20/06/2023 18:15

No news :(

Neverinamonthofsundays · 20/06/2023 18:15

That was the most pointless conference ever.

JustCheckingUp · 20/06/2023 18:15

I think something happened on the way down that breached the vessel

Skinnermarink · 20/06/2023 18:18

I think they know it’s vanishingly unlikely it’s a rescue mission at all.

JustCheckingUp · 20/06/2023 18:20

I like this guy Simpson, but he has very somber tone

Well it's understandable. 40 hours of oxygen left. That doesn't even give 40 hours to find them. They'd need enough oxygen to be rescued once being located, goodness knows how long it would take to decide how to actually rescue them if they do find them. I sound like a Debbie Downer, whilst hoping I'm wrong, but even if they found them in the imminent future, getting equipment to even attempt a rescue then getting the rescue started could take a long time on its own.

Mogwalla · 20/06/2023 18:27

If they were stuck surely their communication system would still work? I think it must be a power failure or the vessel has been breached in some way.

tigger2022 · 20/06/2023 18:28

Every time I try to feel some hope, the news describes the shoddy vessel they’re in and… nope

Pootle40 · 20/06/2023 18:30

LaurieFairyCake · 20/06/2023 18:01

Buried alive is clearly the worst way to die

If I had all that money the idea I would spend it getting inside basically a tin can and going 2 miles down beggars belief Confused

I don't understand why anyone would do that

Absolutely crazy and now all the money and resources to find people being extremely foolish taking a massive risk with their lives. The feel sorry for the son.....there is no chance of rescue unless they float back up

Pootle40 · 20/06/2023 18:30

I feel sorry for the son I meant

Wheresthebeach · 20/06/2023 18:31

The problem with extreme wealth is boredom. You’ve more money than you could possibly spend, no need to do anything, so you either go for power (politics), or extreme sports/adventure.

BillyNoM8s · 20/06/2023 18:31

It's a bit horrific that they could've mobilised rescue efforts 8 hours sooner but for whatever reason, didn't call it in.

Did they just assume the vessel had "gone missing" like it has before, due to their sub standard comms, and sit and wait?

Waiver or no waiver, they're gonna get sued to fuck.

I hope this incident forces regulations to be implemented.

JustCheckingUp · 20/06/2023 18:35

I think you’re right @BillyNoM8s this wasn’t an unusual occurrence to begin with

whatsappdoc · 20/06/2023 18:35

He was asked how long it would take for a rescue vessel to get to the critical area from St. John's and he said 2 to 4 days. I thought he'd said 2 to 4 hours to start with and thought oh that's good but then realised my mistake. How much bleaker the outcome looks.

The more info is shared about the shoddy sub, the more I think I wouldn't get in that thing if it was on the boating lake at Hyde Park let alone the 2.5 miles depths of the Atlantic 100s of miles from actual land.

I suppose they thought that as 8 hours was the dive time, they would wait and see if the sub surfaced about then.

MotherofGorgons · 20/06/2023 18:37

Apparently last year the sub went missing for 2 hours. Wasn't that a warning?
