Olive oil burn- how can I sooth it?

Workyticket · 18/06/2023 12:39

Frying eggs for breakfast 2 hours ago

Massive splash right across the base of my thumb and the fleshy part of my palm

I've been soaking it since and had it wrapped in a wet tea towel but every time I take it out of the water it burns more

It feels like it's cooking from the inside

Its not blistered, just red.

Neat lavender oil

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 18/06/2023 12:47

Keep running it under cold water, if it still burns, run it done more. Put nothing on it.

Workyticket · 18/06/2023 12:55

It's been 2 hours, my fingers are like prunes with all the water 🙈

Wrap it in Cling film to keep the air off it and take some painkillers

You've been soaking it, needs to be running water to properly take the heat out.

Never wrap a burn, layer cling film.

Cool, running water and analgesia.

Nothing else! No creams/lotions/gels/essential oils etc

mrssilky · 18/06/2023 13:09

if not a huge burn....cold running water for 5-10mins, then allowing to dry naturally....ditto lavender oil....or sudocrem. if large burn, a&e

Workyticket · 18/06/2023 13:09

Don't want to go to A&E

I need to crack on - get to Tesco etc. I'll try the cling film. It's ridiculously painful still!

Please don't put cling film on it!

redferrari · 18/06/2023 13:11

Aloe Vera gel is really soothing. I always keep it in fridge so it nice and cool.

Workyticket · 18/06/2023 13:15

I don't have any aloe - will Google to see if I can get some!

Acriflex burn cream and boots emergency burn gel are both good.

Chasingadvice · 18/06/2023 13:21

Boots emergency burn cream is amazing. It instantly takes the pain away. Please try it. Lasts forever too.

If Tesco has a pharmacy, ask the pharmacist to take a look at it, hope it stops hurting soon.

Workyticket · 18/06/2023 13:25

Ooh - I have an aloe vera plant from IKEA- can I use that???

OP posts:
NeverDropYourMooncup · 18/06/2023 13:29

Fuck's sake.

Don't put any shit over it, not sudocreme, aloe vera, lavender oil or anything else. The cling film placed over it but not wrapped may reduce the pain long enough to get yourself to A&E where they can assess and treat it.

It's over a joint and a highly mobile part of your body. Get it treated.

nocoolnamesleft · 18/06/2023 13:32

Soaking in water is pretty useless. It's meant to be running water.

This. Absolutely basic first aid.

This. Definitely not sudocreme or lavender oil. Cold running water only.

Lurkingandlearning · 18/06/2023 15:03

Agree - lavender oil. It also minimises scarring

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 18/06/2023 15:55

Basic first aid is NOTHING on a burn except cool running water.

Wolfiefan · 18/06/2023 15:57

Agree with above. You may not want to go to A and E but it sounds quite big and on a hand. Running cold water then get medical attention.

A27009D56 · 18/06/2023 16:05

Get someone to take you to A and E. If you haven’t already take a couple of paracetamol for the pain and get a big container fill it with ice and keep your hand in it while you’re making your way to A and E.

Don’t go to Tesco ….. get this sorted first
