Olive oil burn- how can I sooth it?

Frying eggs for breakfast 2 hours ago

Massive splash right across the base of my thumb and the fleshy part of my palm

I've been soaking it since and had it wrapped in a wet tea towel but every time I take it out of the water it burns more

It feels like it's cooking from the inside

Its not blistered, just red.

I'm really grateful to you all. I'm running it under cold water every chance I get

It's still burning - it looks like nothing more than a graze weirdly. Definitely belies how sore it is

It is calming down though.

I'm just so glad it wasn't ds - he was helping to make breakfast for his dad 🙈

I'm not going to A&E. I have so much to do (I'm a mam and a teacher so all the usual Sunday stuff) and, although it's painful I don't think there's much they can do and it doesn't warrant a 7 hour wait.

I'll make an appointment if it begins to look in any way infected as I'm susceptible to cellulitis.

Thanks again - it'll be a LONG time before I fry eggs again!

If you don't want to go to A&E could you at least phone 111 and get an appointment at out of hours GP? I would want to get it cleaned and dressed properly and they might want to prescribe some antibiotics if you're susceptible to cellulitis.

I mean, there's a chance of thickening and scarring permanently affecting the function of your hand or requiring surgery, but if your DH not having to look after his kid on Fathers' Day whilst you get it checked out is that much of a problem, I suppose you might be lucky, there might not be areas of deeper scalding that you cannot feel and it might be OK.

Agree - lavender oil. It also minimises scarring

Sorry? I didn't say anything about dh! He's currently out on a bike ride with ds while I plan for 3 absent colleagues' classes tomorrow

Not that I should have to explain myself to you!

@NeverDropYourMooncup ffs don't be so dramatic 😂

I'm guessing that the people who suggested lavender oil after running the scald under a cool tap, tried it on minor scalds themselves and it worked. But obviously more serious scalds need medical attention.

If there is a minor injuries unit, go for that, they’re quicker than A&E and designed for a case like yours.
