The courage of the Nottingham victims' families

Pointless post, perhaps, and I don't want to come off as a grief vulture. But I have been so moved by their speeches urging people to not succumb to hatred. I would have been lying prostrate, and cursing everything under the sun. Just immense courage under fire.

They've been amazing, under the circumstances, and in return I hope they feel the love from the Nottingham uni/students and the Nottingham people. Tragic, truly tragic for all involved

Hype? Sorry, no. A thread like that was deleted yesterday. I don't want this to go that way.

Hype ?!! Are you really serious? ! What an absolutely disgusting comment.
You obviously have zero compassion for the victims and their families plus no knowledge about Nottingham.

I suppose general gang related crime doesn't get the same press attention as two middle class students being killed. I'm not trying to diminish what's happened. It's absolutely awful. 1

IncompleteSenten · 16/06/2023 06:58

Hype?

People were murdered.
That should always matter. What's wrong with you?

Whatt · 16/06/2023 07:00

I get what your saying. No one has spoke about the women that got stabbed on the same day in London.

Also I feel like they were begging for the guy to be Muslim, whereas this is the second attack in a few weeks by a Christian.

CatfoodOzymandias · 16/06/2023 07:02

Yeah, ok, I shouldn't have started this thread. Not here for the whataboutery and the discussion of the media. That can come later.

Wow people who join gangs, do drugs and carry knifes get killed who would have thought it.
Next you will be telling me I’m fat from eating all the cakes.

I’m sure the families of Barnaby and Grace would give up everything single penny they have and all their middle classeness if it meant they could have their children back again!

solishy · 16/06/2023 07:03

@Whatt I'm not saying they have any religion at all but I'd be sceptical about them actually being Christian. Saying you are Christian has been a way of proving you fit in here and therefore gain asylum, it also allows you access to all Christian aid and help as well as help with asylum processing through the church.
There have been multiple cases of people pretending to be Christian and turns out they are far from it simply to get through the asylum process.

I'm very sorry for what happened though.

No more than anywhere else! There's something really wrong with you if you can't see the difference between gangs and what happened here though

MsAnna · 16/06/2023 07:06

I agree OP, admirable strength in what must feel like a living nightmare. Many parents worry about such things with our children simply enjoying a night out, horrible that this has happened.

Saucery · 16/06/2023 07:08

It’s so sad to see people still indulging in whataboutery. Every violent death at the hands of another is a tragedy. Media coverage is a separate issue, so do please start a thread about that if you feel it’s necessary.

This thread is about the courage and dignity of the families involved in the Nottingham murders. They also highlighted that while hate towards the individual who took their loved ones is understandable, it should never lead to wider hatred of communities based on race, colour or religion.
It would be nice if people could respect the wishes of the families and not use their communications as fodder for some online Gotcha!

CatfoodOzymandias · 16/06/2023 07:08

The sibling speeches were particularly moving.

I think the "hype" is that it may be a terror attack. The person killed 3 people, attempted to murder at least 3 others at random. There aren't that many multiple murder of random people events in the UK. It is unusual.

BeatriceBatchelor · 16/06/2023 07:12

They come across as thoroughly decent human beings, don't they OP? The very worst has happened and such dark days are ahead yet they are caring for each other, thanking Nottingham, urging everyone to look after one another. So proud of the children they lost and the sons they need to help get through this tragedy.

Just shut up !! Did you not listen to what the families said yesterday!

Willmafrockfit · 16/06/2023 07:13

and how many people have drowned in Greece?

Willmafrockfit · 16/06/2023 07:14

unlikely to be a terror attack, at 4 in the morning

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 16/06/2023 07:14

What has that got to do with this thread?

Willmafrockfit · 16/06/2023 07:15

i am upset about the caretaker,

Whatt · 16/06/2023 07:18

The attacker from Nottingham grew up in Wales and attended church. I dont think be was faking it

Unfortunately people are stabbed all the time , it's a bit different to 3 people being murdered and 3 more being ran over by the same person

toomuchlaundry · 16/06/2023 07:19

The caretakers family were there too yesterday.

If this incident hadn’t happened at 4am I’m assuming more people might have been killed
